**Story 1:**
Penelope fetherington, tired of her family’s constant pressure to marry, wishes to pursue her writing career. When the pressure becomes overwhelming, she turns to her childhood friend, Colin Bridgerton, and asks him to pretend to be interested in her to deter her family. Colin reluctantly agrees as he had made a promise to his late father that he would marry Penelope.
