Summary
Dabi didn’t have to earn his place at Hawks’s dinner table. He was allowed to eat what he wanted to eat, and when he wanted to eat. Hawks never pushed him to finish a meal, just reminded Dabi that it would be good to get something in his stomach. Dabi was still allowed to control the pace at which he wanted to heal. And it was healing, what he was doing. Against his better judgement, this is where he had arrived. He needed to get stronger, he couldn’t stand up to his father otherwise.

Dabi came to with a start on the floor, his head somehow underneath a pillow and Hawks’s golden eyes still staring back at him.
“Sorry,” Dabi mumbled, feeling positively awful.
“You fainted,” Hawks said, his voice trembling slightly. He was dressed again. “I couldn’t catch you, but I grabbed a pillow once you went down, thought it would be more comfortable.”
“You didn’t have to do that,” Dabi felt strange being the sole focus of Hawks’s attention like this. He wasn’t used to people fussing over him.
