Summary
Oikawa had always been very proud of being well-centered and in control of his animalistic characteristics.Most of the time, these traits showed up subtly or in a harmless way, like his tail wagging when something exciting happened or his ears perking up at surrounding noises (which helped him gossip with Kuroo and Atsumu).
During his rut, he managed to control the urges that arose and usually went through the period without much trouble. However, instinct is something hard to control. It's inherent to the being and, like a tick bomb, can explode at any moment.
And, at that moment, he was a huge explosion of sweat, lust, and the smell of wet earth.
Oikawa is in rut and the only thing that can help him it's the scent of his best friend.

His voice, deep and silky, declared to the semi-empty room, surprise bleeding from his every pore.
Of the many things (assassins, government spies, powerful sorcerers), he imagined, this wasn’t one of them.
There was someone, for sure, but he didn’t seem very… intimidating.
Actually, it was quite the opposite.
From the looks of it, he was able to cast a quick (and quite basic) protection spell upon himself, so that he wouldn’t hurt himself too severely, but he was still looking… rough.
or: sorcerer oikawa tooru escaped the hellish chaos of the capital just to have some chaos stumbling in his life once more, twenty years later, in the form of a man falling through his roof.

Unfortunately he's not there to welcome him to the neighborhood, but to alert him of the state of his lawn.
