Work Header

shattered panes setting hearts aflame

Summary:

Sugawara Koushi just bought his first house and he's ready to revel in his newfound freedom. Not even 24 hours later, he's awoken abruptly by the sound of loud knocking at his door. He trudges to his door where he meets Officer Sawamura Daichi.

Unfortunately he's not there to welcome him to the neighborhood, but to alert him of the state of his lawn.

His vandalized lawn and graffiti'd door.

Feeling defeated, Suga thanks him for the cleaning recommendations and goes to work.

Only to come back to find that his yard and door has been completely cleaned up.

Notes:

Hello!! I've been writing this daisuga fic for a while now and I recently learned that the DaiSuga Big Bang is currently in their posting phase! This was not created for the bang, so there is no accompanying art, but I still hope you enjoy the fic nonetheless!!

HUGE THANK YOU to Alaina and Bee for beta reading this for me!!! You have both given me such wonderful feedback and it's made me so incredibly happy to read your reactions! :')

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“This is it!” Suga exclaims giddily as he runs up his front porch steps. He spins around, his arms wide as his friend laughs at him on facetime.

“Would you stop spinning and get inside? I want to see Sugawara Koushi’s new house.”

“Oh, Tooru.” He says, clicking his tongue as he turns to his front door to insert the key. “You’d be spinning around the porch with me too if you weren’t stuck at work.” He turns the key and opens the door, smiling brightly as he turns the camera around for Oikawa to see.

“No, I would not be and do you want to know why?” Suga hummed a response, but Oikawa was already continuing. “Because someone decided not to facetime me when they did the house tour because they wanted to surprise me.”

“That’s because you immediately shot down the other houses I looked at over minor details–”

“Koushi, that kitchen tile was ugly and you know it.” Suga laughed and rolled his eyes, pointing the camera at the coat and shoe rack by the front door before walking down the short hallway and turning into the living room.

“Okay, it’s not an ugly choice, so you don’t need to buy paint right away.” He says, humming thoughtfully.

“I’m so glad to have your approval for the color of my walls.” Suga says sarcastically before walking towards the kitchen.

“Oh my god! Show me the island counter now!” Oikawa was incredibly close to the phone as Suga showed him the granite countertops. He took a few screenshots for later use and turned to show him the kitchen sink.

“You have the best kitchen for entertaining guests, hello? And that sink! God, I feel so old geeking out over a damn sink. Show me the other rooms, Suga-chan!”

“Yes, sir!” He chuckled, moving to show him the rest of the new house. Suga listened to his “ooh”’s and “ahh”’s and his apprehensive noise upon seeing the bathroom sink’s faucet. The call ended with a promise to come over the next day to help Suga unpack.

Sitting down in his living room on his couch, Suga let out a content sigh. He had finally bought his first house. Sure, the rest of the house was relatively average in size, but the kitchen itself is what sold Suga. He imagined all of the dinner parties and wine nights that he could host. He could gather a group of friends around his kitchen table and play board and card games until late hours in the night.

Suga felt another rush of excitement coarse through him as he heard the moving truck pull up to the house. He stood up from his couch and ran outside to greet and help them carry in the remainder of his boxes. He was glad that the house already came partially furnished as he only had a few pieces of furniture from his last apartment. He watched the two movers easily lift his glass coffee table and he nodded to himself, knowing how Tooru would have loved to sit on the porch to watch these guys move everything into the house.

Once everything was carried in and set in their designated rooms, Suga shut and locked his door. He turned around and took in the sight of all of the boxes and bounced happily in his entryway.

Sugawara woke up the following morning to six loud knocks on his front door. He turned over and checked the time on his phone.

Six thirty-eight in the morning.

He knew it definitely wasn’t Tooru because he wasn’t supposed to be over until Suga got back from work to help him unpack.

He sighed and rolled out of bed, sliding on his white house slippers before dragging his feet to the front door.

Another six knocks. Whoever was on the other side sounded really insistent that they speak with Suga regardless of whether the sun just rose or not.

“I’m coming! Hang on!” He said, stepping into the hallway and opening the door to see a police officer on his porch. He had short hair with a bit of product in it to keep it neat, and big brown eyes that were warm and inviting. And the size of the guy’s arms? Suga thought that he could’ve gone up a shirt size but then it might have been too loose.

Suga’s eyes widened slightly as he smoothed out the wrinkles in his– One Direction t-shirt. He crossed his arms over the band members’ faces before meeting the officer’s gaze.

“How can I help you, officer?” He asked, tilting his head slightly as the officer gave him a soft smile.

“You seem to be new to the neighborhood, which makes what I’m about to tell you a bit more difficult.” He said, scratching the back of his neck as he steps to the side to reveal Suga’s yard.

His completely-covered-in-toilet-paper yard.

He stepped onto the porch and looked around and saw tubes lying below his vandalized tree.

“I’m afraid this isn’t the extent of the damage…” He said, nodding to the graffiti covered front door that Suga was just now noticing.

“Do you have any idea of who might’ve done this?”

“I just moved in yesterday. I-I don’t know anyone in this neighborhood yet.” He says, his voice cracking as his eyes grew misty. The cop gave him a sympathetic look and assessed the damage.

“I can give you the names of a few cleaners that I know will help you get this off. They’re a bit pricey, but they require a lot less elbow grease.” Suga gave him a small smile and nodded.

“That would be great. Unfortunately, I’ll have to wait until after work to get them, but I appreciate the suggestions, Officer… Sawamura.” He says, eyeing the name tag on the man’s (broad) chest that reads ‘D. Sawamura’.

“Oh it’s really no problem. I’ve dealt with a few cases of vandalism in the past so I was able to learn what works best. Do you feel safe enough to get to work or do you need someone to take you?” He asks, writing down the names of a few cleaners.

“No, I work at the preschool not far from here, so I should be fine.”

“Right. Well…”

“Sugawara Koushi. But everyone calls me Suga.”

“Well, Suga-san, I hope that you’re able to enjoy your day at work, despite what happened to your home. I promise that we’re gonna try to find the people behind this. I’m gonna search around the perimeters and ask around the neighborhood to see if anyone else saw or heard anything. If I find something, I’ll leave a note for you.” He says, offering him a warm smile before turning to leave.

Suga watched him leave his porch before he bolted inside to change into something presentable for work and to brush his hair and his teeth. He grabbed his messenger bag, threw everything he typically needed for work into it, and rushed to the front door to put on his shoes.

Anyone else watching this unfold would think that he was running late for work.

However– If his best friend, Oikawa Tooru, were watching it unfold, he’d know that Suga wanted to prove to Officer Sawamura that he could look well put together and attractive. Truth be told, after meeting someone in an old, oversized, and faded boy-band tee that has some (at least six) holes in it, Suga was absolutely mortified and needed to prove just how pretty he could be with a little bit of effort.

‘Oh, you’re always pretty, Suga-chan. You’re that effortless kind of pretty and I loathe you for it.’ He practically hears Oikawa say in his mind as he skips out the front door.

He spots Officer Sawamura a few houses down and he starts walking in that direction. It was in the direction of his school anyways, so it’s not like he’s going out of his way or anything.

“Have a good day, Officer Sawamura!” He called, waving as he looked up at him. He returns the wave and nods before continuing his search for any evidence left in neighboring yards.

“Suga-san? How long have you been sitting out here?” Suga looked up and saw his coworker, Tanaka Kiyoko.

“I don’t want to talk about it.” He groaned, running his fingers through his hair.

“Yes you do, you love gossiping.”

“Not about how ridiculous I am, I don’t, Kiyoko-chan.”

“Who did you embarrass yourself in front of, this time?” Suga turned his head to rest his cheek on his palm.

“A cop . Oh my god, Kiyoko-chan, it was so embarrassing. I answered the door in my old One Direction shirt.”

“It couldn’t have been that bad.” She said, sitting on the stool next to his desk.

“Louie had a barbecue stain on his face that made him look like he was mauled by a bear.”

“Suga-san–” She let out a soft chuckle before she continued. “I don’t think an officer is going to worry about which band member has a stain on his face and I especially don’t think that an officer is going to care about what someone looks like at seven in the morning.”

“It was six-thirty.”

“That’s not the point and you know it. Why did you have a run in with a police officer anyway?” She asked, taking a sip of her coffee.

“Oh, someone decided to TP my yard and spray paint graffiti on my front door.” He said, causing his co-worker to cough slightly.

“Oh my goodness. Suga-san, that’s like a serious issue and you chose to tell me about how a police officer saw you in your pj’s?”

“I was mortified, Kiyoko-chan. What kind of first impression was that? I got ready so fast just so he could see that I was well put together.” Kiyoko chuckled and shook her head before standing up.

“You can be so funny sometimes, Suga-san. It’s refreshing compared to the usual seriousness of the teachers.” She stepped towards the door before turning on the rest of his classroom lights.

“I don’t see how anyone can work around a bunch of five year olds all day and still be serious. Just last week, I had to explain to a student why she couldn’t eat an eraser.” She laughed softly before taking on a serious expression.

“Suga-san, you know you can call the station and have someone sit or patrol the area a little extra if anything happens or if you feel uncomfortable, right?” She watched him stand up and grab a bin of crayons before taking it to a table in the middle of the room.

“I’ll be sure to keep that in mind. Thank you for letting me know.”

Once Suga made sure all of his students were picked up by their guardians, he made his way back home. He needed to grab his broom and attempt to get all of the toilet paper out of his tree because he was the genius that decided he didn’t need to buy a ladder for his new house.

He turned onto his corner, his eyes immediately widening as he noticed that his entire yard was cleaned up. He spotted a few stray pieces of tissue towards the upper half of the tree, but everything else was gone. He turned towards his front door and found that any trace of graffiti had been scrubbed away just hours before.

“How–” He stepped forward to touch the door and he heard a crinkling sound under his foot. He looked down and saw an envelope with ‘ Sugawara Koushi ’ written on it resting on the welcome mat. He picked it up before quickly unlocking his door and making his way inside. As he kicked off his shoes and stepped into his house slippers, he opened the letter and read it on his way to the kitchen.

‘Suga-san,

I wasn’t able to find anything from neighboring houses and when I asked around the neighborhood, they didn’t seem to know anyone had moved in. We’ll be sending some guys to patrol this section a bit more this week.

I might have taken the liberty to clean up for you, I hope you don’t mind. I had some spray left over from the last time someone’s car was vandalized. I figured it was the least I could do to welcome you to the neighborhood. I’m sorry that you didn’t receive a kind welcome before.

If anything else happens and you need assistance, please feel free to call xxx-xxx-xxxx

Sawamura Daichi (but people call me Daichi)’

Suga smiled down at the letter and breathed a sigh of relief. Daichi had just lifted a huge weight off of his shoulders and he felt like he could float.

“Ding dong! Kou-chan, open the door! My arms are full!” He was pulled out of his thoughts by his best friend outside. He folded the note and shoved it into his pocket before running to get the door for Oikawa.

“I brought Italian! Also, did it rain last night? There’s water all over your porch.” He said, stepping in with bags of takeout.

“It did not. My door needed to be washed and a kind police officer came down and did it…” Suga said, grabbing a bag and taking it into the kitchen.

“Why did your door need to be washed? It looked fine yesterday on facetime.” He asked, setting the other two bags down and raising an eyebrow.

“Well it sorta kinda maybe got a little bit vandalized–” Oikawa’s eyes widened as he leaned in as if it would make him hear clearer.“—and the police officer woke me up to alert me of it before I went to work. He took it upon himself to scrub the graffiti off of my door for me while I was there.”

Oikawa blinked at him several times before narrowing his eyes at his friend.

“Was he hot?”

“Oh my god , Tooru.” Suga groaned, sitting at the table and opening one of the takeout boxes.

“What?! These are important questions! A police officer scrubbed down your door because you had to work and you don’t have anything to say about it other than the fact that he was ‘ kind ’?”

“I mean, sure, he’s conventionally attractive–” Oikawa gave him an unimpressed look that made Suga avert his gaze.

“He doesn’t really fit the type of guys I usually get with–”

“You mean tall, lanky assholes that will flirt with anything with a pretty face and a fat ass?”

“Okay, so maybe I don’t have the best track record with boyfriends–”

“Or hookups.”

But I don’t even know the guy and he was just doing his job.”

“And going out of his way to scrub graffiti off of your door.”

“It was just a kind thing to do! He had the extra cleaning supplies and I had to work. I’m new to the neighborhood, so I can understand how he could have done it to welcome me. Plus, it was six-thirty in the morning and I looked absolutely disheveled.”

