Summary
Shang Qinghua, an injured and hungry merman, is found by Cang Qiong Marine Research and taken in to be treated and healed.
It just so happens that he's just what they need to begin their merfolk breeding program; and they've got quite a list of mates to pair him up with for their research- after all, Shang Qinghua's species is known to be able to breed with nearly any species of merfolk there is.
(Or, the one where merman Shang Qinghua will be bred for the sake of dubious science, whether he wants to or not.)

Chris didn’t do the summer reading.
Why would he? FAE 200 was barely a gen ed in his course schedule, which meant easy tests and even easier homework. He planned on sitting in the back of the huge lecture hall, blending in with the hundreds of other students, and getting an easy A.
The professor looked like a pushover too--tall, even for an elf, and thin. His robes were stuffy and academic, covering him from his neck down to his ankles, and he glided along with an in-human grace, barely even bobbing with each step. His long, pointed ears extended over the top of his head, his straight silver hair falling on either side, and they twitched in irritation as he settled in front of the desk at the front of the lecture hall and turned to observe the clamoring crowd of students.

Chris Marshall didn't mean to come to such a diverse university and isn't used to being the only human in a class full of fantasy races. His learning curve becomes much steeper than he anticipated when his first Elven teacher curses a fleshlight to connect to his ass without his knowledge, sharing it with the rest of the faculty and teaching him the hard way how important it is to be open minded.

Mimics are a diverse family of monsters, with many strategies of predarion and reproduction. This particular species is a forest dweller, a tree mimic, as two sets of travelers discover… and the ones that survive contact get to find out how it reproduces.
