Work Text:
Shane woke up not knowing exactly where he was. The bed was soft and cozy, with a silky comforter draped low on his waist. He hadn't opened his eyes yet, but he could tell that the room was lowly lit, so it as probably early morning. The pillow pressing on his left cheek smelled fresh, a bit like caramel and lightly like sweat from a good night's sleep and he could feel with his right hand the other pillow across the bed, still warm, like some other body had just gotten up from it. He opened his eyes, stretched his arms and rose his head and chest from his position. With his eyes barely open, Shane looked around the bedroom, noticing the sunshine sweeping form the shades on the huge windows across the room, a ray of light catching the glint of the ring on his left hand. He glanced at it for a few seconds, still not used to its sweet weight on his finger.
He turned around, siting straight and swung his legs of the bed. His stomach was a little upset, mouth dry, tasting weird and his head had a light throb to it. Definitely a hungover, even if he tried to be mindful of how much he drank last night. The effects from the champagne had to come someway or another. Shane looked around the room, ignoring his tummy twisting and turning, trying to find Ilya.
The door to the ensuite was closed, but the light behind the door was off. The bedroom door was slightly opened, although no sound was entering from it. The house was perfectly quiet, apart from the sound of trees blowing on the wind, the water running on the lake and a few birds chirping around the cottage. Shane got up, pulling boxers and reaching for some shorts on the dresser. He stayed shirtless, already feeling the warmth of the day on his skin. It was July after all.
Shane reached for the doorknob and as he opened the bedroom door, the nice smell of coffee reached his senses. Pad-footing down the hallway, the cool wooden floorboards a sharp contrast to the July heat, Shane followed the faint, unmistakable smell of brewing coffee. He slowly went down the stairs, trying to make no sound at all and stops at the threshold viewing the kitchen. He could see Ilya by the counter, wearing nothing but gray sweatpants, his hair a mess of golden curls and his strong back doted with moles, looking like a fucking Greek God. He was pouring black coffee in one of the mugs (the other probably filled with milk and sugar) and Shane could see a sweating glass of water and some Advil waiting on the counter. Ilya probably knew that Shane would wake up with a champagne hungover.
He stayed still a few more moments, just admiring his husband (HUSBAND!!!!). Ilya, however, must have felt someone looking at him, because he turned his face and opened a huge smile the second his eyes landed on Shane.
"How come I woke up all alone on my first day married?" Shane said, slowly smiling as well. His voice was a bit rough, but soft and lovey. Shane felt soft all over, love seeping from his pores.
"Thought I would be a nice husband and get you something for your hungover. How is your head, by the way?" Ilya answered lowly, making his way up to Shane.
"Who said I have a hungover?"
"Oh солнышко, I know you very well. All those two glasses of champagne you had last night must be killing you."
With a smug smile playing on his lips, Ilya reached for Shane, a hand slipping at his waist as the other cuped his jaw. Leaning close, Ilya rested his lips on Shane's temple, softly kissing his hurting head. His headache immediately mitigated and Shane closed his eyes, leaning at the touch. Shane let out a soft huff against Ilya's skin, his arms automatically looping around his neck, pulling him close.
"Shut up," Shane mumbled, thought there was no heat to it. "It was good champagne. It's an expensive hungover and I definitely had more than two glasses!"
Shane leaned his weight fully into Ilya, letting his eyes stay closed while his husband held him. Ilya gently steered them over to the kitchen counter and handed him the water and Advil. Shane toke a small sip from the glass and feels better the moment the cool water drips down his throat. He hummed, feeling Ilya's strong hands caressing the hairs of Shane's nape, while he tookthe Advil and drinks the rest of the water.
They stand there together, leaning against the counter. Shane looked out the window, admiring the water capturing the sun, while Ilya looked at Shane.
"What time is it?" Shane asked, lowly.
"I don't know," Ilya answered. "And I don"t care," he added, his voice soft as he pressed another slow, lingering kiss right into the crook of Shane's neck. His breath was warm against Shane's skin, his sent so sweet, so familiar, so, so Ilya, that Shane couldn't help but melt against the touch.
"We have nowhere to be, right?"
"Right. Time doesn't matter right now."
Shane let out a low hum of agreement, the tension completely draining from his solders. For years, their lives had been governed by strict schedules, alarms, and the constant, suffocating fear of the wrong person seeing them together. Of course, they had the cottage for the last past years, and they had been out for a little time, but old habits die hard and Shane was not used to feeling this free.
He leaned back against Ilya's chest, enjoying the solid weight of his husband behind him. He raised his left hand, turning it slightly to alow to morning sun to caught the silver band fully.
"Still feels kind of weird," Shane murmured, thought his heart did a bunch of happy little flips at the sight of it "Been able to wear it all the time."
"Well, get used to it, малыш, because if it is up to me, you will never take it off."
Ilya reached around, his hand covering Shane's, his thumb rubbing right over the ring. Shane could see both their ring fingers laced together and pulled both hands to his lips, kissing Ilya's.
Ilya squeezed Shane's hand, then nudged his shoulder towards the two steaming mugs on the counter.
"Now, take your coffee. Let's go watch the lake before the day gets too hot. We have much to talk about yesterday." He added, raising his eyebrows.
It was a weird, amazing feeling, all this happiness and love swimming around his bones. Shane had never, in all of his life time, allowed himself to dream of this very moment. But that was, now and forever, his life.
