Summary
When Reyna turned to investigate the cause of her limited hand movement and the weight on her shoulder, maybe expecting some sort of monster holding her in place—why had that been her first thought?—she instead, inexplicably, found a girl dozing on her shoulder.
They were holding hands, like a couple might. Reyna might not remember much, but she didn’t think that was the sort of situation she usually found herself in.
“Mmph? Reyna?” the girl muttered, still half-asleep. Reyna’s sudden movement must have woken her. “Are we there yet?”
Something about her was both dizzyingly familiar and Reyna was also sure she had never seen her before in her life.
“Are we… where yet?”
A boy in the row in front of them turned at that and snapped a finger in front of Reyna’s face.
“The Grand Canyon?” he said, an eyebrow raised. “Get it together, hermana. You’ve already failed a few too many tests because you’re so busy getting lost in Piper’s eyes.”

Summary
After her unpaid full-time job of Vampire Slayer lead to a few too many wrecked cars and a burnt-down school gym, Piper McLean finds herself getting shipped off to her mum’s home in Sunnydale, California.
Between the Council threatening a tighter leash, sharing the house with a nosy half-sister and a town that quickly reveals itself to be even more monster-infested than LA, things don’t seem exactly promising.
But it turns out Sunnydale has more to offer than the regular occupational hazards of vampires roaming the graveyard at night and the occasional dead guy shoved into a locker. Between the utter absurdity of her newly assigned Watcher and two amateur vampire hunters who are vastly more effective at nearly getting themselves killed on the job than they are at hunting vampires, Piper finds her usual solo act suddenly turning into a group project.
Worse: despite her previous Watcher’s warnings, she isn’t sure she minds all that much.

Summary
Every year, without fail, Piper managed to forget just how annoying her seasonal allergies were right up until they ambushed her out of nowhere once again.
The hike she and her girlfriend were currently taking through the forest wasn’t helping, either.
Granted, if Piper had been reasonable, she would have known better than to brave the great outdoors at all today. The second she’d entered the common room with its open window this morning, she’d burst into a loud, lengthy sneezing fit that had started Leo so hard he’d nearly fallen out of his chair.
But Piper wasn’t reasonable, especially not when it came to Reyna sweetly asking her if she’d like to tag along with her and the dogs.

Summary
Jason has been dead for three months. Piper still dreams about cradling his body to her chest every other night.
The fact of the matter is this: in the past year, she’s watched both of her best friends die, and being unable to reach Leo on Jason’s birthday is kind of pushing her over the edge.
Unwilling to shoulder everything on her own, she sends an Iris Message.Reyna has been a Hunter for three months. In a way, distancing herself from New Rome helps. But what little closure she has isn’t enough to prepare her for dealing with Jason’s birthday on her own.
The fact of the matter is this: she lost her best friend almost two years ago. He has only been dead for three months.
Unwilling to spend the day by herself, she answers an Iris Message.Walking through the streets of New Rome and remembering the boy they’ve loved and lost, they figure out that some feelings are easier faced in tandem.

This guide is aimed at beginners with the intention of trying to break down the process so it is less overwhelming. It is, as all guides are, highly biased to what worked for me when I was starting out. If you find it doesn't work for you, I absolutely recommend trying out one of the many different guides out there!
My number one recommendation is: just go for it! Things are less complicated than you think. There are a hundred of extra bells and whistles you can start adding on once you're ready, but try and keep it dead simple for your first one.

Unbidden, the ring’s history swam to the front of her mind. Goddesses didn’t frequent Circe’s Island, and war goddesses least of all, but Bellona had come one day. Whether it was for strategy or magic or simply a trip to the spa, Hylla never knew, but her mother had stood before her, ten feet tall and glowing. She didn’t smile, but she nodded at Hylla and slipped a ring off her pinky and into Hylla’s cupped hands. Hylla had taken it with quiet thanks and reverence and shown it to Reyna that night in their dorm and told her about the encounter. Reyna had stared at it, eyes wide and shining in wonder, and in an instant, Hylla knew what to do. She took the ring out of her palm and put it on Reyna’s thumb. It didn’t quite fit, but Hylla knew they could make it tighter later with string.
“Are you sure?” Reyna had asked, cradling her hand to her chest like she was worried Hylla might take it.
Hylla had reached out and pulled her forward until their foreheads touched. “I’ve never been more sure of anything. Take care of it, hermana.”
Now that same ring was in Hylla’s hands again after being delivered by the very demigod who had destroyed Circe’s Island.

Leo sat straight up in bed with a harsh, ragged gasp. He could feel the ghost of chemicals burning his throat, and the affectionate yank of claws in his curls. He forced his eyes to focus on the scratchy bedspread beneath his clenched fists. He started counting in Spanish, shoving the terrified sounds past clenched teeth, just so he wouldn’t forget the shape of them on his tongue. He wasn’t twelve anymore, he was fifteen. He wasn’t with Teresa, hadn’t seen her in years, he was at Wilderness school. And yet, even now with all his desperate self assurances, his eyes still stung, and he forced the tears to stay back.
“Leo?”
Leo froze for a split second before he whipped his head up and silently cursed himself for being so, so stupid. Of course he’d forgotten about Piper. He’d gone and made a commotion and now she was sitting in her little bunk across the room, staring at him like he was a science fair project.

Leo wakes up from a nightmare. Piper asks remarkably few questions, and the ones she does ask are the only ones that matter.

So, it was weapons, but not any weapons, just Medieval weapons from Europe. He could work with that.
Only, he couldn’t work with that. Not really. Knowing about her Thing was one thing, but getting Reyna, who famously made clams look loose-lipped, to actually open up about it was a whole new ballgame. And it wasn’t like Leo didn’t know what he was doing! He could get anyone to start talking about their Thing with ease. All he had to do was compliment an archway on a walk with Annabeth, ponder the use of a saddle pommel as Hazel dressed her horse, hum the Shire theme during a study session with Percy, or show Piper a tweet wondering what happened to the star of some Disney Channel original movie. He could also get Jason going, of course, but that didn’t count because all anyone had to do was think about Rome a little too hard in front of him and he’d be off like a bottle rocket. Frank was harder, considering Leo didn’t know anything about animation techniques from the 1960s, but even he was willing to play ball when Leo soft tossed it to him.
Not Reyna, though.

Every demigod had A Thing. That one subject that itched their brain, that lit their spark. Even Reyna.
Leo just had to find it
