Ilya sighs, Shane looks over and puts his book on the nightstand, “Go check their rooms.” Shane gets up immediately and Ilya can hear Shane open up their son's rooms. Shane enters the room again and gets his phone out of the drawer.
“I hope you’re happy, Dad and Papa are on the way now.”
“Huh?”
“Jeez, how much did you drink?”
Alex knows exactly how much his brother drank, he was the one stuffing cup after cup of different drinks into his brother's hand. Alex had just wanted one night of pure fun before they left for college, was that too much to ask? Now they were busted for sneaking out, underage drinking, and Alex was super busted for getting his brother batshit drunk.
The drive back is mostly just Shane talking, but none of it really seems to be absorbing. Niko is slouched across the left and middle seats while Alex stays upright in the right seat, Ilya has been drowning out the conversation, he’s mostly in need of a good night's rest after spending the day at Ally’s schools bake sale.
“- just so irresponsible, what if something happened to you guys. What if you ended up in a ditch and we didn’t even know until the morning when we saw your empty beds. Not to mention, Niko, you are drunk! This isn’t like you, what on Earth caused you to do something like this.”
Alex interjects, “Dad, it wasn’t his fault, I asked him to have a drink.”
“A drink? This doesn’t look like the work of a singular drink.” Alex wanted to sink into his seat and never come back out.
“Moya lyubov, maybe we can discuss this tomorrow, the boys are tired, Niko doesn’t even look like he’s with us right now.”
“What do you mean?” Shane tries to look at the back seats of the car but his puffer jacket is making his movement restricted. “Like alcohol poisoning? Alex check-”
Ilya interrupts him, putting his hand on Shane’s shoulder and squeezing it. “He is fine, just needs quiet and sleep.”
“Fine, we discuss this tomorrow. But just know you’re both in so much trouble” Shane is gripping on the steering wheel with such force that Ilya worries he could actually leave a dent, but he isn’t going to try and stop Shane from getting his anger out somehow.