“So, he saw your bedhead and he wanted to see it again–”

“No! I literally opened the door in my One Direction shirt. There’s no way he thought anything like that.” He winced.

“The one with ‘Future Mr. Horan’ on it or the one with them on the stairs from the video diaries with the Jimmy quote?” Oikawa asked, sitting across from him and taking the box from Suga before pushing a different one in his direction.

“The one with a barbecue sauce stain on Louis’s face.” Oikawa gasped and clamped his hand over his mouth.

“That’s the worst one.”

“Exactly! It was so embarrassing, I literally ran to get changed, so I could–” Suga closed his mouth as he saw the smirk form on Oikawa’s face.

“So you could what, Kou-chan?”

“Get to work, so I wouldn’t have to stand there for another minute.” He answered. Tooru rolled his eyes, obviously not believing his reasoning, but deciding to drop it in favor of eating his carbonara.

It had been two weeks since Suga moved into his new home and there haven't been any more incidents of vandalism. Unfortunately for him, there’s also not been any updates on figuring out who was behind the defacing of his front lawn and door.

He sat in his living room with Oikawa, listening to him rant about his latest hookup and how he finally got his head out of his ass to ask his best friend out.

“And like, I’m happy for him, but now I have to restart the process of finding another guy–”

“That won’t be hard for you at all. You literally have guys all over you when we go out.” Oikawa sighs and leans his head against the couch.

“You don’t get it, Kou-chan. I need to find a guy that meets my standards. Do you know how hard that is?”

“Your standards are seriously high, but if you just want a casual hookup, you could always lower them–”

Absolutely not. I will not allow myself to sleep with just anyone. If anyone should be adjusting their standards, it’s you. You attract way too many fuckboys and I have to use my top voice to steer them away from you.” Oikawa says, earning a cackle from Suga.

“That’s what you call that? I assumed you had some sort of–” A loud crash sounded in the kitchen, causing both men to nearly jump out of their skin.

“What the fuck was that?!” Oikawa yelled, standing up abruptly to turn the corner. “Holy shit– Koushi, get in here.” Suga quickly got to his feet and moved to where Oikawa was standing to see that the window in front of his kitchen sink was shattered and, upon closer inspection, there was a brick in the sink.

“What– Why?! ” He slaps his cheeks in defeat before grabbing his phone and searching for the number Daichi had left him.

“Are you calling the cops?”

“Yeah. Officer Sawamura left a number just in case anything happened.” He said, letting out an annoyed sigh before pressing the phone to his ear. Why couldn’t the first incident just be enough? Why did someone have to go as far as breaking a window?

<<Hello?>> Suga’s posture straightened as he heard the gruff voice on the other side of the phone. Oikawa gave him a weird look as he grabbed the broom and dustpan from the closet.

“O-Officer Sawamura! I’m so sorry for calling this late, it’s Suga. You left this number on the note in case anything happened–”

<<No, no– it’s okay! Did something happen? What’s going on?>> Suga could hear the sleep leaving his voice as he realized that he was calling for help. He ignored the way Oikawa’s jaw dropped and continued talking.

“Omg, he gave you his personal phone number–”

“A friend and I were talking in my living room and there was a crash. We both got up to check and I saw that my kitchen window was shattered and there’s a brick in the sink.” He said, his voice steady despite how scared he truly felt.

<<Oh my god– I’ll be right over. Are you okay? Do you need me to stay on the line? I just gotta call up some guys to make sure we can keep an eye out for any suspicious behavior.>>

“No, I have a friend here with me. I should be fine until you show up.” He answers, turning away from Oikawa. He really couldn’t be watching his friend giving him suggestive looks while he was talking.

<<Okay. I’ll be there in ten.>>

Suga ended the call and braced himself for the teasing he was about to endure.

“So… His personal phone number, huh?”

Daichi arrived ten minutes later dressed in blue jeans and a black t-shirt that hugged his arms, showing off the obvious hard work he puts in at the gym. Suga let him into the house and led him to the kitchen to show him the damage, ignoring the way Oikawa gawked at Daichi.

“I’m pretty sure we got most of the glass with the broom, but I’ll need to pick up a vacuum tomorrow to get in the crevices.” Suga said, gesturing to where the glass had been previously scattered on the floor.

“Did you hear anything before the crash happened? Maybe voices outside?” He asked, carefully grabbing the brick out of the sink and turning it over in his hands.

“I didn’t hear anything. We were just talking and then the window shattered. Tooru processed what happened before I could even get off of the couch, I–”

“Kou-chan, take a deep breath.” Oikawa said quietly, placing a hand on his shoulder.

“Well, there’s no message written on the brick or anything so there’s a possibility that there’s no motive other than rebellious teens acting out again.” He said, placing the brick on the counter. He looked at the window and noticed several large shards of glass still stuck in the frame.

“We should get this window covered… Give me a moment, I need to step outside really quick.”

“Of course.” Daichi gave him a soft smile and nodded towards Oikawa before stepping out of the kitchen and heading towards the front door. Once they heard the door open and close, Oikawa turned to Suga.

‘Conventionally attractive’ my ass! Are you blind? That man’s arms were two seconds away from ripping his sleeves and his chest looks so–”

“Tooru, keep it down! The window’s broken and he has other people walking around to check for evidence.” Suga whispered, his hand clasped over the taller man’s mouth. When he removed it, Oikawa opened his mouth again.

“I don’t know if you bothered to look, but his ass looks really good in those jeans and I don’t see how you’re not attracted to that.” He said in a hushed tone.

“I didn’t look because I was too busy worrying about showing him the brick in my sink.” He whispered back, watching the way Oikawa’s eyes rolled as dramatically as he could muster. Before Oikawa could respond, the front door opened and closed again.

“Sit down and let me handle this.” Suga whispered, ignoring the annoyed expression his friend gave him before listening and taking a seat at the table.

“Okay, so a few of my guys are still looking around the yard for clues, but I had my colleague bring a few boards from the station so we could get that window covered until you can get a replacement.” He said, pointing to where another guy was brushing extra glass away from the window sill from the outside.

“Oh, you didn’t have–”

“It’s a part of my job.” He said kindly, offering a warm smile. “I wanted to make sure that it was covered before I left. Especially with how easy it would be for someone to get in.”

“Thank you. Really, it’s– my old neighborhood wasn’t the greatest, but nothing like this ever happened to me and I don’t know what I’d do without your help.” Suga lifted himself to sit on the island counter before putting his face in his hands. He felt defeated and humiliated by everything that’s happened and he truly did appreciate the officer’s kindness.

“I’m just glad I was here to help you then.” Suga looked up and saw the way Daichi smiled before he turned towards the window. “Make sure you only drill into the wooden window frame. We need to make sure that it won’t be easy for anyone to remove.”

The front door opened, gathering their attention and another man in uniform walked in. He had spiky hair and dark eyes that complimented his tanned skin. Suga met his serious gaze and tilted his head before glancing at Oikawa, who was already eyeing the man up and down appreciatively.

“There wasn’t anyone lingering around, but we did find a piece of fabric that feels like it might have come from a jacket.” He said, holding up a piece of black cloth.

“It’s not really much to go off of, but we’ll still bring it in for evidence just in case. Good job, Officer Iwaizumi.” Daichi spoke just before the sound of a drill echoed through the kitchen. Suga winced as he saw a wooden board covering the spot where his window once was.

“Perhaps we should move to the living room?” Oikawa spoke up, catching the attention of the new officer, who was just realizing that he was there.

“Suga-san, would that make you more comfortable?” He barely finished the question before Suga was nodding and sliding off the counter and making his way into the other room.

He sat on the couch as Oikawa took a seat on the chair. The two officers stood in front of them and waited for them to make themselves comfortable before speaking up.

“I’ve talked to the Captain already and he says that they don’t have enough officers on duty to put some extra patrol in this section.” Iwaizumi says to Daichi, causing him to purse his lips together before turning to Suga.

“Are you going to be okay? Are you able to stay with your friend tonight?” Suga feels his breath hitch when he realizes how late it’s already gotten.

“Unfortunately not. I live a bit far and Suga-chan has to work in the morning, so that wouldn't work out very well.” He says, earning the gaze of the two officers.

“I’m sorry, I don’t believe that I’ve asked your name. Please forgive me.” Daichi says, extending a hand towards Oikawa.

“Oikawa Tooru, Suga-chan’s best friend. Don’t apologize, you’ve obviously been occupied.” He says, shaking the man’s hand with a grin Suga preferred not to read into. Daichi lets out a lighthearted laugh before taking a step back into his original spot and turning his attention back onto Suga.

“Suga-san, are you going to be okay? Do you feel comfortable staying here alone–”

“Not really.” He blurts out, hands gripping the soft fabric of his sweatpants. “I don’t have anyone nearby to call or anything…” Daichi’s eyes softened and he patted the pockets of his pants before feeling his back pockets. He brings out his police badge and clips it to his belt.

“I’ll sit on your porch tonight so that you can get some rest. If I see anything, I’ll call it in.”

“Wait– You don’t have to–”

“Are you always gonna try to keep me from doing my job?” He asks, teasing clear in his voice as a smile plays on his lips.

“I– Weren’t you sleeping though? I’d hate for you to stay up longer on my behalf.”

“I’ll admit that I was sleeping, but my alarm was about to go off anyway, so don’t you worry about that.” He said, his soft smile never fading.

“Only if you’re sure…” He said before nodding.

“Okay, well I gotta get going. It’s really late and I need to get to the train station before the last train.” Oikawa said, standing and moving to hug Suga.

“If anything happens, let me know.” He said, before turning to the other officer. Suga knew the underlying meaning in his words, but he chose not to press the issue in front of Daichi.

“Officer Iwaizumi, would you mind walking me to the station?” He asked, his tone innocent as could be and Suga had to physically hold back a groan at the way his friend shifted back and forth on his toes.

“I– My car’s up front, so how about a ride instead? I’m sure you’re also pretty shaken up by what happened, so it’s the least I could do.”

“As long as I get to sit shotgun, I don’t care.” He said, turning on his heel to walk towards the door. Iwaizumi tilted his head towards Daichi who shrugged before following the man outside.

“Ooh! Iwa-chan, can you turn on the lights?”

“Absolutely not and please do not call me that.” The front door shut, leaving Daichi and Suga in silence.

“I’m gonna let the other guys know that I’ll be surveilling here for the night. Are you okay? Do you need to talk about anything before I go outside?” He asks, leaning slightly against the armrest of the couch.

“You sure ask that question a lot.” Suga laughs, grabbing his phone to see a text from Oikawa.

“Well, I wouldn’t have to ask so much if you’d stop avoiding the question.” Daichi says, slight amusement in his voice. Suga puts his phone down and looks at his hands in his lap.

“I’ll be okay. I just– I’m a bit scared.” He stared at his hands, refusing to meet Daichi’s gaze. He heard a slight shuffling until he saw shoes in front of him. He looked up to notice that Daichi was eye-level with him and he couldn’t help but to swallow hard.

“It’s okay to be scared, Suga-san. You’ve been through a lot. The stresses of moving, the first incident of vandalism, and now this? Anyone would be scared and that’s not something that you need to be ashamed of.” The steadiness of his voice calmed Suga. He felt his shoulders relax and he nodded.

“You’re right, Officer Sawamura.”

“I was hoping that you would’ve read that last part of my note.” He said, averting his gaze and chuckling.

“Your no– Oh! I didn’t know you meant that I could call you–” Suga flustered and Daichi laughed a bit louder as he stood up.

“I’m just teasing, Suga-san. You can call me whatever you feel comfortable with– as long as it’s not offensive, of course.”

“Daichi’s fine! It’s easier to say than ‘Officer Sawamura’.” Suga laughed nervously, standing and brushing off his legs before heading to the kitchen. “You can go talk to your colleagues, I’ll be okay.” He said, grabbing his kettle and turning to the sink. Daichi nodded and turned to step outside.

Suga heard Daichi sit down on one of the porch chairs before the kettle whistled. He hurriedly grabbed it, pouring the water into two mugs before setting it aside and grabbing a box of tea. He should have asked how Daichi liked his tea, but he had a feeling that the officer would have declined his offer. So he wrapped a blanket around his shoulders and grabbed both of the mugs before stepping onto the porch.

“Suga-san– You didn’t have to–”

“It’s my job as a host to make sure that you’re taken care of.” He quipped, smirking at the way Daichi’s face turned from surprised to amused.

