Nightmare steps closer to investigate. A squirming yellow mass is amongst the forsaken goods. He picks it up tentatively with a tentacle and transfers the mass into his arms.
The weight of it alone confirms his suspicions but he pushes the blanket to the side to see it with his own eyes. It's a human child, with cheeks a blister-like red from being left cruelly in the snow.
In their haste they had abandoned a baby.

Hello!
In honor of Underverse 0.8 part 1 coming out and Jakei’s year and a half hiatus, I am going to (try to) do this thing I will be calling “Weekly Underverse” where I update weekly with some sort of Underverse related content.
It’s not going to be anything big. Some weeks it will be a 3,000 word Cross fic, maybe a digital drawing I worked on for 5 hours. Other weeks might be as small as a snippet of a poem that was inspired by an Underverse thing, or a little doodle I did in my notes packet. It may even be recycled content I have posted outside of this project.
But whatever it is, I will try to update it weekly until the hiatus is over.
Weekly Underverse starts today, November 20, 2024. Updates will (try to) be every Wednesday.
Underverse belongs to: Jael Peñaloza
Little note: I am nowhere near an Underverse expert, so most things might be fanon, most things might be Cross focused, but maybe I’ll do some learning and write with the other characters. Maybe I’ll give fun facts one week. We’ve got about 78 chances so… we’ll see where this goes!

Error watches, unflinching, as the skeleton's giant knife materializes, slicing through the stillness of the void. The vibrant glitches around his fingers pulsate more vividly in response, mirroring the tension. Despite the display of power, Error’s demeanor remains composed, almost amused by the dramatic reaction.
"You can call me Error. As for how I arrived here," he gestures loosely around them with a hand threaded with glitches, "I travel where the code calls, where anomalies beckon. Where the multiverse needs cleaned of anything that could harm it, and this place," he pauses, glancing around the stark whiteness, much like his own home, "Screamed for attention."
His gaze settles back on Cross, the colorful chaos of his form stark against the void. "You, however, are an interesting anomaly. Fighting so fiercely, clinging to existence in a world that has seemingly been erased." Error hummed, eyes still searching.

But there was a third race that was rarely known, they were known as aethers, a hybrid between the two, born when people from the two race fall in love. Decades before the monster/human war, there used to be millions of them, before the human prince ordered to have them slaughtered, leaving them a dying species. When the now king eventually waged war against the monsters, he used the rest of the living aethers to seal them underground, forcing them to give up their loved ones. Shortly after this, the aethers and the kings subjects mutinied against the evil king, putting an end to his reign, but not without great cost, as there was now only half a dozen aethers left, not enough to break the barrier. But they swore a vow, that someday, they’ll save their family and friends, along with all of monster kind. Many centuries later, on top of mount ebott, a mountain that says whoever ends up going there never returns. a young girl ends up climbing the mountain, in hopes of finding out what happened to the 7 missing children. But nothing could ever prepare her for the adventure ahead.”

Summary
Stage Two wasn't the type to get insecure; that's what they told themselves. Stage One concerned himself enough with that crap for all of them combined. So, it goes without saying that, when they whispered: "You prefer spending time with the others, don't you?" in a voice so soft, uncertain, and quiet that Color almost missed it, they hadn't meant it as an admission of their weakness, but as a statement of fact.
Stage Two knew that, among all of them, they were the most unpredictable, the least trustworthy, and the least capable of emoting. They were exactly what Chara and Nightmare had wanted them to be. A weapon ready to be wielded. A tool well attuned to all of their needs and desires. A clever little bastard with flexible morals and no real attachments, perfect to be kept as a pet.
But Color wasn't either of them.
He was soft and kind. He didn't need a weapon, a tool, a self-sufficient pet… he needed a friend. And Two wasn't built for friendship. They had none of One’s warmth, of Three’s vicious protectiveness, or of Four’s… whatever that guy had going for it.

“So,” Epic suggested, “let’s play a game.”
“What kind of game?”
“Of wit and charm.”
Intriguing. Nightmare perked up. “Oh?”
“Whoever can accurately glimpse into and freak the mind of the other wins.”
“Hm.” Nightmare mulls it over. He won’t admit it aloud, but Epic can tell by the gleam in his eyelight and the tiny wags of his tentacles that he’s intrigued. Aloud, he inquires, “The guerdons?”
Epic set his cup down. “If I win,” his smile fell, and the glacial fury of Epic’s agitated LV simmered and burned delightfully when Nightmare absorbed it. “You stay away from Killer. No contact, no reaching out through a third party, nothing.”
Before Nightmare could speak, Epic persisted. “And that includes alternate timelines.”
Nightmare continued to smirk, unaffected.
“Yeah, I know about them, and you’re not putting Killer through that shit.” Epic’s voice is as cold as verglas when he intones, “Any version of him.”
How droll. “Is that all?” Nightmare gave an unimpressed quirk of his brow. “I have no use for a traitor. What,” he taunted, “are your other companions not nearly as important?”
“It goes without saying you stay away from them. All of them.”

Summary
Nightmare never received letters.
He didn’t have any allies who may have wanted to get in contact with him, let alone friends. As a God, he was above all of that. Besides, only a select few had been allowed to learn where the AU he’d picked as his base was and how to access it, and, currently, most of them were nothing but a pile of dust in the throne room or in his ex-right-hand man's stomach.
Most, but not all.
A white envelope was sitting innocently on his mahogany desk. It was impossible to miss amidst the dark décor of the room, and, just from that, he knew who must have delivered it. Truly, only one monster had that flare for the dramatic as well as the knowledge required to pull off such a tasteless prank.
Nightmare considered throwing it away without even opening it. He approached his desk to do just that, his phalanges were hovering over the paper, goop dripping onto it staining it as he did with anything else that entered his life, when he paused. On the front of the envelope, there was one single sentence written in blood red ink: ‘You won’t do it’. Nothing else.
