Colorful Coma

Summary:

Heyyyy! I wanted to write something to cope with episode 9. That being said...IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED THEN DON'T READ THIS FIC. Keep in mind I'm just writing this for myself so it's not going to be perfect. I hope you enjoy it anyways!

Pomni struggles with the loss of Jax, trying to cope with regular visits and hanging out with the rest of the cast but nothing feels the same without him.

Chapter Text

It hadn’t been long since Caine finally decided to give them free will. It drastically improved the air of the whole circus, given that they weren’t actually real. Though, that didn’t change the feeling of being alive. They had all very much pretended that the information was fake. In the real world they had lives, tossing off the worry of not becoming who they wanted to be or being unfulfilled. Now they just had to make this place into their home.
Pomni visited Jax regularly. Actually, it was hard not to see the small jester making her way into the den they created for the jumbled up cast member. She brought him food and simply just spoke to him as if he was the same normal rabbit she knew him for. It wasn’t the same. It could never be the same for all she knew but that didn’t stop her. She had her own way of coping with the loss and that was talking to this version of him. She was hoping that one day he would snap out of it, if that was even possible.
He wasn’t aggressive. At least, not with her. The others weren’t able to talk like this with him or much less touch him. He would go into a fit with Pomni having to calm him down.
And today was no different. She looked up at the large pillow fort with a smile on her face. This time she brought some cookies and his favorite, hot chocolate. She hummed lightly as she made her way through the entrance and looked around silently. Her gaze finally fell on this monstrous version of her friend. Her eyes softened at the sight of him sleeping soundly. She made her way over, sitting down beside him and leaning against the abstracted rabbit. He didn’t seem to mind, his breathing moving back and forth calmly. Caine had somehow managed to alter the coding so she wouldn’t have to worry about getting hurt by touching him.
She reached her hand up to pet him on the side. He had slightly leaned into the touch, a faint purring heard through the midst of breathing. A small chuckle came from the jester and she simply closed her eyes to the sound of it. It didn’t take long before she was lulled to sleep. He was okay and so were the others. The stress and anxiety had finally left her body after all of this time, her hands folded in her lap in her slumber. A few hours would pass before she finally woke up. It was strange though. She felt oddly warm. Her eyes opened some to Jax’s body curled around her own. Looks like the rabbit had grown quite protective over the small jester. Her expression warmed up, petting his head before leaning up and pressing a kiss to his forehead.
That had done the trick of waking him up. His eyes opened, scanning around the room frantically until they had all fallen onto Pomni. He had relaxed in a matter of seconds. He shook out his body some after waking up as if he had actual fur to do that with. A small chirping sound was heard, not long after him nuzzling his face into Pomni’s side. She giggled some. “You’re affectionate today, huh?” She teased, reaching up to pet behind his abstracted ears. He had somehow managed to create a bunny-like shape out of the abstraction. It was a sign of progress that made Pomni’s heart melt.
She let out a small hum, pointing towards the cookies and hot chocolate. “I brought you a little snack. I didn’t really know what you wanted..since..y’know..you can’t really talk, heh..” She muttered the last phrase awkwardly. “I-in any case, I know you like the hot chocolate from the café!” She smiled brightly, pulling the plate and mug over to the two of them. She lifted one up for Jax to take out of her hand. He looked at her and then the cookie, leaning down to lightly fetch it out of her palm. His ears suddenly perked up and after a few seconds, he scarfed down some of the other cookies on the plate. Of course, he left a few for Pomni. He nudged the dish towards Pomni and rubbed his face against her cheek.
“Oh, are those for me? How kind of you.” She lightly teased, giggling at the affection. She scratched his cheek before settling down again and nibbling on one of the cookies. Her expression fell while she stared off. “I miss talking to you. I mean, how we used to.” She spoke quietly, leaning into the abstracted rabbit. “Minus the smartass part.” She laughed weakly. Her gaze landed on his face and she couldn’t help but get a little choked up. Her hand lifted to cup his, pressing their foreheads together with a shaky sigh. “You’re a jerk. Abstracting like this on me.” There was no venom in her tone of course. It was more like heartbreak. She pulled back to stare at his colorful eyes, her thumb caressing his sharp pointed cheeks. “Oh! I uh..found this in your room. I know you probably don’t want me going in there but I figured you’d wanna have it.” She lifted her other hand to present a bow. The same bow that familiar frog used to wear.
Jax’s eyes widened for a moment, seemingly debating whether or not to take it. Eventually though, he lowered his head and gave a gentle nudge to the small jester. She looked a little confused at first until she registered. “Do you..want to wear it?” She asked quietly, getting a nod in return. Her expression softened while she reached up and gingerly clipped it onto his abstracted ear. A small smile formed on her face while she stared at the bow and eventually moved down to his face. She suddenly tensed at her name being called. She looked backwards, her gaze falling back to Jax again. “Welp..that’s my cue.” She chuckled. She reached her hand up, running her fingers along his cheek before giving it a soft kiss. “I’ll visit you after, okay?” She murmured. She reluctantly stood up to make her way back to the tent’s entrance. One more glance was given until she fully left.