“I suppose you caught me there.” He replies, taking the mug Suga offered him before watching the man sit down in the chair next to him.

“I thought you needed to go to bed soon?” He asked, blowing softly on the tea before testing the temperature.

“I do. I typically have a hard time falling asleep after something big happens. I just can’t get my heartrate to calm down.” He admits, pulling the blanket tighter around his shoulders.

“I get that. Well, you’re free to sit wherever you please. It is your house after all.” He smiles. Suga’s ears tinged pink as he smiled down at his mug.

There’s a comfortable silence between the two of them as they drank their tea. Suga glanced over at Daichi and noticed that his hair wasn’t styled the way it had been the first time they met. He flushed at the thought of him skipping that step in his routine before rushing over.

It’s his job. He thought to himself, shaking any thoughts out of his head. Why did he feel so warm at the thought? He knew Daichi wasn’t the typical guy he’d go for, so why was he entertaining the thoughts Oikawa put in his head?

The guys Suga goes for are usually tall, lean, and as Oikawa would say, assholes. Daichi wasn’t particularly tall, maybe a few centimeters taller than Suga, but he definitely wasn’t towering over him the way his partners usually did. He was rather buff, which wasn’t particularly a bad thing, Suga’s just only been with guys who were more on the lanky side and he wasn’t sure how to feel about a guy that could probably lift him with ease–

What was he thinking? He shook his head slightly as if the motion would eject the thoughts from his brain.

“If you’re tired, you can go in, Suga-san. You don’t need to fight sleep on my behalf. I’m a big boy, I can handle a night on the porch.” Daichi speaks, a hint of amusement in his tone as he watches Suga.

“I wasn’t– Sorry, I was just thinking and I guess I got a little overwhelmed.”

“Don’t apologize for feeling your emotions. I don’t want to overstep, but if there’s anything you want to talk about, I’m all ears.” He said, amusement gone, but his tone was still lighthearted and warm.

That’s another thing on the list that Daichi wasn’t. He wasn’t an asshole. He was kind and caring. He had been nothing but helpful since day one and Suga couldn’t help but smile softly at him.

“I appreciate that, Daichi. It’s nothing serious or anything… just keep thinking about some things people have said.”

“Well, if there’s anything vaguely threatening–”

“Oh no, nothing like that!” Suga laughed before meeting Daichi’s amused expression. “I just have a lot to think about.”

“Try not to overthink too much. It can definitely make you go a little crazy. Trust me, I’ve learned from experience.”

“I’ll try to keep that in mind.” Suga smiles softly and takes one last drink from his mug, finishing the tea.

“Looks like that’s your cue to get some rest. Only if you’re feeling better now, of course.”

“I suppose you’re right. Thank you for staying. I really appreciate it.” Daichi nods at him before noticing the mug in his hands. He quickly downs the last bit before handing it to Suga.

“I’d hate for it to sit out here with me all night.” He laughs, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly. “Thanks again– for the tea, I mean.”

“Of course. Goodnight, Daichi.”

“Goodnight, Suga-san.”

Suga steps inside and locks the door (after Daichi assures him that it’s okay) and takes the mugs to his kitchen sink. He puts the throw blanket back on the couch and walks to his bedroom, placing his phone on the charger and sliding under the covers. His phone vibrates and Suga sees that it’s another text from Oikawa.

Tooru: This guy is so hot. He’s actually showing me the buttons in his car!!

Tooru: He drove me home because I missed my train and he felt bad. I *have* to blow him now.

Suga: Tooru, no.

Tooru: Don’t tell me how to live my life. Also– shouldn’t you be in bed? ( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)

Suga: Goodnight, Tooru.

Tooru: Goodnight, Kou-chan! (*^‿^*)

“Tooru, do you know how to install a window?”

<<Are you really asking me that right now? Do I look like I know how to install a window?>> Suga sighed and leaned against his counter, staring at the large window sitting on his floor.

“It was worth a shot. The window showed up today and I guess the people that dropped it off are not allowed to do any installation work and that’s another service that I have to pay for.” He grabs an apple from the fruit bowl and takes a bite.

<<How long do you think it’ll be before you can get that set up?>>

“I don’t know… Probably three weeks to have enough saved back and then however long until the appointment. Looks like I’ll be stuck staring at a wooden board while I do dishes for another month or two. Do you think I could paint a pretty landscape on it?” Suga laughed as he thought about painting some cheesy landscape with a sun in the corner and a rainbow in the center.

<<Oh goodness, Suga-chan. By the time we’re actually able to have this house-warming party, the novelty will be gone.>>

“I don’t think it will! Plus, who said anything about having a house-warming party?”

<<Oh, Suga-chan. You can’t move into a house and not invite a bunch of people over to celebrate! You’re officially a homeowner!>>

“I’ve been a homeowner for a month now–”

<<Well, you decided to slack on unpacking and then the window was broken so we couldn’t have it when the house wasn’t in tiptop shape!>>

“I feel like this is your excuse to have a party and not get a noise complaint from your downstairs neighbor.”

<<It is not! I sincerely want you to be surrounded by friends that are happy for you! And I’m hoping that you get a few fancy wines out of it– >>

“There it is! I can’t say I discourage it completely because I could use some good wine after everything…”

<<See! I knew you’d see my point sooner or later.>> Suga could hear the smugness of his tone and he rolled his eyes.

<<Hey, I’m walking into work now, I’ll talk to you later! Love you, bye!>>

“Love you too, Tooru.” He laughed, ending the call and throwing the core of his apple away.

Oikawa walked into his office’s break room and sat at the table. He had a bit of time before he had to clock in, but he was feeling particularly… inspired.

Oikawa: Heyyy Iwa-chan! (✿ ♡‿♡)

Iwa-chan: Oikawa-san, that’s not my name.

Iwa-chan: But what’s up?

Oikawa: Do you know how to install windows?

Iwa-chan: Like actual windows or computer windows?

Oikawa: You’re so funny! Actual windows! Remember my friend, Suga? His window showed up today, but the delivery people said they couldn’t install it! (˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥⋆)

Iwa-chan: I mean, I’ve helped my parents and some friends in the past, but I don’t think that it’s appropriate given that I only know you from an investigation.

Oikawa: Oh, Iwa-chan. You should have thought about that before you drove me all the way home, silly! We’re friends now!

Iwa-chan: I couldn’t just drop you off at the station that late, Oikawa-san.

Oikawa: Oh, you mean the station covered with security cameras and security guards?

Oikawa watched Iwaizumi type and stop several times before his coworker walked into the room. She took a seat across from him as his phone buzzed in his hands.

Iwa-chan: When are you free?

Oikawa: This Saturday! Bring Sawamura-san!

Iwa-chan: You’re lucky that we’re both free that day.

Oikawa: The universe is on my side, Iwa-chan 。^‿^。

“Tooru, why are you acting weird?” Suga asked, narrowing his eyes at his friend. He had come over today to update Suga on some work gossip over lunch and though Suga loved hearing about how the physical therapist was no longer speaking to the head of nursing, he couldn’t ignore the fact that Oikawa was constantly looking at his phone.

“Nothing gets by you, Kou-chan! You’re so smart–”

“Okay, what did you do?” Suga sat back in his chair, folding his arms over his chest with a small grin playing on his lips. Before Oikawa could respond, there was a knock at the door.

“I might have invited some people over to help you install that window! That must be them!” Suga’s smile faded slightly as he stood up from his chair.

“I appreciate the thought, but you know you didn’t have to, right?” He asked, walking towards the front door with Oikawa following closely behind.

“I know.” He said smugly as Suga opened the door. His eyes widened as he saw Daichi and Iwaizumi standing in front of them, dressed in casual clothes. Iwaizumi had a toolbox in hand and wore a tool belt around his hips.

“You guys got here early! Let’s show you the window. Suga-chan, you need to let them in, silly.” Oikawa pat Suga on the back inconspicuously before walking towards the kitchen. Suga stepped aside and allowed Iwaizumi to follow him. Daichi took a step inside and greeted him with a smile and a nod.

“You know… If you needed help, you could’ve just texted me. I’m sure I could’ve gotten the job done for you.” He said, his smile never leaving his face as Suga shut the front door.

“Well, you see… I actually didn’t know that he reached out to Iwaizumi-san. I was just gonna hire someone to do it, but that would’ve taken longer and Tooru’s kinda set on me having a house-warming party.” He said, his neck growing hot at their close proximity.

“I see. He’s definitely… interesting to say the least.” Daichi chuckled.

“He’s a menace and he can’t be trusted.” Suga said, watching the crinkles by Daichi’s eyes as he let out a full-bodied laugh. It was deep and rich and Suga felt his heart skipping a beat at the sound of it.

“Kou-chan! We don’t have all day!” Oikawa called from the kitchen, catching their attention. Suga turned quickly and made his way to the kitchen where he saw Iwaizumi unboxing the window carefully on the island counter.

Once the window was unboxed, Iwaizumi went outside (with Oikawa trailing behind him) to unscrew the board from the wooden frame.

“Seems like you got a pretty good deal on this window.” Daichi said, eyeing the price tag on the box.

“Oh! Yeah! I spent like all day looking at windows within my price range and I didn’t see any that I liked until like ten o’clock at night! I immediately ordered it because there were only three left and I didn’t want to risk it being sold out if I waited any longer.” Suga said, laughing as he spoke. Daichi smiled and saw the board being lifted away from the window. Oikawa stood there with a big grin on his face as Iwaizumi set the board to the side.

“Daichi, can you toss me the flashing tape?” Daichi turned to the toolbox and tossed a roll of thick black tape through the window for Iwaizumi.

“What’s that for?” Suga asked, tilting his head.

“It’s to help waterproof the window. After the window is installed, you tape up the sides and then the top to keep the rain from seeping in.” He said, nodding to where Iwaizumi was cutting the tape and applying it to the bottom of the wooden frame.

“Oh… That makes sense.” He said thoughtfully, earning a small chuckle from Daichi.

“Okay, now I just need to– Daichi, can you just hand me my toolbox? I should’ve brought it out with me instead of just my drill.” Daichi nodded and closed the toolbox before passing it through the window. Suga watched the way his arms stretched the sleeves of his t-shirt as he lifted the heavy box and felt the way his cheeks flushed before looking away. Unfortunately, he met Oikawa’s smirking face instead and flushed deeper.

“I’m gonna run to the restroom.” Suga said, turning and quickly leaving before he could hear a response. He shut the door to his bathroom, locking it behind him, and leaned over the sink. He stared at his reddened reflection in the mirror and felt his ears burning.

“Get a hold of yourself.” He whispered before turning on the faucet to splash some water onto his face. He felt himself relax slightly as the water cooled his skin. He could practically hear Oikawa’s taunting now and he had to physically hold back a frustrated groan.

When he emerged from the bathroom, Daichi was on the outside of the house, holding the window in place while Iwaizumi applied flashing tape to the sides.

“Thinking any unholy thoughts yet?” Suga jumped as he turned to see Oikawa sitting at his kitchen table sipping on a glass of water.

“Wha– No. The only thoughts in my head are thoughts that you put there.” He said, pointing an accusatory finger at the brunette.

“Whatever do you mean, Kou-chan?” He smiled innocently and Suga rolled his eyes, leaning against the counter.

“You know exactly what you’re doing.” Oikawa’s smirk grew as his eyes darted towards the window.

“Oh look, they’re putting the flashy tape to the top now.”

“It’s called flashing tape and–” Suga’s words died on his tongue as he turned to see the two men stretching their arms towards the top of the window to apply the tape. His eyes trailed down to Daichi’s broad chest before dropping to where the hem of his shirt was lifted, exposing just a peak of the dark brown happy trail on his lower belly.

“You were saying?” Oikawa asked, his smirk evident in his tone as Suga swallowed and willed himself to turn around.

“I’m gonna grab everyone a bottle of water.” He spoke, walking towards the fridge, hearing his friend laugh behind him.

“Way to admit that you’re thirsty, Suga-chan.” He teased, watching Suga freeze before he continued with his task.

“Tooru, you are going to be the death of me.”

“Only if you don’t die from suffocation by thighs.” He cackled, catching a bottle of water that was thrown to– at him.

“You’re relentless. Why are you so insistent on–”

“Because you deserve to be happy. I can see how you act around him and I can see how nice he is to you. I also didn’t see a wedding band on his finger so he’s definitely not married.” Suga couldn’t help the smile from forming on his face as he glances toward the now installed window. He watches Daichi give Iwaizumi a high five before catching his gaze. Daichi smiled at him and gave him two thumbs up before they turned to make their way to the front door.

