Chapter 1: the beginning of it all

Chapter Text

If their younger selves could see what was going on now, what would they do? Panic? Freak out? Do absolutely anything in their power to make their future selves pick a different path?

Probably.

The first day back at the place where many made memories, some good and most bad, everything turned upside down. Sticking together may be the only way out of here. But Camp Tipiskaw seems to bring out the worst in people.

The three teams of Disventure Camp: All Stars are gathered for the first challenge of the series. The previous storm was unkind, proven by the bags under some of the campers eyes.

New bonds have formed in some of their teams, along with new tensions.

"Welcome to your first challenge, campers!" Kristal's voice rings out in front of the crowd of campers in front of her. "How was your night?"

"Worst night of my life." A Cyan Team member calls out. The split-dyed haired boy Aiden, rolling his eyes in annoyance.

"Is everything okay, Aiden?" His boyfriend, James, who was put on the Pink team, asks worriedly.

"Not really... the rain soaked us." Aiden admits.

James moves closer for a quick moment, whispering something into Aiden's ear.

"If you cover the tent with leaves, the rain won't get in."

Behind James, another member of the Pink Team, Jake, pipes in.

"Uh... James? What are you doing helping the other team?"

The blonde cow-girl Ashley agrees. "Jake is right."

"So it's okay with you if the rest of us freeze to death?" Aiden retorts.

"That's not what I meant." The blue haired boy responds.

After a bit of bickering, and to the campers dismay, finding out the cabins have been burned, Kristal announces the challenge. "Bring in the critters!"

Three vans pull up, with different types of animals loaded up inside of them to repopulate the forest after Season One's 'incidents.'

And at once, the challenge begins.

James, Ashley and Jake struggling to pull a wolf.

Fiore, the little girl, being bullied by multiple adults and goat.

Riya being chased by an animal twice her size.

Yul being chased by an animal half his size.

Gabby walking a lion as if she owns the animal kingdom.

And... Aiden and Tom already working together perfectly?

Jake catches sight of this.

So does Alec.

"Seems Tom's already replaced you." He comments from behind Jake.

"Uh... what?" He replies, confused.

"He's been smiling a lot more than usual around Aiden."

"No... do you think so?"

"Oh, yes." He continues. "I've noticed it since I got on the plane. Aiden and Tom were smiling at eachother quite a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if they talked before this."

"Aren't you going to... try and take the woodpecker from me?" Jake asks hesitantly.

"No, go ahead." He scoffs. "It must suck getting replaced like that.

Those words ring in Jake's ears for a moment, but he shakes them out quickly.

"W-Whatever! Not like I care!"

He definitely does.

The challenge continues for a short while longer, until Aiden steals the woodpecker from Jake and runs through his gate, scoring his team another couple points

"And those were all the animals!!” Kristal announces.

“With a total of thirty-eight points, Cyan Team wins immunity. Oh, and as a reward for being first, we’ll replace your camping tent with a waterproof one.”

The Cyan Team is delighted. Aiden looks especially happy.

“Second place goes to the Yellow Team, with thirty-one points! They are also safe from elimination.” Kristal continues.

“Hah. As it should be.” Yul comments.

“Proud of you, team!” The older man Connor adds, only to be interrupted by Riya’s rude remark.

“Next time, make sure we get first place so we get the reward too, idiots.

Kristal finishes her announcement. “Which leaves team Magenta with a measly… 12 points. Yeesh… I’ll be seeing you guys at the elimination tonight, where someone will be the first person voted out of Disventure Camp; All Stars!”

The Magenta team glances around at one another in dismay. Nobody wants to be the first to go.

Kristal walks over to the vans, where her newest staff member Emily stands.

“Emily.” She greets. “Do you know where Trevor and Derek are? I need them to help clean up the challenge.”

Emily glances up at her. “I was just about to ask you. Maybe they’re… skipping out on their intern duties? Wouldn’t put it past them.” She shrugged.

“Ugh…” Kristal places a hand on her face. “I bail them out of jail for this? I knew it wouldn’t be long before they tried to avoid their jobs.” Emily nods in agreement, giggling slightly.

“Losers. Guess you’ll have to send them back.” Annoyance crosses Kristal’s face. “I’m gonna go ask Marcus and Nina if they’ve seen them. See you.”

At the producers tent, Kristal pops her head round the tarp and sees Oliver sitting at the desk with all the cameras.

“Oliver? What are you doing?”

“Oh, Kristal! Trevor and Derek haven’t edited the episode yet, so I’m doing a bit of work on it.” He informs. A flash of confusion crosses Kristal’s face.

“What..? But that’s their job… where on earth are they?” Oliver opens his mouth to respond when suddenly Marcus appears, looking frantic.

“Kristal!” He exclaims. Kristal whips around in confusion.

“What’s going on, Marcus?” She says, keeping a calm demeanour, a worried edge to her tone.

“Nina’s gone missing, and I can’t find Trevor or Derek anywhere!”

—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back at the Magenta Team’s camp, Jake approaches James.

