Mike grins. “You and Max better not ditch me and Lucas at Prom. I don’t think I’ll be able to convince Lucas to dance with me.”
Will’s stomach flips. “What, and you think you could convince me?” He’s trying for a playful tease, but it almost comes out flirty. He rolls his eyes for good measure.
“I—don’t know, actually,” Mike admits. “Maybe if I earn it.”
“…Earn it,” Will repeats slowly. “And how would you do that?”
Mike shrugs. “I think that’s up to you, right?”
Mike has asked Will to the Prom as friends, but Will’s long-dormant romantic feelings are starting to reawaken.

Will hesitates. “Yeah, I mean— I guess I just sort of…pictured myself with a date.”
“Oh,” Mike says, a little surprised. He doesn’t really know how to talk to Will about this part of him yet. He usually avoids the topic—unlike their friends—and waits for Will to bring it up first.
“It’s…stupid, I know.”
“No!” Mike says quickly. “No, nothing’s stupid.” Suddenly, an idea comes to him. “What if you and I go together?”
Will has always wanted to go to Prom with a date. And Mike—well, Mike doesn’t have a date, but he does have an idea.

When his vision cleared, his eyes fell upon a new image so intimately familiar to him, and yet so unbelievably foreign. His instincts could spot an undead creature before his mind could be conscious of it, his blade of silver drawn before he even registered the sight. And he knew Will better than he knew himself. His cleric, his companion, his friend—he could feel his presence in the pitch dark, could pick him out by scent alone.
Mike did not need a working brain to recognize his best friend, nor did he need it to recognize a vampire when he saw one.

Summary
In a book that’s sitting on their coffee table, aptly titled What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Will tabbed a chapter called “2nd Trimester: The Honeymoon Phase”. According to Heidi Murkoff, he can say goodbye to morning sickness (thank God) and say hello to, well, increased everything in the second trimester: increased appetite, increased energy, increased libido. And indeed like clockwork, he found out why the second trimester was called “the honeymoon period”.

“'Cause your bed is comfy,” Mike slurred his words. “And…‘cause I missed you.”

“Oh.” Will blinks. “What is?”
Mike’s tongue darts out to wet his lower lip. “O negative.” Will feels a flush move across his entire body. His magic hums inside of him, excited. His fingers twitch against the carton. Maybe Will was wrong, maybe this is different than having a favorite kind of pizza. More personal. O negative sits differently in Will’s head than double black olives with extra cheese does. More intimate.
“Oh.” Will blinks again. And maybe O negative sits differently in Will’s head, because it also flows through his veins. He feels obligated to tell Mike. “I’m O negative.”
Mike’s pupils widen again. “I know.” His voice is low, gravelly.
Will’s breath hitches again. “You know?” He flinches when Mike’s fingers graze his, peeling the carton out of Will’s hand.
Mike takes a deep breath. “I can smell it.”
Or, five times that Will offered Mike his blood and the one time that Mike accepted.
