His hands begin to fidget, eyes looking around anxiously, pulling his trench coat around his frame like he wants to hide from Katsuki. The gesture stings but isn’t unwarranted. They haven’t spoken since that call ages ago.
He continues to stare like he’s looking at a ghost in broad daylight, struggling to grasp onto the right words to say to his ex-husband, “he-hey Sho–”
“Papa, I found my chips!” A young girl runs up to Shouto’s cart and drops a familiar looking bag of spicy chips into the cart.

Book one ends with two major diffrences: 1. Sokka went on the mission with Hahn (it did not go well) 2. Zhao survives the North Pole and that proves unfortunate for everybody (except Zhao, obviously)
Imprisoned on Zhao’s war ship, Sokka and Zuko have to work together to survive. They are not very enthusiastic about this prospect.
And they argue.
