Gustave awoke slowly. Morning light hit him with an unyielding wrath that had him wincing and groaning. He had not slept very well, his anxiety from the night before tumbling through him like silt in a river. Quietly to himself he began to recount events. His coat had been stolen, he was married, and his husband had claimed him.

Summary
The thing that sits in front of him is a bloody mess. A ghost oozing blood in the pale moonlight of the continent, a most terrifying hallucination, one that Verso is beginning to get used to.
It is a manifestation of his guilt, one that is not likely to go away for sometime. The thing, the man, was named Gustave. And his absence is an unfillable void, one that Verso has no choice but to take. He made that void in the first place.
He sees Gustave on quiet lonely nights, he catches glimpses of him through dense trees, and sometimes as a dark sentinel standing far away in the distance.
But tonight the ghost has joined him next to the fire of the expedition's camp.

Summary
Verso wasn't sure what he was expecting, but it wasn't this. A man.
The man at the door was naked head to toe save for a circlet of pearls that adorned his hair and others that gracefully draped across his body. A long fishnet veil covered his face and trailed out the door in mockery of a true bride. Despite the storm the man remained completely dry. There was only mud and sand caked on his feet, as if he'd been walking along the shore for a long time.
Lightning flashed again. Illuminating his brown hair, and deep warm brown eyes filled only with fury.

Summary
The wind rustled through the branches of the oak, almost like laughter. Iorveth took it as a good omen.
That is until the gentle afternoon light caught on something bright and silver a little ways away, behind the oak tree. Iorveth hopped down from the many raised roots at the base of the tree and moved toward the hidden silver thing.
It was a medallion engraved with three familiar Fleur-de-lis’s. Iorveth knew this medallion, its imperfections, its nicks, had even shot a damned arrow at it.
And here it was framed gently by a pile of yellowed bones and hollow skull.