“Hey, James.” He says, an edge of nervousness in his tone. “Can I ask you something?”

James looks up at him with a reassuring gaze. “Sure. What’s up?”

Jake hesitates for a moment before bracing himself for James’s answer. “Have you noticed how quickly Tom and Aiden became friends?”

“Uhmm, no. I’m not on their team.” He responds suspiciously.

“I think… you should talk to Aiden.” Jake suggests.

An ounce of irritation appears on James' face. “What are you implying, Jake?” He questions.

“Well it…” He continues anxiously. “Just seems very unusual to me.”

“Respectfully, you don’t know Aiden.” James objected. “Be careful what you are suggesting.”

“Woah, no need to be that hostile. Jake counters.

“You are making stuff up about my boyfriend. He claimed. Jake narrowed his eyes.

“I didn’t make anything up! Others have noticed too. Are you blind?” He remarks.

The darker-skinned man rolls his eyes. “Listen, Boy toy. Clearly you have trust issues. My boyfriend is not cheating on me.”

“Are you calling me a liar?!” Jake snaps.

“A lie would have to be smart.” James mutters. “You’re delusional. I’m leaving.”

And with that, he walks away, leaving a newly angered Jake in his wake.

Ashley, Ally and Hunter throw looks at each other nervously while Fiore is thankful the team's focus isn't on her anymore.

Jake scoffs, turning to the others. “Come on, Ashley. Let’s go.” He mumbled before storming off in the opposite direction.

The blonde shrugged at Hunter and Ally before pacing after him.

It was time to discuss the vote.

—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The six campers from the Magenta Team gathered in front of the fire, with Kristal on the other side standing at her post.

“A tense afternoon on the magenta team…” Kristal comments, causing Jake and James to eyeball eachother.

“Since you’re all returning players, I hope I don’t need to explain how this works. Now, get voting!”

Jake writes down his vote on his parchment, his gaze filled with irritation.

Ashley takes a little longer, a bit confused and nervous.

James places his vote swiftly.

Worry is etched onto Fiore’s expression.

Ally places her vote in the box quickly.

Hunter writes his vote down confidently.

Finally, all the votes are cast. Kristal is holding the box with the votes, a smirk on her lips. “Once the votes are read, the decision is final. The person with the most votes must leave the camp immediately.”

Same old, same old.

You know how this goes.

“First vote; James.”

Jake smirks while James raises an eyebrow.

“Second vote; Jake.”

His eyes widen slightly.

“James.”

He narrows his eyes, throwing a scowl at Jake.

“Fiore.”

The younger child bites her lip.

“Fiore.” Kristal pauses. “That’s two votes Fiore, two votes James, one vote Jake. One vote left…”

“First person voted out from Disventure Camp: All Stars…”

“James! That’s three votes. You’re out.”

James' eyes go wide with shock. “What?! I can’t believe you guys sided with that spoiled brat!” He spat, shoving a finger in Jake’s direction.

“Seriously? Why James? He was actually helpful in challenges.” Hunter adds, throwing Fiore a look.

“I’m sorry to see you leaving so soon, James.” Ally says solemnly.

Kristal shakes her head. “From last year's champion to first boot. James, it's time for you to go.”

He stands up, closing his eyes for a moment before muttering. “Good luck having a paranoid nutcase on the team.” Jake crosses his arms defensively before James walks off, leaving his dreams of another win behind him.

The outside of the camp is quiet and dark, the moon lighting up the road in front of him. James scoffs to himself. “Can’t believe they chose Jake over me.” He says to himself. The bus pulls to a stop in front of him and he climbs on, finding a seat near the back. He sits there, lost deep in thought for a couple minutes before noticing something.

“Hey, Marcus.” He called at the bus driver. “You just went past the turn in for the Losers Motel. Where are we going?”

No reply.

Worry is starting to gnaw at his insides. “Marcus. Where are we going?”

Panic paralyses him as the bus suddenly screeches to a halt, the trees blocking out the light of the moon as the bus goes quiet.

James is about to question him again when Marcus turns around.

Or, who he thought was Marcus. The bus lights goes off and James stammers frantically.

“W-What is going on?! Who are you?” He demands, standing up quickly.

“So you’re the lucky loser…” A growl escapes from the shadowed face of the bus driver. They take a step closer as James move back. He thinks he hears banging from the boot of the bus but now is not the right time to think about anything else.

“Should’ve been satisfied with your previous winnings and not come back, huh?” The gravelly voice laughs. “Sad to see a real All-Star go.”

“What do you mean..?” He takes another step back as the stranger starts closing the distance. A glimpse of metal catches his eye. His heart skips a beat in his chest, the darkness blurring the edges of his vision.

“What are you-”

He lunges.

The bus tilts slightly at the impact.

The face flashes in his vision. A blur of knife and blood.

                                  Aiden.                                                                                                                                                                                      Aiden where are you?

                                                                              I’m sorry

                                                                                                                               Aiden…

                                                                                                                               STAB.
