Summary
It was fitting, Burrich thought with a drunken huff, the world being bathed in the light of a darkened crimson. It matched the unbridled rage that grew and festered in the pit of his stomach everyday. Ever since his bond with Neko had broken, split and cleaved from his soul during that sudden equine plague, his grief turned into a storm of reckless energy – energy to flee, to fight, to bite the hand that feeds. There was no sense to it, but then again, was there ever any sense to a beast's way of thinking? For that’s what he was, he reminded himself. He had engaged in the beast magic once more, turning further away from the world of men and embracing the way of animals. He deserved this, he deserved to be treated like the animal he was.

Based on Burrich's description of his time within Chivalry's employment from Chapter Two of Assassin's Quest, I've expanded upon and taken some artistic liberties with the tale, though I tried to remain as close to canon as possible.

As he talked, Darlington backed Alex into the alcove of the foyer, her spine pressed flush against the solid wood paneling, his knee sliding between her thighs. He pulled back and looked down at her, pausing. A small wave of his hair fell forward and tickled at her cheek as he bent down and once again whispered in her ear, the warmth of his breath gently grazing her skin like a lover's caress as he asked, “Do you want that, my little heathen?”
When she didn’t answer, he pulled back to look into her eyes. Unable to form words, she stared back and nodded. A dark smile played across his lips, reminiscent of silken sheets, secrets, and vows whispered only in dreams.
Like a devotee at an altar, Darlington went to his knees.

Summary
When is the right time to tell someone you love them?
Bruce and Clark aren't together, but they could be. Bruce has thought about it. Clark has thought about it. But just as Clark decides to finally take the leap, he falls ill. It doesn't take long for Bruce to figure that out, except that Clark's not just sick.
Clark is dying. And in a bid to save his life, Bruce has to race against time in search of a cure.
Written for the Superbat Big Bang 2025.

Bruce's heart leaps into his throat when Clark raises his head and looks up at Bruce with wide, horrified eyes. Clark’s hand covers his mouth, but there’s—blood, hot and bright red, streaming through the cracks of his fingers. Another round of violent coughing wracks his chest and Bruce jerks into motion and lunges forwards to catch him around the shoulders before he hits the dirt.
After a moment, Clark’s hands—they’re shaking, Bruce notices—drop from his mouth and Clark stares down at them in bewildered horror.
“Bruce,” he whispers, with blood painting his lips red and dripping down his chin.

He opens his door to find Damian Wayne standing there with two swords in both his hands, visibly fuming. This would probably be more intimidating if the squirt weren’t at eye level with the middle of his autopsy scar and dressed like a walking traffic light.
“Hello, Red Hood,” Damian grits out between his teeth.
“Sup, Robin,” Jason says. “I just got done making mujaddara. You want some?”
Damian stands still as a statue for exactly ten seconds, his grip on his swords knuckle-white. Then he very firmly nods.

Or: Jason really wants to get revenge, on like, everyone, but he keeps postponing his plans because Damian Wayne insists on stalking him. Somehow, the angry chihuahua child worms his way into Jason’s undead heart. This is not a drill.
