He thought of Yoshida’s voice, steady, quiet, sometimes sharp, sometimes coaxing. “Eat properly,” Yoshida would say. “Don’t stay out too late.” Always these little commands disguised as kindness. Always trying to lock Denji in the cage called domesticity. And Denji hated it because he wasn’t used to it. He couldn’t, not after Aki and Power. But right now, he would have torn himself apart to hear Yoshida tell him to eat vegetables one more time.