“He’s nice, yes. But who’s to say that he’s not usually that kind? What if he’s always this kind to people?”

“I suppose you’ll just have to test the waters and see.” Oikawa said before the front door opened and the two men walked in. Daichi was laughing at something Iwaizumi said and Suga recognised it as the full-bodied laugh he heard before and his heart swelled.

“Alright! You’re all good to go! Now you can have that house-warming party. Just don’t be too loud. I’d hate to be invited through a noise complaint.” Daichi teases, causing Suga to stammer slightly in response.

“We’ll keep it down. I’m not even sure when I’ll have it, so you might not have to worry about receiving a noise complaint anyway.” He said, feeling the familiar warmth spread through his neck once again.

“Well, in that case, I hope that I can receive an invitation from the host?” He asked, leaning his elbow against the counter as he watched Suga’s eyes widen slightly before he opened his mouth to speak.

“Of course you’re invited! Both of you– You’ve been so helpful and–”

“No plus ones though. Don’t wanna overcrowd the place.” Oikawa cut in, eyeing the way Daichi’s lips curled up into a smile.

“Good thing I wasn’t planning on bringing anyone anyway.”

Suga felt like he could spontaneously combust. Was Daichi flirting with him? Or was he just being kind enough not to bring a stranger into Suga’s home? Suga felt the water bottle in his hands crinkle slightly and he remembered his task.

“Water?” He asked, holding the bottle in front of Daichi. He could hear the sound of Oikawa dramatically huffing air through his nose. Daichi looked down at the bottle, his eyebrows raised before taking it.

“Thank you, Suga-san.”

“Iwa-chan! You’ll come to the party too, right?” Oikawa asked, handing him the bottle that was thrown at his head just a moment ago.

“I– I don’t think–”

“Oh come on, Iwaizumi. You’re a workaholic and when you’re not working, you’re either at home or the gym. You never let loose.” Daichi says, taking a swig of his water. Suga watched the way his throat rolled when he swallowed and he had to force himself to look away.

“I do too let loose. I went with you to the club on your birthday.”

“Yeah. Eight months ago.” Oikawa snorted and playfully slapped Iwaizumi’s arm.

“You should come! It’ll be fun!” He said, leaning forward slightly so Iwaizumi had no other choice than to look into his big brown eyes.

“Text me the date and time. I’ll try to make sure I’m available.”

“We’ll be available. The captain owes me a favor for working an unscheduled double shift.” Daichi grins, laughing at the way Iwaizumi groans, earning another light smack to his arm.

“Is it already six-thirty?” Daichi asks, glancing at his phone. The four of them sat around the living room, talking about anything that came to mind. Their latest conversation had been about their jobs and Oikawa was going on and on about the gossip he hears as a pediatric nurse.

“Oh, I didn’t realize. I suppose it’s about time I find something for dinner. Do you guys wanna stay? It’s the least I could do since you’ve both been so helpful.” He offers, standing up from his spot on the couch.

“If you want, I can help you cook.” Daichi says, sitting up and resting his elbows on his knees.

“You cook? I was just gonna order something for us–”

“Nonsense, that’ll be too expensive. Show me what you got and we can figure something out.” He says, standing up and letting Suga walk ahead of him to the kitchen.

“They’re so obvious.” Oikawa groans.

“What do you mean?” Iwaizumi laughs from beside him. Oikawa purses his lips together and pats him on the shoulder.

“You’ll understand when you’re older, Iwa-chan.”

“What do you– I’m pretty sure I’m older than you, Shittykawa.” The nickname slipped from his lips in a teasing tone and Oikawa’s head snapped in his direction.

“I have to say, I’m a little disappointed, Iwa-chan. I was expecting a nickname that was a little more endearing.” He said, crossing his arms and turning his head, pretending he was annoyed. Iwaizumi chuckled under his breath, muttering something Oikawa couldn’t quite hear.

“You seem to have all the ingredients for curry rice, would you be okay with that?” Daichi asks, standing in front of Suga’s fridge.

“Yeah, that’s fine! Are you really sure that you want to help? It’s your day off and you just installed a window for me.” He questioned from the sink. He busied himself by washing his hands so he wouldn’t feel the urge to stare at Daichi’s back as he peeked through Suga’s shelves. He heard Daichi set a few things on the counter before closing the fridge.

“I don’t mind at all. I actually really enjoy cooking.” He said, moving towards the sink to wash his own hands.

Suga felt the warmth from his body and was about to pull back to dry his hands when he felt Daichi’s palm ghost over his back as he leaned in front of him for the soap.

“I like the process of being able to make something that everyone can enjoy.” He says, smiling as he brings his hand over the sink to pump a bit of soap into it. Suga blinked before stepping back to grab a hand towel.

“I don’t mind cooking, I like making some foods more than others, and it’s cheaper than ordering takeout every night.” He laughs, hiding the nervousness in his voice as Daichi focuses on washing up.

To Suga’s relief, Oikawa comes waltzing into the kitchen with Iwaizumi trailing behind him.

“What’s for dinner, Suga-chan?” Oikawa asked, taking a seat by the wall, giving him a full view of the kitchen.

“We’re making curry rice.” He said, handing the towel to Daichi as he stared intently at Oikawa.

“Ooh! Sounds yummy! Do we need anything else? Iwa-chan and I would be happy to run to the store!”

“We would?”

“Yes, we would!” Suga stares holes into his head as he shakes his head.

“I don’t think–”

“Actually, Oikawa-san, could you grab some spices for me if you don’t mind? I usually like to add a few extra things to the curry.” Daichi spoke up, not paying attention to how Suga’s eyes widened beside him.

“Of course! Just text Iwa-chan what you need!” He said, grabbing Iwaizumi’s wrist and pulling him out of the kitchen and towards the door.

“You don’t need to yank me around–” The sound of the door closing cut off Iwaizumi’s voice, leaving the two of them in complete silence.

Well, almost complete silence. The sounds of Daichi moving about the kitchen echoed loudly in Suga’s brain. It was so domestic for them to be here, preparing dinner together and he barely just learned that Daichi was, in fact, single.

“Suga-san, where’s your cutting boards?” Daichi asked, pulling him out of his thoughts. He blinked a couple of times, processing the question before moving to grab a cutting board from a drawer and placing it in front of Daichi. He thanked him before grabbing a chicken breast from the pack and setting it down. His knife-handling skills were quick and precise and Suga couldn’t help but stare.

“How do you do that so fast?” He asked, looking up to see a grin on Daichi’s face.

“I guess after cooking for myself and some friends for the past few years, I’ve gained a few skills.” He says, chuckling as he moves the cubed chicken breast to a bowl Suga had grabbed for him.

“Would you mind grabbing my phone and sending a text to Iwaizumi? I don’t wanna transfer anything and have to wash my hands again since it’s already gonna take a while to prepare everything.”

“Oh– Sure. Where is–”

“Should be by the sink.” Suga turned and saw it sitting on the counter next to the sink. He grabbed it and swiped up on the screen, surprised that he didn’t have a lock on his phone.

“Aren’t you worried about people going through your phone?” He asked, an eyebrow raised as he opened the messaging app.

“I don’t see why I should be worried.” He chuckled, cutting into another chicken breast. “I don’t have anything to hide.” Suga smiled slightly to himself as he opened the messages between Daichi and Iwaizumi.

Iwaizumi: Hey, that Oikawa guy wants help installing Suga-san’s window on Saturday.

Daichi: Oikawa-san? He asked you?

Iwaizumi: Yeah. He told me to bring you along and I know you’re off that day, so please don’t leave me alone with him. He’s sorta intense.

Daichi: That’s because he’s into you dude

Daichi: But don’t worry, I’ll be there :)

Iwaizumi: Hey, I’m outside, let’s go.

“Aren’t you worried about someone stealing it and getting into it?” Suga asks, smiling softly at the messages before looking up at Daichi. He meets his gaze and tilts his head quizzically before letting out a short laugh.

“Suga-san– I’m a cop. ” He said, laughing and shaking his head as Suga realized how silly his question sounded.

“I– You’re absolutely right. I wasn’t thinking. What should I tell Iwaizumi-san to get?”

Daichi listed off a few spices and Suga suggested that they also pick up a bottle of wine because he likes to enjoy a glass with dinner. Daichi continued prepping the chicken and other ingredients while Suga mostly just watched him work. He couldn’t help but feel mesmerized by how fluid Daichi’s movements were around the kitchen– his kitchen.

They were laughing about something one of Daichi’s old classmates had done (something about the principal's wig landing on Daichi’s head) when Iwaizumi and Oikawa returned.

“We’re back!” Oikawa sang, striding into the kitchen with two bottles of wine while Iwaizumi carried a small bag of spices.

“Great! Now the real fun can begin!” Daichi says, catching the bag Iwaizumi tossed at him.

“Dai-chan, oh my god. ” Oikawa groaned, holding a hand over his mouth as he chewed. Daichi laughed, a faint blush on his cheeks at the obvious praise. Suga takes a bite, unaware of the eyes trained on him for a reaction. His eyes widened slightly before closing. He hummed happily around the food and wiggled in his seat slightly.

“Do you like it?” Daichi asked, a smile on his face as Suga nodded.

“It’s really good. I might just have to have you cook for my house-warming party.” He laughs, taking another bite.

“I’d be happy to, what would you–” The sound of coughing interrupted him as Suga tried clearing his throat. Daichi’s eyes went wide and he moved his hand to pat Suga’s back when the man held up a finger and swallowed his food.

“Are you–”

“I’m okay! Just– it went down the wrong pipe.” Suga said, clearing his throat. His face flushed with embarrassment as Oikawa stifled a laugh. He grabbed his glass of wine and took a long drink.

“Kou-chan, you need to be more careful. You’re lucky that you’re surrounded by several people who are CPR certified.” He said, wiggling his eyebrows. Only Suga seemed to notice though as Daichi was still looking him over to make sure that he was okay.

“Anyway– Daichi, I was just kidding about you making food for the party. I couldn’t ask you to do that much–”

“Of course, you can. I told you, I really enjoy cooking and I don’t mind helping you set up. It’s a house-warming party, isn’t it? You should be able to relax and enjoy your night just as much as your guests.”

Suga was at a loss for words. How could one person be so kind and giving? He supposed that Daichi’s natural instinct to help others played a big part in him deciding which career path he wanted to take. Suga smiled at him and nodded.

“I guess you’re right. I’ll text you about planning later, but for now we should eat!”

***

“I’m not really looking for anything heavy on the stomach. Maybe just a few appetizers and a grazing board?” Suga says as he pushes a shopping cart down the aisles. Daichi walked in front of the cart, looking at a few items before either placing them back on the shelf or into the cart.

“That sounds good. It gives more options and people can always eat more if they want.”

When Daichi asked Suga to tag along to go grocery shopping with him the morning of the party, he nearly short circuited. He accepted and when Daichi told him that he’d stop by in thirty minutes to pick him up, Suga practically jumped out of bed and straight into the shower.

He called Oikawa as soon as he finished because ‘What the hell do I wear? Does this mean anything? I’ve only got fifteen minutes, Tooru, please stop laughing!’

He settled on a pair of dark blue jeans and a gray V-neck shirt. He blow dried his hair as best as he could before there was a knock on his door.

And now they’re here, at the grocery store together , shopping for food that Daichi’s going to cook for Suga’s house-warming party. He wasn’t entirely sure why he agreed that night. Perhaps it was the wine paired with the lack of oxygen going to his brain due to him nearly choking.

He watched fondly as Daichi decided between two different brands of the same cheese.

“Weren’t you the one that told me not to overthink or it would drive me crazy?” He teased, catching Daichi’s attention. His face was confused before it morphed into amusement.

“You see, Suga. This cheese came from a cow named Claire. This one doesn’t have anything written on it regarding the cows they came from and I was wondering how the brand treats their animals.” Suga could barely register his words because he was too focused on the fact that Daichi didn’t use an honorific after his name.

“Claire?” He asked, uncertain if he had heard him correctly.

“Yeah! It says here that she’s got two siblings and a calf.” He said, walking over to show him the wrapping.

It was such a simple thing, but Suga felt warmth spread through his body as Daichi read the small paragraph to him.

“Get the Claire cheese.” Suga said, prompting Daichi to chuckle before setting it in the cart.

“It’s not so bad to consider your options when you get to learn more along the way.” He says, smiling before stopping to grab a pack of double stuffed oreos. He tosses them into the cart without a second glance and Suga stares at him.

