Summary
Not for the first time, Illuga thinks there must be something wrong with him. Maybe he’s been possessed by the Wild Hunt. Maybe the kuuvahki is finally getting to him; one too many mandragoras, or something like that.
Either way, there has to be a reason. Why else would Illuga keep letting Lohen into his bed? Why else would Illuga allow Lohen to use his body again and again, leaving Illuga with bruised skin, aching bones, and a weary heart?
‘Friends with benefits’ is a phrase he’s heard before, and it makes sense. The life of a Lightkeeper can be cold and lonely, so it’s only natural to seek warmth and comfort from another. But Illuga never expected to find himself in such an arrangement, if what they have can even be called that. Lohen’s rough treatment offers no benefits, and they certainly aren’t friends. Illuga doesn’t even like him.
This can’t possibly be what Flins had in mind when he suggested that Illuga take up a new hobby.

Summary
Lohen watches from the corner as Illuga leaves the meeting room, his gaze resting just a moment too long on the empty doorway.
“You know,” Nikita says casually, standing up as he gathers the remaining reports from the table. “Most people just talk to the person they like instead of stalking them.”
Lohen looks away at once. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he replies stiffly.
The Starshyna gives him an odd, sidelong glance. “Really. And what about the Wild Hunt corpses you leave piled outside of Cliffwatch Camp everyday?”
Lohen tilts his head ever so slightly, feigning ignorance. “What are you talking about?”

Summary
He had been powerless. Weak. With no one to defend him. So he had to grow into his own protector, spending years honing his power and abilities, by whatever means necessary. Yet it wasn’t enough.
It would never be enough.
Not in a world with true protagonists, favored by fate itself. Not in a world with powerful villains, whose destructiveness must be shown at the expense of the side characters.
Not in a world where he was one such side character.

Summary
The nightmares have gotten more frequent.
This is something Lohen has dealt with for almost his entire life after the incident. They became manageable as he got older but sometimes he couldn’t help but fall back into that spiral again.
Something has been in the air ever since he got to Nod-Krai. He chalked it up to being the influence of the Wild Hunt and the Rächer of Solnari.
