Summary
Taehyung was six when he learned what hope tasted like.
He remembers when a myriad of flavour burst in the back of his throat. It was light and fluffy, reminiscent of cotton, but it was also warm and syrupy. It slid down his throat heavily, dragging and slow, before it settled soundly at the bottom of his stomach. It sat there snuggly and Taehyung had thought it would slow him down with how dense it felt in his tiny body.
It didn't take long for him to learn that the pleasant, invitingly, captivating, deceivingly, sweet honey nectar that was hope - was exactly what poison tasted like. Sickly sweet and cloying, as it destroys and kills him from within.
(Or, Taehyung's life was a culmination of long, hard, cruel lessons. But it was also the lessons that taught him survival in the cold walls of the Palace, under the cold eyes of everyone. However, a single meeting with Jimin leads to a different kind of life lesson that Taehyung had never heard before - how to smile, how to breathe, how to live.)

“Glad to see you back among the living,” Phainon says through a yawn, clearly having spent the night in the uncomfortable chair in the infirmary by Mydei’s side. Like he often does.
Mydei’s head hurts. Just the regular kind of pain, easily managed by ignoring it until it goes away. But what makes it worse, is the confusion at his predicament. The memories returning to him in death used to vary in time and people who appeared in them. Why is it always Phainon nowadays?
“Fuck you,” Mydei says, hoarsely. He feels like he is losing his mind.
Phainon’s mouth locks mid-yawn and he blinks down at him stupidly, tilting his head with confusion. It’s probably fair, he hasn’t even done anything to earn Mydei’s ire as of late.
or; Human brain lives for a few more minutes after dying, replaying the most cherished memories. Mydei starts seeing Phainon after each of his deaths.