“What just happened to ‘consider your options’?” He asked, laughing as he looked between the cookies and the man who now wore a serious expression.

“There’s nothing else to consider when oreos are involved.” He states, matter-of-factly. Suga just shakes his head and pushes the cart along.

Back at the house, Daichi helped Suga put the groceries away, leaving out the ones they decided to work with. Suga did feel more comfortable in Daichi’s presence since he’d been around him the whole day, but he couldn’t help but flush when he reached past him for anything or when his body would gently brush against Suga’s. He stepped towards the entryway and glanced at Daichi, who was now prepping the charcuterie board.

“I’m gonna go put some music on in the living room. Is there anything you particularly listen to?” Daichi looked up and thought about it for a moment before shaking his head.

“I’m not really picky. You can pick whatever you like.” Suga nods and moves to the living room, grabbing his phone and pairing his spotify to the TV. He puts on an old pop playlist and puts it at a reasonable volume so he could still hear and talk to Daichi if needed.

“What time is Iwaizumi-san arriving?” Suga asks, washing his hands to help Daichi assemble the board.

“He said that he was going to pick up Oikawa-san, so I imagine they’ll be here before the party starts.” Suga snorts in response, catching Daichi off guard before shaking his head.

“If he’s picking up Tooru, then you can expect to see them an hour late at the earliest .” He said, popping a grape into his mouth.

“What do you mean? Also, you’re lucky I washed those. You could have eaten a contaminated grape.” He said, pointing a dip spoon at him.

“I applaud your diligence.” He smirks, earning a smile from the man as he lowers the spoon to scoop more hummus into a serving bowl. “But what I meant was that Tooru tends to be… fashionably late. Knowing that Iwaizumi-san is picking him up? Well, let’s just say that our friends might be hooking up sooner rather than later.” He finishes, his ears tinged pink as he realized that Daichi was smirking at him.

“I knew Oikawa-san was into him! He didn’t believe me!” He laughed, shaking his head. “Don’t say anything, but Iwaizumi is interested too. He’s not the greatest at expressing his feelings, but he’s a good guy. I met him at the training academy and I would trust him with my life.” Daichi spoke fondly, causing Suga to smile as he cut some mini vegetables.

“I’m glad to hear you speak so highly of him. Tooru’s standards are pretty high when it comes to potential partners, so him being interested in Iwaizumi already says good things about his character.”

“What about you?” Suga looked up and tilted his head.

“What about me?” He asked, watching Daichi’s eyes meet his.

“You said Oikawa-san’s standards are pretty high, what about yours?”

“My standards are… a work in progress.” Suga laughs, looking towards the window to see a car drive by.

“When you say that, it makes it sound like the bar was pretty low in the past.” Daichi says, placing a handful of almonds throughout the board.

“Yet men still managed to limbo right under it.” Suga laughed dryly as Daichi stifled a laugh.

“You know… You don’t have to keep playing games to find someone.” Suga snapped his head in Daichi’s direction, eyes wide and heart pounding as he saw Daichi’s back to him. He was grabbing a small jar of honey from the counter to place on the board.

“I–”

“You’re a good guy, Suga. You deserve someone who’s gonna treat you right, so I’m glad your standards are a work in progress.” Suga’s heart felt like it was seconds away from bursting out of his chest. He swallowed hard and caught Daichi’s gaze.

Before Suga could respond, his phone rang loudly, effectively distracting the both of them from the topic at hand. He grabbed his phone from his pocket and saw that Oikawa was calling him.

“It’s Tooru. I should take this.” He said, holding up the phone and stepping towards the hallway.

“Of course. I’ll be in here.” Daichi smiles, turning back to his work.

Oikawa kept Suga on the phone for an hour trying to decide what to wear. When Suga suggested heading back to the kitchen, Oikawa would whine and say that he didn’t want Daichi to know that he was trying to dress to impress his friend.

Suga, on the other hand, also had to keep quiet about Iwaizumi’s feelings towards Oikawa. Not only because Daichi trusted him enough not to say anything, but also because if he did tell Oikawa, Suga knew just how insufferable he would be towards poor Iwaizumi who was still figuring out if Oikawa liked him in return.

When Suga was finally able to return to the kitchen, (after much whining about how Suga didn’t understand his dilemma) he saw Daichi placing different platters of food on the bar counter.

“Sorry, that took much longer than I thought. Tooru can be a little dramatic sometimes.” He said, laughing as he moved to get a closer look at the plates. “This seriously looks amazing, Daichi. I can’t thank you enough for helping me.” He turned to see Daichi washing his hands at the sink with a small smile on his face.

“No thanks necessary. I’m glad to help where I can.” Before Suga could respond, there was a knock at the door.

“That must be the first guest!”

Kiyoko and her husband were the first to arrive. Suga greeted them and led them into the house, introducing them to Daichi before giving them a short tour of the house. He caught the way Kiyoko looked at him, but he tried to focus more on showing them around. He’d deal with answering her questions about Daichi later.

Within the next hour and a half, the house was busy with more of Suga’s (and Oikawa’s) friends. Some had brought gifts and others brought cards, congratulating him on taking this big step. Suga watched a few of his friends talking with peers they haven’t seen since high school and others greeting his work friends and swapping funny stories that Suga had taken part in. (“And then Suga jumped ONTO the bar and started dancing!” “Oh my god I would pay to see that.” “No need! I have a video!”)

He walked into the kitchen and noticed that Kiyoko was talking animatedly with Daichi, making him laugh loudly at something that she said. He walked up to the both of them and smiled nervously.

“What are we talking about over here?” He asked, catching Daichi’s attention first.

“We were just talking about how Kiyoko-san’s husband asked her to marry him the first time he laid eyes on her.” Suga looked at Kiyoko, letting out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.

“Did he really? That honestly checks out. He practically worships the ground you walk on.” Kiyoko laughed and nodded.

“It’s true. He saw me walk into the gymnasium and immediately proposed. Of course I said no, but things ended up working out in the end.” She said, smiling softly as Ryuunosuke walked into the kitchen. His eyes landed on the various appetizers and he immediately grabbed and started filling a paper plate.

“I couldn’t imagine proposing to someone at first sight.” Suga laughed, grabbing a cheese wedge from the board next to him.

“I can understand immediately feeling attraction to someone, but I agree with you on that one, Suga.” Daichi says, unaware of the way Kiyoko eyed him.

“So, Daichi- san .” Kiyoko starts, putting a light emphasis on the honorific, causing Suga to blush slightly. Daichi directed his attention back to her before she continued. “Suga-san tells me that you’ve been helping him out a lot; with the vandalism and a few other things around the house.” Suga’s eyes widened slightly as he felt Daichi’s gaze on him.

“Mostly with things relating to the damage caused by the vandalism. He’s a bit stubborn and doesn’t like accepting help, even when I tell him it’s okay.” Suga turned to face Daichi and he frowned.

“That’s because I know you’re a busy guy and you have stuff to do.”

“You seem to think that, but I honestly don’t have many plans when I’m not working. If I’m choosing to spend my days off helping you out, then that means I want to.”

‘I want to.’

The words replayed in Suga’s head, but before he could react, a loud voice rang out.

“I have arrived! The housewarming party can officially start!” His head snapped towards the hallway where he saw Oikawa and Iwaizumi standing. Oikawa wore a pair of gray skinny jeans with a powder blue cropped hoodie. Iwaizumi wore a simple pair of blue jeans and a black t-shirt. He held a gift bag in his hand and a small grin on his face.

“Iwaizumi arriving almost two hours late to a party? This is new.” Daichi teased, smirking at the blush working its way onto Iwaizumi’s face.

“Oh, Iwa-chan came to pick me up, but we lost track of time.” Suga looked at Oikawa with a brow raised and his friend met his gaze with a smile.

Oh, they definitely fooled around. He thought, shaking his head with a laugh.

“Well I’m glad you both could make it! Thank you for driving all that way to get him, Iwaizumi-san. I’m sure he talked your ear off.” Suga ignored the fake gasp from Oikawa and took the bag Iwaizumi handed to him.

“It’s not a problem, Suga-san. He definitely likes to hear the sound of his own voice.”

“Mean, Iwa-chan!”

As the night went on, Suga couldn’t help but feel eyes on him. Sure, it was his party and he knew that all the attention was on him, but he knew the eyes belonged to the man that was at his side for the majority of the night. He had caught Daichi’s gaze a few times throughout the night as he carried on conversations with friends and coworkers alike. The man always offered him a soft smile before turning his gaze somewhere else for a few minutes.

However, Suga could always feel his gaze fall back to him without fail.

They were sitting on the couch, well, Daichi sitting and Suga sitting on the armrest beside him, talking animatedly to a few of Suga’s former classmates, when two more squeezed through the doorway.

“I see you two haven’t changed much.” He joked, watching as his short-tempered kouhai shoved the other.

The next thing Suga saw was orange flying towards him. Kageyama had shoved Hinata a little too hard and sent him barreling towards Suga. Strong arms wrapped around his middle and pulled him off of the armrest before the man could run into him.

“You two should be a bit more careful when you’re in somebody else’s home.” He heard Daichi’s firm voice extremely close to his ear and it sent a tingly sensation down his spine. His body flushed hot when he realized that he was pulled into Daichi’s lap.

“I’m so sorry, Suga-san!” The two apologized quickly and bowed their heads as Suga stood up and rounded the corner to greet them with a hug.

“No harm done, but Daichi’s right. You should be a little more careful. I’m surprised that you two were able to make it! I figured that you’d both be too busy with Olympic training.”

“Olympic train–? Did I just scold professional athletes?” Daichi asked, scratching the back of his neck. Suga laughed and looked at his former kouhais. They had grown in so many ways, but their competitiveness held more fire.

“Yes you did. And it worked.”

“Thanks for sticking around to help me clean up. I was honestly just going to put the leftovers away and deal with the rest tomorrow.” Suga laughed, picking up another empty cup from the counter and throwing it into the trash bag.

“Of course. I figured that I could help take some of the stress off of your shoulders. And at least this way, you can just relax tomorrow.” Daichi said, snapping a lid onto a bowl before putting it in the fridge and moving to the sink to wash some of the dishes.

“You don’t need to do those–”

“I already put the food away and you’re still gathering trash. It’s the least I could do.” Suga smiled softly, watching the way Daichi focused on scrubbing each dish. He felt a familiar warmth spread through his chest as he took in the domesticity of the situation.

“Thank you, Daichi. All of your help has meant so much to me and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to pay you back for everything you’ve done.” He said, gathering the last few paper plates and cups and throwing them away. He tied off the bag before stepping next to Daichi.

“That’s okay. It’s a good thing I don’t want you to pay me back anyway.” He said, allowing Suga to wash his hands on the dirty side of the sink.

“But why? You’re doing so much for me and you deserve to be compensated.” He said, taking a towel and drying the dishes Daichi had already washed. He felt the warmth radiating from the man’s body and he resisted the urge to lean into him.

“I told you that I do all of that stuff because I want to, Suga. I never did anything in hopes to have you owe me anything.”

There was that word again. Want. Suga felt his cheeks growing warm and he knew he couldn’t blame it on the scalding water because Daichi was the one washing the dishes. Daichi has started to have that effect on him more often than not lately.

“I just– I really appreciate everything. And thank you for helping with the party! Having you around has made getting ready so much easier. Everyone really liked the food you prepared.” Suga said, smiling softly as he placed the dry dishes to the side.

“It’s really not a problem, Suga. I honestly really like your kitchen because it’s got a lot more counter space than mine does.” Daichi chuckled, placing the last clean dish on Suga’s side before grabbing a clean hand towel to dry his hands.

“The kitchen is a big reason why I wanted the place.” He says, smiling fondly as he looks at various aspects of the room.

“You mean you didn’t buy it for the free toilet paper?” He asked, a confused expression on his face before he faltered. Suga gasped, lightly smacking the man’s chest and shaking his head. He dried the last item and set it on the counter before turning around and leaning his back against the sink.

Definitely not. Which by the way– how exactly did you get the toilet paper out of the tree? By any chance are you hiding the fact that you’re actually a superhero and can fly? Because I would be quite upset that you haven’t offered to fly me around the city.” Suga teases, watching the smile on Daichi’s face turn into a boyish grin.

“A guy in the fire department owed me a favor. Wasn’t hard to clean up once we got the truck out here.” He answers, chuckling at the way Suga’s eyes widened.

“You had someone bring a firetruck here to get toilet paper out of my tree?”

