To his credit, Gale didn’t even flinch. “I have to use certain… tools to be with my partners. And if they can’t be in me, well… Is that what you want me to do, Gale? To take you?” Karlach leaned down closer, now inches from his face.
Gale licked his lips and slowly, deliberately nodded.

When Andreas Maler first came to Tassing, half a lifetime ago, gossip about the odd, talented young artist from Nuremberg had traveled fast. It was little wonder he managed to leave a memorable impression.
When the man returns -- to the town, and from the dead -- gossip travels even faster. Tassing has changed in the years since, and Andreas has changed too. But the people who missed and mourned him know the look of a person in need -- as do those who never knew the man whose stories and smiles have since been replaced by a deep melancholy.
And Tassing takes care of her own.
