Hans turned toward her, propping himself on one elbow. The firelight caught the mischief in his eyes, warming the sharp edge of his grin. “You ever wonder why I can coax you apart with my tongue like I was born to it?”
She flushed deeper, her gaze dropping for a moment before flicking back up, equal parts amused and scandalized. “I assumed you were simply gifted.”
He gave her a crooked smile, something tender and wicked glinting behind it. “I was not. Not until Henry.”
Jitka’s eyes widened, a soft gasp caught between a laugh and disbelief.
“No,” she whispered, incredulous.
“Oh yes.”

“Blood magic?” Dread pulls Rook’s heart into her guts with an icy fist. Is this why the taste of blood still lingers, a coppery pepper tang in the back of her throat?
The accusation seems to summon the Dread Wolf from his shadowy enclave and he steps forward, chin lifted in affront. “Firstly, I abhor the use of blood magic,” he announces. “Secondly, had I the power to control you, I would already have used it.”
He…can’t be serious, can he? Rook squints at Solas in genuine bafflement.
“Sorry, just to be clear,” she begins, holding up a staying hand. “That was a stirring declaration of your hatred for blood magic that included—and please, stop me if I'm wrong—admitting that you would not hesitate to use it?”
Solas doesn’t respond, merely scowls and vanishes once more.
“I see,” Rook mutters, mostly to herself though she’s positive he can hear her. “Well, perhaps not the most compelling of arguments.”
