    Summary

Professor Veritas Ratio finds himself having to host a mysterious, troubled college student named Aventurine in his university quarters, and gets caught in the storm that closely follows his heels.

“Promise me you won’t speak of this to anyone,” he instructed, his tone grave, almost threatening. What he was about to propose—it was something unconventional, for want of a better word. “This does not leave the walls of our quarters. Understood?”

Aventurine managed a faint smirk despite the fatigue. "You have my word," he replied, the corners of his mouth turning up ever so slightly. “My lips are sealed.”

“No,” Ratio grumbled, ladling a spoonful of chicken, vegetables, and broth. “I need that mouth open.”

Aventurine’s smile widened into a full-on grin. “My. Are you actually going to spoon feed me?” His voice took on a more lively tone; it was as if he forgot that he was supposed to be on the verge of fainting from hunger.

Dr. Ratio realizes too late that he had given this student more than an inch, and that was soon to become a mile.

    Summary

Aventurine is stuck in a time loop on the day of his “death.”

After forty cycles of failed attempts to get time moving forward, he decides to take a break from solving the mystery and blow off a little steam with Ratio. But the doctor’s reaction to what Aventurine intends to be a casual hook-up raises deep issues for both of them and ends up dragging Ratio into the time loop.

To break free, they will have to cooperate. Productive communication, however, turns out to be a much bigger challenge than the time loop itself.

    Summary

Whatever Ratio had drunk, it must have been strong for him to be acting like this. “Yeah, Doc, it’s time you go to sleep-”

    “I love you.”

Aventurine’s head whipped back into place to face Ratio. Those words couldn’t be real. Not coming out of Ratio’s mouth, and not directed towards Aventurine. He needed confirmation. He needed confirmation that this was real, he wasn’t dreaming, he wasn’t insane, he was here, he was real and that actually happened. Because not even in his wildest dreams would something as impossible as this occur. Desperately, Aventurine seized Ratio’s arms which were loosening around him as he looked to him for validation.

Aventurine stared at him in horror.

    Ratio was passed out.

    ◇─◇──◇─◇

A drunk Ratio admits he loves Aventurine. Only Aventurine remembers the confession by the next morning.

“It’s my fault,” says the child, without prelude. “It’s my fault, and I don’t know what to do about it.”

Alhaitham’s brows furrow. “What is your fault?”

“Why I feel like this. Why this … happened.” The child’s voice grows smaller and its chin rests back on the tops of knees. “It was because of me. He did it for me, and now? Now, we’re…”

In which Alhaitham, in his dreams, visits the most crucial of Kaveh's memories. Or, they learn what it means to love another person unconditionally.

    Summary

"The problem with Penacony for Aventurine—the real problem, besides Sunday Oak and his insufferable attitude, besides Robin’s mysterious disappearance, besides Topaz and Jade’s incessant need to get in his business and stay in his business—is that the Penacony Museum has just hired a new curator from outside of the Family to assist with the research and care of some of the more precious artwork. It’s practically unheard of for the board of directors to hire someone outside their nepotistic inner circle, so someone being called in from the outside had to be special.

And Doctor Veritas Ratio sure is fucking special. And special, thy name is Aventurine."

(or, the stonehearts are an elite group of art thieves targeting the penacony museum. this would be fairly straightforward, if the museum hadn't just hired aventurine's ex-situationship as their new assistant curator. there is no way this can possibly go wrong.)
