“What are you doing?”
“Percy! Hi!” Brainstorm’s voice is a note too high, just a hint too desperate, for the attempt at casual he’s clearly trying for. He turns, leaning on the window like he wasn’t just trying to pull it open, and incidentally proving Perceptor’s speculation behind the reasons for all of this correct in the process. “I’m just, uh… testing the, uh…”
He looks around the room like it’ll give him an excuse, but there isn’t one to be found. Hesitantly, Perceptor takes a step toward him, but stops when it makes Brainstorm balk like a trapped animal. “Brainstorm. Tell me why you’re bleeding.”
Brainstorm's latest invention puts him in a rough spot; go to the medics for help and have his recently-lax freedoms restricted for committing science unsupervised in his habsuite, or let Perceptor help him instead, when said help just so happens to require baring his spark.

“Hey,” he manages. The hope had been for nonchalance. Brainstorm wanted to sound cool, perhaps a little unbothered by the situation. He misses the mark by a large margin and instead his voice comes out airy, almost in awe. Brainstorm resets his vocalizer for a second attempt. “Come here often?” Yeah, okay. He lets his head flop back to the berth underneath him and fixes his gaze on the ceiling.
“More than I wish I did,” is the reply he gets.

There were a lot of days where Ratchet's body didn't feel his own.
Late nights when his plating was so indescribably awful that he found himself just barely resisting the urge to tear it off and drown himself in boiling hot solvent; early mornings where the dusty blanket slipped off the cracked old mirror in the corner and he just wanted to shatter the mirror further, punch it until it split into shards too small to see himself in - and the pain of splintering glass worming itself into the hands that weren't even his was only a benefit.
