Work Text:
John has been rather miserable since his divorce.
He filled his life to the brim with missions, killing after killing. He took it out on each target, deaths being more violent than they needed to be. At least these were people who deserved it, he figured that made it okay.
He had calmed down now that he was with the thunderbolts. People who weren't afraid to humble him at every turn, he definitely started to realize his errors. More than before.
Bob was miserable before the thunderbolts too.
An addict, who only got superpowers chasing another high. Even with the team, it wasn't always easy. Though they made it significantly better. He was clean and he had a home. While being at home most of the time with his dangerous powers, he'd taken on most of the house work. Though John would sometimes scold him for trying to do the dishes, as, “it was his chore.”
They started to get along better now that John had seen what Bob went through in the void rooms. It made the blonde man understand him more, having his own issues with his parents.
There was always a tension between them now. They understood each other, and had gotten closer. Bob was always in the kitchen while John cooked. John changed his routine to train the same time Bob did, spotting for each other. Grocery runs were a together thing too. Bob would grab quick meals for himself that John would insist on throwing back.
A ramen packet? “I can make you ramen, and make it better.” Maybe a quick pizza? ”Bob, I could make homemade pizza in my sleep.” Microwavable chicken strips? ”Put those back and go get me some chicken breasts. The organic ones." Bob didn't really complain when he tasted the food John made.
Still, John was too arrogant for Bob.
And Bob was too infuriatingly sweet for John.
Then, July 10th rolls around. John's birthday. No one seems to notice, but really, he didn't mind. When everyone was bored and lazy in the living room, he spoke up. “It's my birthday. Why don't we order a cake?" He says, not even looking up from his phone. Everyone looks at him. They felt a little bad, but- John Walker, the most ego centric man they knew- not making a big deal out of his birthday?
Alexei speaks up. “Ey, why you not tell us your birthday!? We are team now. We must celebrate.” He stands and walks to the calendar, starting to mark everyone's date.
John shakes his head. “Not that big of a deal. I just want to do something." He stands. “I'll bake a cake, actually.”
He heads to the kitchen and gets out everything he needs, humming as he works. Bob comes into the kitchen soon after. "Can I help with anything?” He asks.
John bit his lip. Helpful little Bob. "You can lick the spoon.” He says gruffly, not wanting his process to be interrupted.
Bob rolls his eyes. Arrogant old John. “I'll keep you company." He says, sitting at the kitchen table. He watched John work, peacefully. He enjoyed it, honestly, watching John make food was better than anything on TV. He was clean and precise.
The cake is about to go into the oven when Bob sees John's phone go off not too far from him on the table. He noticed his lock screen, a picture of his son the day he was born. It warmed Bob's heart. “Hey, uh, Olivia is calling."
John quickly turns to his phone, picking it up. It was a FaceTime call. "Liv, what's up? You alright?"
Olivia chuckles at his franticness. " Of course it was okay. Just wanted to say happy birthday, John.” John smiles softly. Before he can respond, his son yells. "Happy birthday, Daddy!”
John chuckles. "Thanks, buddy. I love you two.” He says gently.
Olivia nods. "I have to get him to daycare, but have a good day, John. Love you too." His son smiles and waves at the camera. “Bye daddy! I love you!"
As the phone call ends, Bob notices John's personality slowly going back to quiet and reserved. He reaches out, slowly, placing a hand on the man's arm. John walks out of the grip, back to the oven. “Have you ever even had a girlfriend, Bob?" John asks. Always with the arrogance.
Bob rolls his eyes. "I've definitely been with more women than you have. Men too.” He shoots back. John paused for a moment. He didn't realize Bob liked men. Not that he cared, he just never thought about it.
“You probably have. Definitely more men." John says, closing the oven and sitting across from Bob. “... Can I ask, how many?"
Bob shrugs. “My body count? Who knows. High." John's eyes get a bit wide, but Bob doesn't care. Really, he wasn't going to judge his own past, and John wasn't exactly a saint, right?
“... High?"
“Yeah, High. A high number. I mean… Probably was high during, most of the time." He mumbles, glancing at his wrists.
John just bit his lip. The two of them really were opposites. “... Mine is.. one. But, actually, I meant how many people you've dated, Bob. Which is still one for me.”