“Well, when you say it like that, it sounds sorta crazy.”

“Daichi. You had someone bring a firetruck here to get toilet paper out of my tree. Someone you barely know!” He repeated, earning a soft laugh from the man.

“Okay, I can hear how it sounds a bit crazy, but if I’m being honest…” He says, taking a step closer to Suga, watching the man’s eyes widen slightly. “I felt a little bad for waking you up so early. I was worried about someone breaking in and I wanted to make sure that you were alright. As for cleaning up your yard and tree? Let’s just say I saw how you were in distress and I wanted to lift that weight off of your shoulders.” Suga’s body warmed at their close proximity. He thought about Daichi’s words and his actions thus far and how he’s sending all the right signals.

“So, what I’m hearing is that you are a superhero.” Daichi looked down and laughed before meeting Suga’s gaze.

“I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not. I can’t fly you around the city.” He lifts his hand and moves to tuck a piece of hair behind Suga’s ear, causing a pink blush to settle on his cheeks.

“That’s okay–”

“I’m not done, Suga.” He says, his smile still as tender as ever. Suga felt his face burning as Daichi cautiously brought his hand down to caress his own. “I can’t fly you around the city, but I’d still like to sweep you off of your feet. If you’d let me.” Daichi finishes, curling his fingers into Suga’s, interlocking their fingers.

“Daichi…” His voice is soft and sweet to Daichi’s ears and he squeezes Suga’s hand reassuringly. Suga looks down at their hands, feeling the way his heart flutters in his chest. It was a cheesy line, but he didn’t care. Daichi was so incredibly kind and caring and he puts everything he has into anything he does. He was always there to lend Suga a helping hand and an ear for whenever he needed to talk about anything. He felt safe to be around. Safe to fall for without fearing for the worst.

He was also incredibly handsome and Suga had found himself fantasizing about the dark brown happy trail below his shirt more often than he cared to admit. He met Daichi’s gaze and opened his mouth to speak when a clattering sound outside snapped both of them out of the moment.

Daichi immediately let go of Suga’s hand and held a finger up. Suga closed his mouth and his heart beat rapidly as Daichi moved to look out of the back door. He immediately saw a figure poking around a wood pile on Suga’s property with logs scattered around on the ground.

“There’s someone near the fire pit. If I walk out now, they’ll see me and bolt.”

“Do you think it’s the person that’s been vandalizing my house?” Suga asks quietly from behind him. Daichi nods and leans for Suga to get a look.

“I bet that that’s the jacket that got ripped that night. Damn it. ” Suga could see the frustration on Daichi’s face as he pulled out his phone, pressing a few buttons and pressing it to his ear.

“Hey, I need you to send some– Yes, I went to the party. I’m still here, but this is serious so please listen. Okay, I need you to send some officers this way because there’s a person poking around in the backyard and I believe it might be the same person that’s been vandalizing Suga’s house.” Daichi was silent for a moment as the person on the other end of the phone spoke.

“Okay, sounds good. I don’t have my gear on me, so I can’t–” Suga watched the serious expression on Daichi’s face twist before softening. “Yes, captain.” The call ended and Daichi glanced outside to see the person knocking down more logs and looking through a few of them.

“What’s going on?” Suga asked, gaining Daichi’s attention.

“Captain’s sending over some officers in the area, but he said if they try to do anything too destructive before they get here, I can apprehend him until they arrive.” Suga nodded, worried that if he spoke, it would come out louder than he anticipated and get the vandal’s attention. Daichi placed a hand on his shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze.

“It’s gonna be okay. I’m not gonna let anything happen again.” He says, turning his attention back to the window, but leaving his hand on Suga’s shoulder.

The figure outside looked through a few of the logs lying on the ground before picking up a fairly large one. They nodded and turned to look towards the house. Daichi flattened his back against the wall and watched the person start walking towards the new kitchen window.

“I’ll be right back.” Daichi says, letting go of Suga’s shoulder and opening the door quietly.

Suga’s heart rate quickened as he watched the scene unfold before him. Daichi ran towards the person, but they heard the footsteps and cursed before throwing the log on the ground in his path.

“Stop right now!” He yelled, jumping over the log and closing the distance between them. Daichi grabbed the jacket and pulled as hard as he could to knock the person off balance.

“Shit!” The man yelled as he hit the ground. Daichi rolled him over and pinned his arms behind his back, effectively restraining him.

“Jeez! What are you? A cop? Why is your grip so damn tight?” He asked, pulling his arms, but failing to free them from Daichi’s grasp.

“I am actually. Though I’m not on duty, I’d be happy to tell you your rights.” Suga watched from a few meters away with a relieved expression on his face.

“Officer Sawamura! You caught the suspect!” Suga looked up to see another officer jogging towards them. He assumed that this was the backup that Daichi requested.

“I don’t have my handcuffs on me and he keeps resisting. Get over here and restrain him, Konoha.” Daichi’s voice was commanding and firm as he ordered the other officer to cuff the man.

Once Konoha was apprehending the suspect, Daichi stood up and brushed off his jeans. He glanced towards Suga and gave him a small smile.

“Officer Sawamura, Captain Ukai wanted me to tell you to come down to the station since other officers are currently busy.”

“It’s my day off–”

“It’s technically after midnight and he said that it wouldn’t take long. He said that since you’re the one working on this case, you should be the one to book him.” Daichi nodded before giving Suga an apologetic look.

“Are you gonna be–”

“I’ll be fine, Daichi. I feel a lot better now that I know he’s in custody. Go on ahead, I’m gonna go back inside and finish cleaning up.” Suga smiled and turned to head inside before Daichi could respond.

Suga closed and locked the back door before taking a deep breath. He was happy that the man was caught, but he couldn’t help but feel disappointed by the interruption. They were so close to having a major breakthrough and Suga was okay with it.

He was ready for it.

He thought about calling Oikawa, but he knew that his phone was probably on ‘Do Not Disturb’ since he left with Iwaizumi. They were practically glued to each other all night and Suga could tell by the look Oikawa had given him that he was probably going to do some not-so-PG things to him back at Iwaizumi’s place.

Suga grabbed a washcloth, running it under hot water before wringing it out and wiping down the countertops. He figured that keeping himself busy would help him ease his mind, but he soon learned that he was only able to think about Daichi.

“If I’m choosing to spend my days off helping you out, then that means I want to.”

“I never did anything in hopes to have you owe me anything.”

“I can’t fly you around the city, but I’d still like to sweep you off of your feet. If you’d let me.”

Daichi’s words swam around his brain as he finished wiping down the surfaces. He thought about how Daichi pulled him into his lap to avoid getting run into and the way Daichi admitted to using a favor to help him when he barely knew anything about him. He thought about how he stepped closer to him and tucked a stray piece of hair behind his ear before carefully running his hand down his arm, his fingers brushing lightly against his skin, lighting it ablaze before intertwining with his own. The way Daichi had only ever looked at him with tender eyes that were so full of care and adoration made Suga’s heart swell.

To hell with having a type, he wanted Sawamura Daichi.

He wanted to wrap his arms around his broad shoulders and feel Daichi’s hands settle on his waist. He wanted Daichi to sweep him off of his feet just like he said he would and hold him closely to him.

He thought about how badly he wanted Daichi before realizing that this wasn’t as simple as wanting.

He needed Daichi.

Suga grabbed the kettle and filled it with water before putting it on the stove. He figured that he wouldn’t be sleeping anytime soon if he couldn’t calm his mind and heart down.

Not that he was tired anyway. He had just watched the man he adored take down the man that's been causing him so much stress. His mind was buzzing with so many thoughts, he could hardly register the sound of the kettle whistling in front of him.

Had he really been thinking for that long? Suga looked at the time on the clock and noticed that it was already close to one in the morning. He grabbed his tea from the cabinet before grabbing the kettle, pouring the hot water over the teabag. He took a seat at his kitchen table and grabbed his phone from his pocket.

It had been an hour and a half since Daichi left and Suga was getting a bit antsy. He wanted to tell Daichi that he had Suga’s full permission to sweep him off of his feet, but he didn’t want to leave a text or call. He needed to tell him in person. He needed to see Daichi’s face when he told him that he liked having him around and that he’d like to see what could become of them. He needed to kiss him and hold him close and thread his fingers through his short hair.

A knock at the front door pulled Suga from his thoughts. He checked the time and saw his phone read ‘1:37’. Who would be knocking this late? Did one of the guests forget something? Suga doesn’t remember coming across anything when he was tidying up.

Setting his mug down, Suga stood and cautiously made his way to the door. He unlocked it and cracked it open slightly, his breath hitching when he saw Daichi standing on his porch with his hands in his pockets. He opens the door fully and locks eyes with the man.

“Daichi…”

“Can I come in?” Suga stepped aside and allowed Daichi to walk into the house. His heart started racing as he watched Daichi’s flushed face turn apologetic.

“I wanted to make sure that you were alright. I’m sorry, I should have called before showing up unannounced–” Daichi was cut off by Suga launching himself into his chest, wrapping his arms around his neck and pressing his lips to his.

Daichi’s initial shock melted away quickly and he kissed him back, placing a hand on Suga’s waist and walking forward to lock and shut the door with his other hand. He squeezed Suga’s waist and cupped his jaw, tilting his head and slotting their mouths against each other.

Suga hummed into the kiss, swiping his tongue along Daichi’s bottom lip before dipping into his mouth. He worked a hand into Daichi’s hair, letting the soft strands weave around his fingers before Daichi pulled back to breathe. Suga tried chasing his lips, but Daichi’s firm hands gripped his waist, holding him in place as he breathed out a chuckle.

“Suga, can we talk about this–” His eyes widened at the needy sound Suga let out.

“Daichi… I– I’ve been thinking about you for a while…” Daichi’s breath catches in his throat as he blinks in response.

“You– like when you’re alone?” He asks, voice low and slightly unsteady.

Suga nodded in response. He didn’t think he’d admit this to the man, but with the blood rushing to his groin and Daichi’s hands placed firmly at his sides, he was growing needy. He had just accepted that he wanted him, so where’s the harm in telling him about his inappropriate thoughts?

“I-In the shower I–” He felt Daichi’s fingers press into his skin. He was staring intently at Suga, breathing heavily. It was almost like he was trying to hold himself back so he could listen to what Suga was saying. “I think about you.”

“Shit, Suga…” Daichi laid his head on his shoulder and rubbed his hands up and down Suga’s torso. “What about me? Tell me…” He said, pressing his lips to Suga’s neck.

“I think about your strong arms and how easily you could lift me…” He starts, feeling the way Daichi’s hands moved down to his hips before resting his palms over his ass. Daichi hummed against his neck, licking and kissing the skin while Suga breathed heavily in his ear.

“I think about how kind you are and how you could take such good care of me… fuck, Daichi… ” He whined, feeling the man suck the sensitive skin between his teeth before squeezing his ass.

“What do you do when you think of me like this, Suga?” Daichi whispered before kissing over the dark, wet bruises on his pale skin.

“I touch myself, Daichi. I finger myself and wish that it was you instead because I know you could open me up so much better. I close my eyes and imagine that you’re there with me and when I– when I finish, I say your name. Please stop teasing me and touch–” Daichi cut him off with a rough kiss, shoving his tongue into Suga’s mouth before pushing him against the nearest wall and pressing his thigh between his legs. Suga immediately grinded down onto him, moaning into his mouth at the satisfying friction.

Daichi knew Suga was aroused, but to feel him frotting against his thigh made him lightheaded with want. He gave Suga’s ass one more squeeze before leaning forward to grip the back of his thighs, lifting him as easily as he knew he could. Suga’s legs wrapped around his waist and his arms tightened around his shoulders. Being lifted so effortlessly made him whimper against Daichi’s lips before he reluctantly pulled back.

“Second door on the left.” He breathed, leaning forward to kiss Daichi’s neck and return the treatment that was given just minutes ago. Daichi started walking towards Suga’s room, his breath catching when Suga nipped at his earlobe.

“We don’t have to go all the way, but I really want to touch you, Dai…” Hearing the nickname had shivers running down Daichi’s spine and added fuel to the fire burning beneath his skin. He quickly made his way down the hall and pressed Suga against the door, shoving his tongue into his mouth while the man in his arms grasped for the handle.

Once they entered the room, Daichi was torn between laying him on the bed and ravishing him or sitting to let Suga straddle his thighs and grind against his own erection. Luckily he didn’t have to think for long because Suga uncrossed his legs and dropped to his knees in front of Daichi.

