Chapter Text
And suddenly dozens of huge, sickly yellow looking eyeballs are watching him. Following every one of his steps as he backs up.
A giant one- The biggest of them all, appears in the front. Materializes out of thin air, making him stumble backwards.
This is the King. You shall bow down to him!
His mind screams.
“No. This is all for Avery" He thinks, rising to his full height against the one who's been behind this all.
–
Avery Or in all his glory, and the stupid flower shirt. Avery. He steps forward. Not convinced or scared of him.
There's a fierce burn in his eyes. Determination. Resilience.
Derek grits his teeth. Every word Avery says vibrates through his skull.
'There has to be another way, Derek. Please. There has to. Please, Derek” he whispers, the sword limp in his hand.
“Avery you cant stay here. You have your whole life left to live” Derek grits out, eyes narrowing behind his helmet. His hand makes contact with Avery’s shoulder. A push.
Avery bristles, before spitting out
“And I owe it to you!”
Derek steps back. Once, twice. Boots crunching on the rubble.
“No. You dont”
He contemplates his next words. The man in front of him is strange. Not backing down without a fight. Not giving up. Not taking a chance to save his own life, instead wanting to stay. Derek’s cheeks flush red. Avery is set to help him defeat the king. But it's foolish of him.
That's what the king wants. To have a chance to get a grasp on the boy in front of him.
Yes. Still a boy. Derek wouldn't say hes older than 17.
“Avery. If you don't go, we’ll both die” Derek says, voice calm and cold as his eyes narrow in the slits of his helmet. He sees Avery tense up. Slowly, but surely. The adrenaline leaves his system, brain finally kicking back in. The other stumbles back, eyes wide. His chest heaves up and down.
“Its okay. You might not even remember me when you’re out of here” he ads, voice soft as Avery stares down at his feet.
…
“Im staying”
“You are”
“I wont leave you here”
“You won’t”
Avery steps forward. A new wave of confidence. Their eyes meet. Maybe for the first time. Derek doesn't remember.
But Avery does.
He catches D3rlord3’s gaze. In the library he couldn't actually see the other's eyes – shielded by his golden helmet.
But now. He can.
Avery’s breath catches in his throat. Heart flutters. A butterfly trashes around in his stomach.
Derek's eyes are golden. Maybe they weren't before. But they are now. As golden as the gold fragments on the floor. Avery looks off for a moment.
He swears he's blushing.
Derek inches closer. He lifts his helmet.
Avery chokes.
Fuck fate, fuck universe, fuck whatever paralel hes in right now. Derek is-
He’s-
Avery swallows.
Derek moves closer.
Dirty blonde hair mussed by the headpiece. There's a red line on the bridge of his nose where it rested. Freckles line his cheeks. He looks pale, tired, but–
Beautiful
The blonde grabs his bicep. His chin in the other hand. His maroon glove is rough against his skin.
Derek.
He pulls Avery in.
Messily. Quickly. A ‘remember me’.
Avery grabs his shoulder, arm, whatever part of his body he can.
Derek tastes like blood. Copper and heavy on his tongue. But Avery does not care. He pulls the man close.
“Avery” Derek mutters, pushing him away.
Avery stumbles, woozy from the kiss.
“What's in your pocket?” Derek asks, idly wiping his lip with his glove.
Avery raises his eyebrow. Looks down at the pockets of his cargo pants.
But then, he's being pushed back. Strong hands against his middle.
He loses his footing. Rocks and old stairs giving up under his weight
“Until later, friend”
Plummeting into the dark void, he sees Derek's face staring back. His jaw is clenched tight. Eyes red. A hand over his lips.
“Derek”
Avery screams as the blackness engulfs him whole.
