Summary
Buck sat beside him, as usual, and on the ride there he was weirdly silent. Bobby was filling them up on the emergency–kid stuck herself in a tree–and Buck didn't say a word, didn't tell them a story from his reckless childhood, didn't express concern. It was unlike him, so Eddie bumped his shoulder with his own.
“You good there, bud?”
“Hm?” Buck whipped his head to look at Eddie. “Oh, yeah. Fine. Peachy.”
“Uh huh,” Chimney said, just as Hen whispered “I bet.”
Eddie didn't understand but he didn't push either. If Buck needed something, Eddie trusted he'd tell him.
Or: Eddie is one of those people who are too flexible. Buck wants to see what he can do with that.

“What,” he mumbles, and his voice doesn't even frame it as a question.
“I don't know,” Buck shrugs. “You caught me by surprise. I didn't know you were so…”
“Vanilla?” Eddie tries.
“Repressed.”
“Repressed? I’m not repressed, Buck,” Eddie scoffs and turns fully to him again, aghast at the implication. Buck just keeps staring back knowingly. It's unnerving and makes Eddie angry and–a little hot with shame, maybe, but he'd never admit that out loud. “I'm not–I’m not. I have been having sex with boring women, okay? But I'm–I could be adventurous, if the opportunity presented itself!”
He's so clearly offended; he's gesturing widely, avoiding Buck's eyes and his voice has risen a little bit past what a comfortable Eddie would reach in volume. But whatever, okay, he would be adventurous. He could.
“Is that so?” Buck says, and his voice is low enough with it that it gives Eddie full pause. “What–how adventurous are we talking?”
Or: Eddie thinks he's boring in bed and Buck teaches him some new tricks.

Tilting his head, Eddie allows, “Alright. You’re a vampire.” He takes a sip, lets it burn down into his belly, then challenges, “Prove it.”
In this kind of light, low and close, the birthmark on Buck’s temple bleeds over his eye, seems to stand out stark against his skin. Eddie focuses on it for a moment as Buck’s brow crinkles, furrowing like he can’t understand what Eddie’s saying.
“Prove it?” he echoes.
“Yeah, prove it.” Eddie readjusts himself, as if he’s settling in to be Buck’s audience for this grand performance. With a sweep of his free hand, the shadow of his arm cutting across the lantern-lit room, he tells him, “Prove you’re a vampire, and I’ll believe you.”

Summary
Buck knows Eddie has to go to Texas for Christopher. He knows that, and he would never ask Eddie to choose him instead.
But knowing does not make it easier to watch Eddie pack up the house Buck had started thinking of as home. And when Buck overhears Eddie tell the renters there’s not much keeping him in LA, something in him finally breaks.

"If we could want the same form of physical intimacy from each other," Eddie finishes for him with a nod, a little more confident now.
"H-how?"
"Uh, I don't know yet," Eddie admits. "Slowly, I suppose. I thought we could, you know, come up with a plan together?"
"A plan," Buck echoes, but he doesn't sound weirded out, more like he's already planning to buy a clipboard. "And it wouldn't be strange? I mean, considering— I'm a man, Eddie."
OR After the attack in the hospital, Eddie finds a letter hidden inside a book that Buck gave him, and reading it unravels him irreparably.

Chris remembers, suddenly, the days after his mom died, the feeling of dread that lingered under his skin. The way it slowly bubbled up, over the years, until he couldn’t be this kid anymore, this kid who could look at the world and not see danger in every corner. He wishes that Theo will never be like that. He knows, living with a first responder, that the odds of him turning out any other way are against him.
“Hey, Theo,” he says suddenly, the words spilling from his lips without permission. “Do you think Buck is your dad?”
Christopher isn't sure how he feels about Theo, or what he means for him and Buck. When they're caught up in a disaster alone, he has plenty of time to figure it out.