“Is this okay?” He asked, fingers ghosting over the button of Daichi’s jeans. He looked down at the man and swallowed before nodding. God he looked so beautiful down there, looking up at him with his big doe eyes. Daichi’s hand rested on Suga’s face, his thumb caressing his cheek while he made quick work of pulling down his jeans and boxers.

“Oh my god, Daichi…” Suga said, staring at his fully erect cock before looking back up at Daichi through his long, silver eyelashes. Daichi blushed deeply at his words, heat spreading across his chest as he searched for a response.

“You don’t have to take all of it…” He said, groaning when he felt Suga’s hot tongue licking the underside of his cock. He bit his lip before letting his head fall back from the sensation. Suga wrapped his hand around him and stroked him slowly before opening his mouth to respond.

“I know I don’t have to, but I’m sure gonna try. God, your cock is so thick, Daichi.” Suga watched Daichi as he kissed the tip before wrapping his lips around him, circling his tongue around the head and over his slit. Daichi’s head snapped back towards him and he took in a ragged breath when their eyes met.

Daichi moved his hand to Suga’s hair, tangling his fingers in the strands and gripping tightly. He didn’t push or pull Suga, he just wanted to feel the way his head moved as he slowly took more of him into his mouth.

God, his mouth. It was hot, wet, and despite Suga’s jaw being wide open to accommodate his cock, it was tight. Daichi saw the way his lips stretched around his girth and he let out another low moan as Suga hummed, sending vibrations through him.

Fuck, Suga– ” He rasped, swallowing hard when Suga somehow took him further into his mouth. He hollowed his cheeks, sucking as he pulled back slightly only to force himself to take more. He bobbed his head on Daichi’s cock, moving a hand down to palm himself through his jeans. He was aching for friction, but he loved the feeling of Daichi, heavy against his tongue and gripping his hair tight in his fist.

He was so aroused by everything that’s taken place. The way Daichi helped him when his house and lawn were first defaced and when he sat on Suga’s porch the entire night after his window was broken, just so he could get some rest.

The fact that Daichi came over to help install a window despite Suga not asking for help to begin with. He did it because he would be helping Suga. He remembered the way Daichi’s shirt raised just enough to show the deep brown hair below his belly button, making up the most attractive happy trail Suga had ever seen.

He whined around the cock in his mouth at the thought and brought his hands up to the hem of Daichi’s shirt, slipping under the fabric and pressing his fingers into his hot skin. He swallowed around his length before pressing his forehead against the hair on his lower belly. Daichi heaved a heavy sigh as he watched Suga take him to the base. Nobody’s ever been able to take him all the way before and he could feel Suga’s throat, tight around his head. The man moaned around him before pulling back slightly.

“Suga, you– your mouth feels so fucking good around me. Fuck, I’m so close to– ” Another groan left his lips as Suga pushed forward, moaning and sucking Daichi’s cock with a new purpose.

Suga… I’m not gonna last much longer– Don’t you want to sto– Suga looked up at him, tears pricking in the corners of his eyes as he hummed a ‘no’.

“You swallow? Oh god… ” Suga warbled, pulling Daichi’s hips closer and burying his nose in the soft hairs on his pubic mound. Daichi tugged at his hair, tilting his face up to look at him.

Oh… ” He breathed out, reveling in Suga’s concupiscent expression. His half-lidded eyes were filled with desire as he slid his hands to cup Daichi’s ass, gagging as Daichi subconsciously bucked his hips forward.

“Shit, I’m so–” Suga hummed and gagged around him, causing his cock to twitch. His abdomen flexed as he tried not to thrust into his mouth, but it was pointless because Suga pulled back and forced himself to swallow his entire length, gagging himself to send Daichi over the edge.

“I’m coming– Fuck, Suga– ” Daichi muttered, spilling into Suga’s mouth and holding his head up to look him in the eyes. He felt his tongue press against him as he pulled back slightly. The sensation of his lips dragging against his cock paired with the view of seeing Suga looking up at him with a deep blush on his face had his mind reeling.

Suga pulled off Daichi to show him the cum coating his tongue before swallowing and presenting his empty mouth. Daichi blushed furiously before leaning forward to help Suga to his feet, kissing him once he was upright.

“You’re too good at that, I think it’s gonna cause me some trouble in the future.” He murmured against his lips before walking them to the bed.

The future. Suga thought, letting Daichi take the lead and lay him down before crawling on top of him. The thought of them continuing this for years to come had Suga’s heart racing with excitement as Daichi slipped a hand under his shirt, sliding up his torso and teasing a nipple with his thumb and index finger.

The wanton whine that left his throat had Daichi smirking against his lips as he brought his second hand to stimulate the other one, pulling back to study Suga’s face as he pinched and rolled the bud in his fingers.

“You’re so reactive. I didn’t think you’d be this sensitive, Suga.” He teased, lifting the shirt higher on his body and taking it off in one quick motion.

“Nobody’s– hah– No one’s ever touched me like this…” He gasps when Daichi licks and takes him into his mouth, grazing his teeth across it and sucking lightly.

“That’s a damn shame on their part.” He says, kissing the overstimulated nipple. “But I can’t help but feel a little glad that nobody’s seen you squirm like this over a bit of foreplay.”

Suga’s cock was straining against his jeans and hearing Daichi talking to him in this way wasn’t doing him any favors. He felt Daichi’s mouth on him again and he had to bite his fist to keep himself from crying out when he started giving the other bud the same treatment.

“You’ll hurt yourself doing that. You’re in your own house now, so you can be as loud as you want.” Daichi says, licking up his chest and kissing the junction between his neck and shoulder. He rolled his hips against Suga’s, eliciting a frustrated moan from the man.

“I’m so used to being quiet– Fuck– Daichi, please touch me already.” He pleaded for the second time that night. With the whine in his voice and the blush covering his chest, who was Daichi to deny him? He pressed a chaste kiss to his lips before moving his own down Suga’s body, kissing the warm skin and caressing his sides until he made his way to the front of his pants. Suga looked at him with expectant eyes and practically mewled when Daichi unbuttoned his jeans and pulled them down his legs.

“God, you’re so beautiful.” He said, kissing the side of Suga’s knee before hooking his fingers under the waistband of his boxers and pulling them down.

His eyes landed on the sight of Suga’s leaking cock and he groaned.

“As much as I’d love to return the favor, I had something else in mind.” Suga opened his mouth to ask what he meant, but yelped once his legs were hooked over Daichi’s shoulders and strong hands gripped his thighs firmly. He watched him dip his head lower before feeling the hot, wet muscle that was Daichi’s tongue press against his hole. He shuddered at the feeling and tensed his legs when Daichi circled his tongue around the tight muscle.

Oh fuck–! Daichi! ” He panted, fisting the sheets and trying to close his legs around the man’s head, but only succeeding in pulling him closer. Daichi shoved his tongue past his rim, drawing breathy moans from his lips as he licked into him.

Suga was embarrassed to say that nobody had ever done this either. He knew about foreplay, of course, but none of his past partners cared much for that. They just went from kissing, to heavy petting, to sex. However, that sex was particularly limited to blowjobs, handjobs, and actual fucking.

So when he felt Daichi suck against his rim, he whimpered loudly, bringing his hands down to pull his hair. The action had Daichi humming against him, his lips vibrating the way a dying toy would right when you’re so close to the edge. Suga whines and grips his hair tightly, pulling his face closer into him.

Daichi lifted Suga’s hips, effectively folding him once his legs weren’t locked so tightly around his shoulders. His fingers pressed into his thighs, spreading his legs to get a better angle.

Dai– Daichi, I’m gonna come–! ” Daichi moves one of his hands to stroke Suga’s cock and that’s all it takes to send him hurtling towards the edge. His toes curled and his fists tightened as he came, his eyes screwing shut as stripes of cum landed on his torso.

It had all happened so fast, Suga felt slightly ashamed for finishing so quickly. As Daichi carefully maneuvered to the side, he laid Suga’s legs on the bed and smiled fondly at him.

“You look happy with yourself.” Suga said, blushing deeply as Daichi’s smile grew wider.

“Do I? Good, because I am. I’m quite happy with how tonight went.” Daichi propped himself on one elbow and faced Suga, tucking a piece of hair behind his ear.

“Even though I came embarrassingly fast?”

“Suga, I don’t care how long you last. In fact, it kinda boosts my ego a bit. Seeing you fall apart so quickly.” He chuckled, earning a playful shove from Suga.

“Let’s get you cleaned up.” Daichi says, moving to stand from the bed, only for Suga to grab his hand.

“Can we shower? It’s been a long day and–”

“You don’t have to explain. I’ll do anything for you, you know this.” Suga blushed deeply at how casually Daichi spoke before helping him to his feet, his legs still a bit shaky from his orgasm.

They made their way to the bathroom, Suga letting Daichi borrow a spare toothbrush he had originally bought for when Oikawa would stay the night, but seeing as how that hadn't happened, meant that it was free for him to take.

Daichi removed his shirt, using it to wipe the excess toothpaste from his mouth before tossing it to the floor. Suga stared at his chest, wondering why it had taken this long for Daichi to take off his shirt.

“Like what you see?” A teasing voice snapped him out of his thoughts and he looked up to see Daichi’s amused expression.

“Yes.” Suga answered bluntly. In the past, he wouldn’t have known how to respond because he had never been with a buff guy, but now? Now… He wanted to press his hands to Daichi’s chest and squeeze his pecs and maybe lick them and bite them. He wondered if he could push them together and–

“Suga, you’re staring at me like you’re about to pounce on me.” He says, laughing nervously as Suga meets his gaze. Suga could already feel himself getting hot again before he stepped into the shower, motioning for Daichi to join him.

Daichi followed after him and quickly found himself being pressed against the shower wall. He looked at Suga, the way his hair darkened slightly from the water and how it nearly fell into his eyes before he’d use a hand and push it back. He watched water droplets roll down his cheeks, some settling over his mole.

He wanted to kiss it.

He leaned forward and pressed a chaste kiss to the mole just below Suga’s left eye, pulling back to see a flustered expression on the man’s face.

“Wha–”

“You are being so intimate with me and I was thinking horribly sinful things.” Daichi laughed a bit too loud for their close proximity, but Suga luckily didn’t mind as he was too busy trying to compose himself. Daichi leaned close to Suga’s ear and dropped his voice to just above a whisper.

“I’m sure I can think of something just as sinful.” Suga’s breath hitched as Daichi pulled back, a smug smile playing on his lips before morphing into something softer. “I’ve just wanted to do that since the first day I met you.”

“Even in the gross One Direction shirt?” Daichi chuckled and nodded.

“Yes. Even in the One Direction shirt with a ketchup stain on Louis’s face.”

“It was a barbecue stain, but I’m glad you got the band member right.” He said, smiling as he snaked his arms around Daichi’s neck, kissing him softly.

“I have two little sisters that are obsessed. Of course I’m going to know who they are.” Suga laughs and kisses him again before pulling back. His eyes travel along Daichi’s features before falling to stare at his chest. He just wanted to–

“You keep looking at my–” Before he can say another word, Suga leans down and bites the soft skin of his pec, earning a gasp from Daichi.

“I feel like that had something to do with those ‘horribly sinful things’ that you were thinking about me?”

“One of them.” He grins cheekily before leaning in to bite the other.

They took their time in the shower, slowly washing each other’s body and massaging shampoo into the other’s hair. Lazy kisses exchanged and more bite marks given. By the time they made their way out, Suga was tired and insisted that Daichi stayed the night with him.

With his damp hair slightly curling at the ends and the way Suga’s eyes softened when he asked, who was Daichi to deny him?

He’d do anything for him, of course.

The next morning, Suga wakes up with strong arms wrapped around his torso. It startles him for a moment before he hears a low hum coming from Daichi beside him. He felt warm lips against his shoulder, pressing a kiss to his skin.

Oh.

The memories from last night flooded his brain and he couldn’t help the blush that formed on his face.

“Good morning.” Oh god, this was going to kill Suga. His morning voice was deep and laced with sleep in a way that gave it a sort of gravely texture. He turned in his arms and faced the man in his bed. He wore a lopsided smile that turned into a smirk as he eyed Suga’s expression.

“Good morning.” He replied, his own sleepy voice cutting through the air and settling between them. Daichi leaned forward and pulled Suga into him, pressing a kiss to his forehead.

“Should we talk about last night?” He asked, resting his chin on Suga’s head as he held him against his chest. Suga contemplated his words and what they could possibly imply. The sex was great and he knew Daichi cared about him so he didn’t feel as if this were just a physical thing.

