Summary
Hans glances, very briefly, behind Henry at the buck that lies splayed and open against the tree. The perspective gives the illusion that the broken buck sits on Henry’s shoulder, that the held up leg brushes Henry’s ear, that if Hans reached behind him he would touch the blood and guts, the antlers, the prey, the reward.
After the wedding, Hans goes hunting and finds himself in both the predator and the prey.

Summary
“Henry.”
“Louder.”
Hans says, a little over a whisper, “Henry.”
If Henry had still been wearing his armor, the sound of his name would be barely audible over the metal clinking against metal, the leather straps stretching, the sword’s pommel hitting his plate, the blood, the city, the yelling men, the drunken men, the giggling girls. The dogs, the horses, the leather untied and dropped to the floor until he’s as quiet as he can be. It'll only get quieter. A sound slips into the spaces left open, for him.

Summary
Freckles on his shoulders, an old scar just under the collarbone from a wound Henry wasn’t there to defend him from, once. More lost details, more differences, more that persists only in Henry’s mind. Oh, to capture this, to sculpt or carve it. To be able to hold it in his hand with such pressure that it breaks the skin. To absorb it and let it absorb him.
Hans carves Henry a wooden figure of himself. Through blood and killing and stealing and coming home, it becomes the only real thing.

Summary
“You’re stupidly bold,” Hans says, and Henry’s smile widens until his nose wrinkles as he replies, “And do you like that?”
“Maybe.”
As he slips into his hose, Henry’s voice behind him starts low then rises, as though during the act of saying the thing, he finds some more boldness to push him through to the end of the sentence, “Then next time, you’ll have an answer besides maybe.”
Next time. A shiver runs through Hans that he hides in the process of throwing his pourpoint around his shoulders. “Next time,” he says, and starts higher than he ends, losing his own boldness halfway through.
It starts at the bathhouse, a drunken mistake, and then continues, and continues, and continues. KCD1 scenes reimagined with more intentional Hansry.

Summary
“Be calm,” Hans whispers against his ear. “And tell me again that you trust me.”
“I’m calm,” he says, his words drifting behind him to a place he cannot see, “and I trust you. I trust you.”
Hans remains in his blind spot, and Henry listens to him breathe, walk, speak, whisper, move, feels him there, smells him, but does not see him.

Summary
Hans is rapidly starting to hate Ruthard Palace. He’s sick of staring at nothing but the Ruthard’s dour decorative choices, the same miserable colours and motifs in Kuttenberg that he’d had plenty of time to grow weary of in Maleshov. He’s sick of not being able to say this with the would-be scion of the Ruthards somehow always within earshot, lest he cause offence. He's sick of Brabant, who he’s now spent far too much time with and has heard every one of his stories at least twice. He’s sick of Žižka and Hynek cutting him out of conversations, out of decisions, out of his rightful place at the table.
He’s been here for barely three days, but if he has to remain within these four walls for even ten minutes more, he’s going to lose his mind.
Henry co-ordinates a jailbreak to give Hans a small reprieve from his effective house arrest, and Hans gets a glimpse into what Henry was doing in Kuttenberg while he was being held in Maleshov.

Summary
“They’ve got Bartosch in the dungeons,” Henry says, coming to stand next to Hans on the wooden battlements of Nebakov. There’s still dried blood on his bottom lip, one half of it swollen and split. It throws off the usual symmetry of Hans’ slightly downturned mouth, and exaggerates the exhaustion starting to settle on them both.

post-canon, Hans visits Henry's forge
I am told the road to Kutná Hora is sound. I am also told the flow of silver to Rattay requires my personal attention for a lord must inspect what is his.
Expect me by the feast of St. Luke. Keep your door unlatched.
Yours in perpetual misery,
