When her friends show up at her door with a bag full of unwarranted gifts, she’s forced to look into herself and learn a few things, and she realizes she has the greatest friends in the world.

Amity Blight has had a terrible, terrible week. First she ruins her sleep schedule and she can't find a way to fix it. Then, she's stacked with too much coursework to even dream of relaxing. She lost her wallet at some point, and if she dares show up to work without her keycard she'll be fired.
Oh, and now there's a creepy stalker who knows too much about her personal life texting her.
Everything is just awful.
So why is this weird annoying girl knocking on her door at 11pm who claims to be part of campus security somehow the highlight of her week? Why is she kind of familiar, and why is she asking so many invasive questions? Most importantly, why didn't Amity just shut the door on her face when she had the chance?

She held onto the hope that things would be okay, but the moment she found Luz standing in the living room, staring out the window, she knew nothing was right. Luz had asked her, once, to do something difficult to save them both. Now Amity isn’t quite sure she can go through with it.

Beautiful short story about depression. Wonderfully encapsulates the undefinable emotions surrounding depression, and uses brilliant wordplay to create an emotional image that is both provoking and deeply personal. Amazing read.

“Mittens, you look horrible...”
“Thanks,” Amity shot back, but her voice was too weak for it to actually sound sassy. She looked like she was on the verge of tears. “I overslept. I’m going to be late...”
Amity looked so unbearably guilty.
“You’re not seriously considering going to school today!” Emira protested. It wasn’t as surprising as she wished it had been. This was just what Mittens was like, courtesy of the massive amount of pressure their parents put on all of them. Emira felt like her heart was being ripped out of her chest as she watched her little sister struggle to stand, still insisting on going to school because she didn’t want to disappoint their parents. “Mittens, please go back to bed.”
“‘M fine,” Amity insisted, slowly removing her hand from the bed and taking a couple unsteady steps forward as if to prove her point.
Then, just like that, she collapsed in the middle of the bedroom.

She could swear she was about to swoon, when her brain yanked her back from the clouds. Had she really thought this through? It’s one thing to have a little fun alone, but with another person? With Luz, a human, nonetheless? Was she ready?
