Summary
A mostly crackfic series that asks, what if Shane and Ilya were slightly out of character? Shane is bitchier, Ilya is manic and philosophical, Cliff Marleau and the Boston boys take turns babysitting their crashing-out captain, and Shane finally gets recognized as the pretty, funny, sassy player he is.
Nothing is too serious about this, it's a mix of show and book canon, and a healthy dose of fanon (himbo king Cliff). Ilya is allowed to catch feelings early, as a treat and Shane is allowed to let his inner mean girl out.
Please enjoy these silly boys and their silly relationships! Four works so far with more to come! How much more? I don't know! They keep doing silly things and my brain keeps writing it down.

April 2017, Montreal. Shane is hit cleanly. Ilya drops his gloves, his stick, and his helmet; he is beside Shane before he has decided to be. He gets in the ambulance in his skates. He tells Hayden Pike why.
The bloodwork comes back three days later. Cancer.
What follows is the worst weather of their lives. They could crumble. They could run — they have both run before, they are good at it, and the year gives them a hundred reasons. Instead, they stand in it. They put their hands on each other and hold, and when one goes down, the other gets him up, and neither of them stays the strong one for long.
Around them, holding too: a mother who will not sleep, a best friend who has to learn how to be a good one, a teammate who picks up the phone at three in the morning, a man down the hall in a red silk robe who has been loved, unafraid, and out for longer than Ilya has been alive.
It takes a year. It costs them everything they thought they were.
They come out the other side. Still chirping. Still each other's.

An interval between two parts of the same story. Often mistaken for an ending.The All-Star Game is supposed to be harmless. Bright lights, broadcast smiles, forced camaraderie, famous rivals pretending none of it matters.
Shane can handle all of that. What he cannot handle is Ilya two corridors away, wearing the wrong jersey, captaining the wrong team, and acting like they are not in love.
Then a bomb threat empties the arena before puck drop. The players are told to stay in their dressing rooms. The delay becomes a lockdown. The lockdown becomes captivity.
Below the ice, with the league’s most valuable players held as hostages, Shane and Ilya have to survive the night without reaching for each other, without giving themselves away, and without letting fear turn into something worse.

Or: Shane finds out about the plane malfunction just a tad too late. Featuring: breakdowns in the locker room, Ilya's love put on blast, and Comeau being the canonical dick we all know him to be.
