"I can keep a secret! I can even keep a big secret! Haven't spilled yet. And I'm sure, whatever you tell me, I have the bigger secret, this will be easy."
"You keep secrets from Dad? I will tell him."
"What no, hey buddy-"
"I tell you mine, you tell me yours. Dad will not be involved, no matter what it is."Or: A lot of revealed secrets within the Diaz-Buckley household.

Summary
Coming to terms with your own sexuality in your thirties is exhausting. But Eddie knew that with the right people on his side, he had nothing to lose.
5 times, members of the Buckley-Diaz family talk about sexuality and one time words are unnecessary

Summary
Eddie knows that people love to take the name of god, a symbol of hope and compassion, as an excuse for blatant hate on whoever doesn't fit in. He knows that as a Mexican, as someone with a mental illness, as a father of a disabled kid, and as a queer questioning human being.
Or: Buck wonders what Eddie does on Sundays. What do church, being queer, and being a firefighter have in common?

"He wouldn't stop talking about his best friend, Neddy, or something. Like, hello, you're on a date, tell me about you and not the random guy who's not here."
"You don't say!"
"Yeah, it was awkward. Like, I don't have any problem with a bi guy. But when you're obviously crushing, don't come here!"
"What if I tell you his best friend IS here?"
Ravi considered playing the unknown bystander for five seconds before he could no longer hide his excitement at sharing his burning pain.
...
"Do they... know they're in love with each other?"
> Or: Eddie, Buck, and Ravi were tricked into participating in a speed-dating event. What began as one seven-minute torture after another quickly devolved into their little fake dating game.

"What happened?"
"She vanished after I told her I'm bi."
"She WHAT?" Eddie made sure he didn't mishear him.
"Yeah, I guess. She asked me why my last relationship didn't last, and I told her the truth. After that, she insisted this wouldn't work and left. I'm kinda getting good at being dumped. And funnily enough, both times were me being bisexual a reason why." Buck smiled and joked, but it was obvious that what had happened had hurt him.
> Or: Eddie comforts Buck after a failed date and they finally face what's between them.

Summary
“Mick—”
“Fuckin’ drop it!”
He didn’t wait for Ian to answer. Just grabbed his jacket and slammed the door on the way out. Hard enough to make the frame rattle.
Because if Ian was gonna treat him like he was still worth anything, then Mickey was gonna make damn sure to prove him wrong.
***
And Ian’s breath caught.Because Mickey’s eyes weren’t just red. They were glass. Soaked from the inside out. Like he’d been drowning all week behind that scowl and no one noticed the flood.
Ian softened instantly. His whole body shifted — less dom, more devoted.
“Oh,” he murmured, taking one step forward. “Oh, my poor baby…”

Summary
Buck is a lot. Eddie knows Buck is a lot. Buck knows Buck is a lot.
But every single person who ever said that to Buck said it like a warning. Like a disclaimer, a heads-up, a you-should-know-what-you're-getting-into before getting too close so they can't say they weren't told.
And Eddie has never, not once, wanted Buck to be less.
The surplus, the overflow, the fourth tangent on a story that started somewhere else entirely — that's not the price of Buck. That is Buck. And more of Buck has only ever meant more to love, and Eddie spent enough years running on empty to know what it means when someone fills up every room they walk into so completely that Eddie is overflowing with it most days.
"Eddie. Are you listening?"
Eddie nods. "Gym Katie is alone at the gym and she's upset."
Buck blinks. His mouth is still open from the sentence he was about to say, his hands still mid-gesture, and he looks genuinely thrown, like he expected to catch Eddie zoning out and instead got caught himself. Caught being heard.
"You were listening," Buck says, a little breathlessly.
Eddie smiles. "I'm always listening."

Summary
Eddie didn’t know what to expect when they got dispatched to the call, but it certainly wasn’t this.
The man was bound, but the intricacy by which he was tied up was like nothing Eddie had seen before. It wasn’t just his wrists, but his arms were secured behind him, attaching him to the frame of the bed by something Eddie couldn’t quite see from where he stood.
It wasn’t a rushed job, from the little that Eddie could tell was going on. This was precise work—secure and firm in its structures. Their victim was completely bound. Immobile.
Something far back in his mind—shaped vaguely like a door, cracked open just enough to make Eddie suck in a breath and slam it back shut.
or, when Eddie learns something new about himself, it forces him to begin untangling a web of desires he's kept hidden for a long time.

Summary
Day twenty-three, change of tactics.
I feel like you both are being dumb.
Dad unfolds this one and reads it and stops and reads it again like he's hoping the words will rearrange themselves into something less insulting.
"Excuse me?"
"It's my feeling." Chris spears a dumpling with his chopsticks. "You can't argue with my feeling, that's not how therapy works."
"I can ask for clarification on what you mean."
"Clarification about what? It's very clear. You—" he points at Dad, "both—" he swings to point at Buck, "dumb. Three words. Simple sentence structure. I learned about that in English class."
Or,
Chris weaponizes his therapy homework to make his emotionally constipated dad admit he's in love with Buck.- Language:
