Summary
Sunoo startled slightly, before frowning at Ni-ki. He lifted his gloved hand, and Ni-ki watched as Sunoo removed the glove. His eyes caught on the wedding band. From this angle, he could see the small “N” engraved in the ring. Sunoo clenched his hand into a fist, before holding it palm up towards Ni-ki.
“Look at my hand, Ni-ki.” He turned his hand around, showing Ni-ki both sides. “No flesh, no blood. It’s just bones. And it’s not just my hand. I’m dead, Ni-ki, and you’re alive. I’d be an idiot if I didn’t think that might bother you. I wear the glove because I don’t want you to be uncomfortable.”

“I’ll get right to the point, as I’m sure you’re busy. We have a new exchange student starting next week, and since you currently have no roommate, we’re going to put you two together.” He paused for a moment, and Sunoo hoped he appeared more calm than he felt. “Now, I understand this may not be ideal, but you have done so well in your time here that we thought it could be helpful for the new student. We know you’ll help him feel welcome.”
Sunoo smiled at the counselor. “Of course, sir. I’m happy to know you trust me with this. I’ll do my absolute best.” He just hoped his new roommate was someone he could get along with.
The counselor nodded, briefly returning Sunoo’s smile. “Excellent, Sunoo-ssi. Your new roommate is named Riki, he should be here by the end of the week. You’re free to return to class now.”

Summary
After a rabies exposure, the virus must travel to the brain before it can cause symptoms. Therefore, the incubation period may last for weeks to months depending on several factors such as location of the exposure site (in relation to the brain) and age; in extremely rare cases it could be dormant for years.
Rumi thinks about this one frequently, lying in bed at night; the idea that you could be wasting away at any moment in your life. A poison in your veins with you none the wiser– like a ticking bomb just waiting to go off.
You would need to get bit or scratched first, of course, and if you took the right precautions you would likely never know. And Rumi has never been bitten anyway. She’s fine.
Absently, she scratches at her shoulder– skin tight.also known affectionately as the “rabies rumi” fic. i promise she doesn’t actually get rabies.

Summary
“Why bring her to me?” She was not a savior, she was a monster. Every day she carried the broken pieces of stone birds into her temple and mended them with clay and twine. The few animals she kept have had their sight removed, yet they nuzzled into her hand all the same. Her garden flourished, because it could not see the cruelty of the face of the one who tended to it. The island had been pristine when she had found it. Alive. Thriving.
The Nereid only tilted her head, sea-weed dark hair sliding wetly across her shoulders and throat. “Her quest was to find you.”
“Find me?” She scoffed. “People find me for one reason only.”
“To kill you?” grinned Zoey. It was a feral thing, revealing rows of serrated teeth. The illusion of a beautiful woman suddenly replaced by something wild, something dangerous. How apt.
She shook her head morosely. “To die.”
OR
The Greek Mythology AU where Rumi is Perseus, sent to slay Mira as Medusa, but Zoey, daughter of the ocean, is tired of tragedies, and manipulates fate just enough to get something entirely different. This is a tale of how three women find each other despite their destinies, and build a love strong enough to defy the gods.Bookmarked by literalgarbage

Summary
"Bobby," she says, watching him carefully. "You're making a big deal out of this. What's wrong?"
His shoulders tense before easing into an odd half-relaxed state. Bobby turns to her, head tilting just so, a funny little furrow in the middle of his brow. A frown looks uncomfortable on him, cheeks sagging. "You just should have given us some time to prepare is all."
"Okay," Rumi says, though it sounds like a question. "I'll… keep that in mind for next time?"
"Maybe you should stay in town tonight," he adds. "It's dark out. Going to be hard to find your way through the forest—I'm sure Celine hasn't left the lights on along the path."
"I'll be fine," she insists with a dismissive wave. She leans her weight onto one leg and shakes the numbness out of the other. "Like riding a bike."
Or: Rumi has spent four years away from her hometown. Now that she's graduated, she's ready to visit her family again. But time has left her behind and things have changed—and someone else has taken her place.
