None of them noticed even a hint of Scott's presence as he carefully stepped onto the stone segment of the bridge behind Pyro. He hadn't thought they would, given his centuries of practice. But it was still disappointing; their enemy had at least one vampire firmly in their ranks— that his menagerie of Fledglings did so little to observe their surroundings for unwanted ears was a rather glaring weakness.

Both jaded from such a long life, and having to go back to the root of all their problems, the two of them must navigate the complicated mess of interpersonal relationships and politics that Oakhurst promises with the knowledge of what's to come.

He hates how fast his brain knits comparisons between himself and the image before him; there’s been one too many times he’s been backed into a corner, having to make himself seem bigger and tougher than he really is. The kitten bares its teeth and its hair fluffs up. Mickey knows all too well that it’s just smoke and mirrors. A defense mechanism, even if the thing is tiny and wouldn’t scare an ant.
“Christ,” Mickey swears. He really shouldn’t have asked to see the fucking cat.