Bob's face goes flush. "Oh, yeah. Of course you did." He grumbles. “Uh…I dunno. Maybe three people." His turn to pause was then. “You've only ever been with Olivia?" John shrugs. "Were you waiting for marriage?”
The other man chuckles. "Uh, no. I just…happened to get it right the first time. We were together in high school through… ‘till about last year.” His voice starts to fade at the end of the sentence.
Bob reached out for John's hand. “I'm sure it's not easy.”
John shakes his head. "I know it was hard. For her too. But, I mean- we'd been fighting for awhile, y'know.. We'll always love each other. But it's different now. Romantically, it's over.” He says.
"That's a pretty mature response.” Bob replies.
John squeezes the boy's hand a bit. “Been going to therapy. Meditating. It's not as useless as I thought it would be.." Bob just smiles softly. The two sit in silence for a while, hands intertwined. They looked into each other's eyes, a feeling of… Understanding, maybe. They'd both been through things, even if those things were wildly different.
They weren't really thinking about it until Yelena walked in. “... Am I interrupting something?" She asks. They quickly pull their hands away from each other.
“No, you're not." John grumbles, pulling out his phone. Bob reached for an apple on the counter. Yelena just shakes her head and grabs a drink from the fridge, leaving.
The two men sit in silence, except for Bob chewing his apple. John's eyes flick over to Bob for a few minutes before he speaks again. “So you're bi?"
Bob swallows the honey crisp, and John can't help but watch his Adam's apple as he did. "I mean, yeah, sure..” He shrugs. "... Is that a problem?”
"No.” John says quickly. "Just… never thought about it. Never really had time to experiment, myself." God, why did I say that? He thinks to himself.
The brunette looks over at him, leaning a bit closer. "Maybe you should… Experiment." He says quickly.
John leans in too, swallowing spit that was pooling in his mouth. “Yeah? How?" Bob kisses him before he can think. It doesn't go anywhere past lips, but John can taste the sugar of the apple. Neither of them pulled away for a long time. When the oven beeps John jumps back. There's a small pause before He stands and walks over, taking out the cake. He crossed his arms over himself.
Bob just kissed me. And I kissed Bob back.
I just kissed John. The most annoying man on earth and I kissed him.
John is conflicted. He's never felt love for a man, or really anyone but Olivia. But- a man? God, he can't imagine what his father would think. Especially since he liked it. He turned to speak but Bob had already run off.
Bob quickly walked past everyone in the living room to his bedroom. He couldn't believe he just did that. His teammate. His teammate who was annoying and arrogant. His teammate who was getting over his divorce, who had a son. What was he thinking? Why did he like it so much?
John just sits alone in the kitchen, waiting for the cake to cool. He frosts it, laying sprinkles on it too. “Cakes done!" He calls out. The rest of the team comes in, wishing John happy birthday and giving him gifts they collected on a whim. They all gave him rather generic gifts, obviously, they had to rush to the store to get these things. Muscle shirts from Bucky, cooking tools from Ava, a pack of his favorite beer from Yelena, and Alexei gave him a “free limo ride" coupon. He smiles, thanks everyone, then grabs a piece of cake to take to Bob.
He knocks on Bob's door. Waits. Knocks again. Then he barges in, making Bob jump. He was sitting in his bed, hands in his lap. He looks away. “I'm sorry I did that, John.” He says meekly.
John shakes his head, raising his hand to give Bob the cake. When he flinches John glares. “I'd never hurt you, Bobby. I'm not mad." The blonde says softly. He sits close enough to Bob that their thighs would touch if they moved. Bob takes the plate and eats.
“Thanks, John… you're a great cook, and baker.” Bob says. John leans back and watches him eat, though he's pretending he's on his phone. Bob eats rather quickly, and John watches as his lips are wrapped around the fork, licking the frosting off his mouth, his throat bobbing… John was hard. He grabs Bob's blanket in an attempt to hide his bulge.
Bob puts the plate on his bedside and turns to John. The blanket was doing nothing to hide his problem. Bob huffs then looks up at John's flushed face. He thinks for a moment before throwing his blanket off of John, and crawling into his lap. He was slow, hesitating. He lowers his hips against John and groans, rolling forward like an instinct. John grunts back, pulling Bob down into a kiss. It was harder this time, his tongue and teeth attacking the man's mouth.
Bob moans into the kiss, grinding down with shaking hips. Bob still tasted like the sweet frosting he'd just eaten, and John like a drink of beer. “It's been so long…” He whispers. The last time he'd slept with someone was to get some more, well, supply. This time he was ready to do it for pleasure. He pulls from John's mouth and starts to kiss at his neck. He holds the man's shoulders to stay stable.
John grunts, his hips bucking upward against Bob. He could feel Bob getting hard against his own bulge. “It's… It's been awhile for me too, babe..” John thinks back to the last time he was with Olivia, months before the divorce. They were busy with a baby after all. Bob whimpers at the nickname babe. John's hand tugs at Bob's hair.
“I… I have a birthday gift idea.." The man groans.
John smirks. "Yeah? What is it?”
"You wanna experiment?” Bob moved to lay beside John, whispering seductively in the man's ear. “I wanna suck you off." John grunts like a wild animal as he gets on top of Bob, throwing off the man's shirt. He runs his hand down the brunette's abs, then kisses his nipple. Bob whines, his hand tangling in John's hair. John's tongue swirls around Bob's chest, kissing and sucking as the man gasped below him.
Bob eventually stops him, flipping them over. He moves down, kissing the bulge in John's pants. The two pull away from each other for a moment to undress, both left in just their boxers. Bob's are black, John's are blue. Bob is trying to do anything to feel less nervous and self conscious.
John pulls the man into one more kiss. “Look at those abs, baby… Super serum did you good, huh?” He says, hand running up Bob's stomach. Bob groans and slowly leans back down, pulling John out of his boxers. He kisses up the man's length, then takes the head into his mouth. John groans, still gripping at the man's hair. “That's it, Bobby…”
The brunette whines and starts to slowly go down. He only makes it about half way before gagging. He pulls off with a sputter. “Jesus, John…” He bites his lip, deciding to take as much as he can and jerk the rest. It just makes John grip his hair harder.
Bob closed his eyes to focus on pleasing the man below him, jerking in slow, deliberate strokes as his tongue swirls up and down. John can't help but push up his hips every once in a while, enjoying the way Bob moaned and gagged.
John eventually pulls Bob's hand away, and lifts his head by his hair. “I wanna fuck your throat." Bob moans, tongue lolling out against his bottom lip. John grunts, not wasting any time bucking his hips into Bob's mouth. The man still gags and sputters, but John didn't care. Bob was a hot mess on his cock, and he loved it. It doesn't take too long until he cums.
Bob doesn't hesitate to swallow, gasping for air when he comes up. John pulls him into a kiss, groaning at the taste of himself on Bob's tongue. He pulls the boy on top of him and starts gripping at his ass. “Fuck, John, I'm so hard right now.." That earns him a slap.
John doesn't speak as he throws Bob down, face first into the pillow. Bob tries to look back, but his head is shoved back into the bed. He whines, but John just takes off his boxers. He slapped the man's ass again, getting a moan. “John…” Another, harder slap.
Bob doesn't have time to think when he suddenly feels John's tongue against his asshole. He groans into the pillows, spreading his legs further. “Oh, God..." John just kept licking until he could work his tongue inside.
Bob starts to reach down to touch himself, and John slaps his hand. The other man whines. “Not until I say you can, Bobby…” Another grunt. Bob rocks his hips back into John's mouth, legs shaking as he lets out moans with no restraint.
Bob eventually can't take it anymore. “John, please, I-I need-" He let out a howl of a moan when John slapped him once again, the sound loud enough to alert the team no doubt. “John! Touch me!"
The man doesn't make Bob beg, no matter how bad he wants to. He just reaches down to jerk Bob's cock as he buries his tongue into Bob's hole. Bob almost screams as he cums into John's hand.
He collapsed onto the bed, panting. John brings his hand to his mouth, licking it clean. He pulls Bob onto his chest and rubs his back. There's a knock on the door. “Keep it down, birthday boy!" Yelena's voice echos. Bob blushes, and John smirks.
"Y'know, I'm the baker…" John says, his hand gripping Bob's ass again. “But you've got a great cake too.”
Bob just scoffs, slapping the man's arm. “Shut up, idiot…” John tries to kiss Bob again, but he avoids it. “Go brush your teeth.” Both of them laugh as John gets up. When he comes back, he kisses Bob until they both drift off.