Unless…

Suga pulled away and looked into Daichi’s eyes, searching his features and finding uncertainty.

Could Daichi be worried this was just a physical thing?

Suga’s expression softened and he brought a hand up to cup Daichi’s jaw, caressing his cheek with his thumb. Daichi attempted to mask his worry as Suga looked at him, but he couldn’t keep his heart from racing.

“Daichi, I’m sorry that I basically jumped on you last night without making my emotions clear…” Daichi held his breath as Suga brushed the hair off of his forehead. His eyes were tender and he smiled warmly at Daichi. “You’ve made your feelings more apparent than I have, and I realize that maybe my actions seemed purely physical, but I’m assuring you now that I like you, Daichi. I like you a lot and it’s taken me a while to realize that because I’ve never–” Daichi cuts him off with a kiss, rolling to hover over him and attacking his neck with a barrage of kisses.

“Daichi–!” Suga giggles– he giggles – before Daichi pulls back enough to stare at him.

“Suga–”

“Koushi.” The correction brought a pretty blush to Daichi’s cheeks as he looked down and laughed before meeting Suga’s gaze.

Koushi, ” he starts, the name gliding off his tongue easily, “I don’t mind that it took you a while to realize. I might have heard from one of your friends that you’ve only ever been with a certain type of guy.” Suga’s eyes widened a bit, but Daichi continued before he could say anything.

“Someone at the party asked me how long we’ve been together and I told him that we weren’t.” Daichi’s blush deepened and he started up again. “He said that he had no idea that we weren’t together and that I should make a move before another, and these are his words, ‘shady ass snake’ broke your heart again. Of course I had no clue how to respond because I was a bit flustered, but he told me that my… physique was hot, but a lot different compared to–” Suga groaned and hid his face in his hands.

“I can’t believe we’re talking about my poor dating history while you’re literally naked on top of me.” Daichi laughed and grabbed one of Suga’s wrists, pulling it away from his face.

“I think the fact that I’m naked and on top of you makes having this conversation a lot easier.” He smirks, bringing Suga’s hand to his mouth and brushing a kiss against his knuckles. “ Anyway, as I was saying, I was a little intimidated, learning that you seemed to have a type, but your reactions to my minor advances gave me the motivation to continue. I felt like you were even flirting back, so I took a gamble and finally made a move.”

“And then I wasn’t able to respond because that guy showed up…” Suga said, frowning slightly at the thought. He knew that he and Daichi were okay now, but the thought of them having a misunderstanding upset Suga. Daichi nodded and pushed some of Suga’s hair behind his ear.

“I showed up last night hoping to continue our conversation and ask you on a date, but it ended up going way different from how I planned. I really enjoyed everything we did, don’t get me wrong, but I’ll admit that I was a little worried about you not feeling the same way. I knew that I wasn’t the sort of guy you typically go for and your enthusiasm last night really threw me for a loop.” He chuckled, watching Suga’s cheeks darken.

“You might not fit in with the others, but that’s a good thing. You’re much nicer and I’m still super attracted to you.” He smirked, wiggling his eyebrows up at Daichi, causing him to laugh.

“Oh, I know. You told me about your fantasies of me touching you and carrying you.”

“I wasn’t planning on telling you all of that, but I was really horny after seeing you in action. And when you showed up at my front door in the dead of night? That really got me going, I just couldn’t help myself.” Daichi’s face burned from how forward he could be, but he didn’t mind. Suga wrapped his arms around Daichi’s neck, the air shifting to something more playful and for that, Daichi was grateful. He allowed himself to be pulled into a soft kiss before pulling back and looking at Suga with a raised eyebrow.

“You’re turned on right now?”

“Daichi. You’re naked and on top of me. Of course I’m turned on right now.” He said as if it were the most obvious reason in the world. Daichi laughed and shook his head.

“And here I was, worried that my physique would hinder your circulatory system’s ability to give you a hard on.” He teased, pushing his thigh between Suga’s legs.

“It didn’t last night–”

“I also wasn’t fully undressed until after we fooled around.” Suga looked at his pecs, eyes trained on the bruises where his mouth was before letting out a dreamy sigh.

“Yeah.” Daichi snorted and shook his head.

“You also bit my–”

“Affectionately! They looked so squishy, I needed to!” Daichi laid his head on Suga’s chest and laughed.

“I guess I’ll have to deal with it while you get used to them then.” He says, kissing up his chest and neck before pressing another kiss to his jaw.

“I hope you don’t lose patience easily because I’ll never get used to them.” Suga responds, placing his hands on Daichi’s pecs and squeezing, a big grin on his face as Daichi chuckles and squirms in his grasp.

“I suppose I’ll be the one adjusting then.”

The sun shines through the sheer curtains and warms their skin, making the moment feel much more intimate than it should be. Suga smiles fondly at the man above him and slides his hands to rest against his nape, pulling him down into a slow kiss. He found himself smiling against his lips and humming as Daichi laid down and rolled Suga on top of him, large hands settling on his waist.

“Now you’re naked and on top of me .” Daichi stated, smirking at the way his words caused Suga to blush furiously. He didn’t miss the soft sound seeping from Suga’s lips as their groins pressed against each other’s.

“You’re making it really hard to wait for a date, you know?” Daichi hummed, sliding one of his hands to cup his ass.

“Am I? Well, in that case, how about I take you out to dinner tonight? I’d offer to cook for you, but I figured that we wouldn’t want to have another mess to clean up.” He squeezes Suga’s ass before bringing his hand to rest on the small of his back, pretending to not notice the pouty expression on the other man’s lips.

“I didn’t realize you’d be this much of a tease, Dai.” Suga says, a tinge of amusement in his tone. He sat up, moving to get off of Daichi’s body, but the man tightened his hold on his hips, holding him in place.

“I never said we’d need to wait to do other stuff. As you’re aware, there are other ways I can take care of you.” He says, eyes trailing down his body and falling between Suga’s legs. The blush on the paler man’s face spread down to his chest as he experimentally wiggled his hips, earning a slight groan from Daichi.

“Care to give me a demonstration?” Daichi bit his lip, smirking as he pulled Suga back down.

“Gladly.”

***

“Tell me everything!” Oikawa plopped down on Suga’s couch, handing him a fruity wine cooler. It was the following day and Daichi was currently working. Suga raised his eyebrows at his best friend before turning his body to face him.

“Me? You need to tell me everything.” He laughed, taking a sip as Oikawa flushed deeply. There were a few bruises peeking below his collar and Suga had been waiting to hear an update since Oikawa left the party with Iwaizumi.

“Okay, fine–”

“That took hardly any convincing.”

“Kou-chan, you told me to tell you everything and I’ve been waiting to tell you about my weekend so I’ll grace you with my spicy details and then you can tell me all about the eye-fucking and yearning looks you and Dai-chan shared while he helped you clean up.” Suga smirks in response, but luckily Oikawa doesn’t think anything of it. There was a perfectly good reason why Suga hadn’t told Oikawa, his best friend, about what happened, and that was because he wanted to tell him in person to see his reaction.

Tooru jumped straight into the details, leaving absolutely nothing out. He talked about how ‘Iwa-chan’ liked to get a little rough in the bedroom and how seeing him all assertive was ‘insanely hot’. He talked about how he played up his cocky attitude and how Iwaizumi had him screaming for more.

“I’m sure the scratches on his back will be there for quite a while.” He chuckles, taking a long drink of his wine cooler before continuing about the activities they participated in the next morning. Suga couldn’t help but laugh at the fact that they were both fooling around at about the same time. Oikawa doesn’t seem to think the laugh was out of place though, because he had just mentioned how Iwaizumi came immediately after sliding in and he also thought that it was quite comical.

Suga deduces that Oikawa had a very satisfying weekend and figures that it’s time for him to tell him the news.

“The guy that vandalized my house was caught after the party.” He starts, Oikawa’s eyes widening to the point Suga would be concerned about them popping out of his head.

“WHAT?!” Suga laughs as he tries to imagine how he’d react to the other information he was currently withholding.

“Yeah. As you know, Daichi was helping me clean up after the party and all of a sudden there was a noise outside. He looked out the window and saw the guy standing by the firepit poking around the logs.” Oikawa nodded, urging him to continue. “Daichi called his captain and explained what was happening and the captain said if anything seemed to change, he could take matters into his own hands.”

“Please tell me he did.”

“Oh, he did. The guy picked up one of the logs and started walking towards my new window–”

“The audacity!” Oikawa gasped, overdramatic and partially amused as he knew that the house was not currently damaged.

“Right! Anyway, Daichi ran after him, jumped over the log that the dude threw at him, and then pinned him to the ground.” Oikawa feigned a swoon, causing Suga to chuckle. He knew that these reactions were either going to increase dramatically or halt completely once he finished telling the story.

“What happened next? Did you finally admit your attraction to him when you saw him pin another guy down?” Oikawa wiggled his eyebrows, prompting Suga to roll his eyes.

“Nope. The captain wanted him to go down to the station to take care of the case since he was the officer running the investigation.” Oikawa’s smile faded and he furrowed his eyebrows.

“What? I thought Iwa-chan and Dai-chan had the day off?”

“They did, but it was technically after midnight and he was the most familiar with the case. He was promised the next day off though so it worked out.” Oikawa frowned and rolled his eyes.

“Boo! I was hoping for some sort of intense staring and arms brushing as you both washed the dishes or something. He just left? ” Suga nodded and did his best to contain his smirk.

“The whole situation was pretty intense, but he did stop by when he was done to make sure that I was okay.” Oikawa was suddenly staring holes into his head as Suga took another long drink from his bottle.

“Don’t sit there and drink slowly just to edge me! What happened? Did you confess? Did he confess?” Suga swallowed his drink and laughed before shaking his head.

“He tried to confess.” Oikawa balked at his words and sputtered incoherently.

“He tried to confess?! Sugawara Koushi, I swear, if you shot him down because you are scared–

“I didn’t let him confess because I sorta jumped into his arms and shoved my tongue down his throat.”

Oikawa looked as if someone had just hit the pause button on his body. His eyes widened and he shook his head like someone would shake the batteries in a remote.

You what–

“And then, when he tried to slow things down, I told him some very dirty things and he picked me up easily and carried me to my bedroom.”

“He–”

“And then I dropped to my knees and blew him. Tooru, I sucked his dick . He’s so big and girthy , oh my god, I didn’t think that I could fit all of it in my mouth, but I did! And then we got on the bed and he did things I’ve never done before! And afterwards we showered and fell asleep together, naked! His chest– oh my god, his chest– Not the point, anyway, we woke up the next morning and we talked about stuff and fooled around a bit and then he took me out to dinner that night and then we came back here and–”

“He fucked you?”

“He fucked me!” Suga beamed, relishing in the way Oikawa stood abruptly and did an excited little dance for him, singing ‘My best friend just got laaaiiidd’ a few times before sitting back on the couch.

“I’m glad you’ve finally gotten dicked down by someone that actually gives a damn about your wellbeing. Before you told me about Daichi, I was worried I’d have to resort to setting you up on blind dates.” Suga rolled his eyes, though there was no real heat in the action. A buzz from his pocket momentarily distracts him and he takes a second to pull his phone out.

Daichi: I know I just left this morning, but would you like to have dinner with me tonight? Captain gave me a giftcard to the new restaurant and told me to take you out to dinner as a little housewarming gift from him. He’s glad that your case was resolved too. :)

“Is that Dai-chan?~” Oikawa teased as a smile filled Suga’s face.

“He wants to take me to dinner tonight. The police captain is covering our bill as a housewarming gift.”

“Ooh! Let’s pick out your outfit right now.” He says, standing up and grabbing Suga’s wrist to pull him to his room. Suga relented and allowed himself to be dragged into his room while Oikawa opened his closet and started rummaging through the items.

Eight Months Later

“That’s the last of them!” Daichi called from the living room. Koushi stepped out of the kitchen and smiled warmly at his boyfriend. He looked around the living room, now filled with cardboard boxes, and bounced happily as he did when he first moved in.

“You’re officially moved in!” He says, smiling brightly as Daichi walks over to him, wrapping his arms around his waist and pulling him into a kiss.

“I am. I can officially say ‘ our kitchen’ now.” Koushi barked out a laugh and shook his head.

“Wait until Tooru finds out you moved in just for the granite countertops.”

“I think having the cop car out front is a pretty fair exchange.”

“Yeah, yeah.” He says, kissing him once more.
