When he spots a familiar silhouette walking through the tall grass he almost thinks it's a hallucination. It could be, with how Jungwon's familiar shape blends into the grass in the sharp sunlight, his form somehow bleeding into the thick smell of weed, the heat, the dust. Swirling muddily like the paint from a dirty paintbrush the moment it's submerged in clean water. Riki gets to his feet before his brain has registered what he's doing. He has no plan, just knows that the others can't see Jungwon here. It won't lead to anything good. He can feel it.
It's summer. Riki is seventeen, and his only friend is about to leave town for university. And he's okay. He's handling it.

Something's wrong with Siwon's lungs. His chest hurts, it contracts, curls up like a paper ball. There isn't enough space in his lungs for air, all of it's been taken up by smoke. He forgot to breathe it out in the forest, when he had his last cigarette. He's been holding his breath ever since, the smoke's been trapped inside his lungs for hours. He can feel it. He's rotting.

She dreams herself as something between girl and animal. Girl and beast. Here comes Sunoo, leaping out at her, body as flexible and slim as a fox. They tumble around on the grass like cubs, eager to bite at each other, play-fighting. Sunghoon comes too, her wet snout pressing against Riki’s cheek, tongue soft on her face. She licks downwards, affectionately, bites into the soft skin of Riki’s stomach until she bleeds. Laps it up afterwards.

Summary
