  1. Summary

Grian is a pretentious experimental techno music production girlie, and has absolutely no interest in spending time with Scar, a woman who's music taste seems to extend about as far as radio top 20 hits and will get famous anyway cause she's hot, has a nice voice and can play guitar. Too bad Scar needs someone to master her auditioning EP.

  2. Summary

A series of prompt fills for the Hot Scarian Summer 2024 event, most of these were written stupidly late after the event's conclusion, but I still wanted to complete the set as a personal writing goal.

Final word count (because only Chapter 1 of Murder Most Timeless counts towards the event ) : 31,801 words

YOU HAVE BEEN PAIRED WITH SCAR GOODTIMES

You’ve got to be kidding me.

He looked to his far left, to where a tall, broad man with green eyes and brown hair stood in the center of the line, staring at his communicator, blinking. He looked up. “Which one of you is Grain?” he asked.

Grian’s eye twitched. “Grian,” he said, stepping forward. “It’s Grian.”

// or, the 3rd Life Love Island au. But if you get voted out, you die. It's just that none of them know that yet -- except for Grian.

    Summary

Bike purring, nerves reeling, Grian’s fingers rested unsteadily on the throttle. His bike bucked with the impatience of a racehorse ready to tear free of the derby gates.

    “Racers, ready?”

    Finally, he opened his eyes.

    Summary

“Hey now, I returned your lanterns fair and square,” Scar comments.

“Yet, somehow, my pumpkin patch—which was once very spawn-proof, I’ll have you know—hosts a zombie rave every night.” Lizzie comes just short of brushing her fingertips against the petals of a still-standing sunflower. The ink streaked beneath her skin and petal’s darkened veins are near-identical. They stain one and the same under the clear blue sky.

Scar shrugs, spade in hand. His shoulders ache. He much prefers tending to the sunflowers he cultivates for oil or company than he does the ones he uses to coax wither residue from out of and around the leftover craters. “So, maybe I kept one for the porch. In my defense, I didn’t think you’d be needing it anytime soon. Do mobs even go after you anymore?”

There’s a storm brewing on the horizon. Scar elects to ignore it.

    Summary

This game is chaos, all frenzied motion and the rubberband snap of respawn, burnishing coils of bubbling potential energy that build, build, until it all bursts to kinesis. Scar’s very blood boils in his ears; when a hyena-cackle slices the air, followed by stumbling bootsteps on the abandoned roof above, his heart constricts until it squeezes right up between his teeth.

Scar’s weapon snaps up and around, quivering tension, as his eyes spin to meet—

    Ah.

    Grian.

Or: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

    Summary

The bruise spreading across Grian’s face was swollen red, bound to darken into a black eye. He’d taken the blow like a champ, blinking away tears with a grimace like he’d swallowed a lemon slice, and he had bags under his eyes, clothes that weren’t his favorite sweaters or his uniform.

Scar couldn’t take his eyes off him. If Scar spoke right now, with his hand burning from the impact, it wouldn’t come out very smoothly, would it? Not the least bit reassuring, and if anyone needed reassurance, it was his friend here. He schooled his face, reminded himself where the words would have to start inside his mouth to come out clear.

Having to remind himself he was allowed to speak without prompting was definitely not a bad sign, and he didn’t mind it in the least.
