Jax’s breath comes out in a shudder. The AI was trained off violence, yet has never enacted it against them. It lives inside his code, stifled and suppressed for their benefit, not because it's what he wants. Jax trying to beat the teeth out of his jaw was probably the closest he's ever gotten to getting what he wants.
They were the same, doomed to never have what they truly want, if only for the sanity and security of all the others. They were alone in this, together.
“I’ll give you death ad nauseum,” Caine coos, the hands at his waist squeezing ever so lightly, "and you will hate me for it.”

Now, he was stuck in a cabin in nowhere, middle of, with an ex-admin who mysteriously quit after dealing with him, killing the poor stragglers whenever the man in charge saw fit.
Hoping to god that the next time he sees his son, it is not on those haunting, gloomy fields.
