Summary
“Prepare for Neural Handshake.” Minho warns, and begins to count down.
“Are you ready for this?” Chan asks, flexing his fingers.
No, Felix wants to say, knee jerk and tinged with the anxiety that something will go wrong. But that would be a lie. He’s been ready since he flipped Chan on the mat, staring down at his flushed face and wishing more than anything to crawl under his skin.
“Are you?”
It gets a smile from Chan, and that feels a little like a victory.
or: Felix hasn't been inside of a Jaeger in months, still recovering from an accident that almost cost him everything, and Chan is forever running from the sharp edges of his own mind, even at the cost of the people most important to him.

Summary
“What?” Jeongin prompts, leaning with his palm against the bar counter. “I said Minho hyung’s name, and your face got all red. Do you guys know each other?” he asks, and then— “I got a sense that was the case earlier in the firehouse. He’s not usually so relaxed around new people.”
But Jisung’s mind is stuck on one thing. “My face got all red?” he asks, subconsciously bringing a hand up to his cheek to feel the warmth of his own skin. He does feel a little hot under the collar all of a sudden, but in that moment, he chooses to blame it all on alcohol. Even though all he’s had is maybe three sips of beer.
“It did.” Jeongin grins. “So, what’s the story?”
(For a firefighter with years of experience under his belt, Jisung should probably know just how easy it is to rekindle old flames. Alas.)

Summary
“Can you tell me — how it started?”
Minho hummed. “Well,” he said, “we met in a bar.”
Basic field operative training covers hiding, deflection, and lying, in that specific order. It doesn’t exactly cover how to lie to pretty men in bars who send you expensive drinks.

Summary
Jisung turns his head to give Minho an angry squint. “I feel like you’re trying to trick me. I don’t know how, or for what reason, but you are.”
Minho isn’t looking at him anymore, scrolling on his phone, gracing Jisung with his ridiculous side profile. “I would never trick you,” he says, voice as flat as the plains of Colorado.
“That sounds like something someone who’s trying to trick me would say.”
“Jisung.”
“What.”
“Come here.” He clicks his phone off and sets it on the nightstand between their beds, then pats his thigh.
“What?” Jisung short circuits for a moment. Minho wants him to… what? Sit on his thigh? Isn’t that a little forward? That has to be skipping at least ten steps. They’ve only known each other for, like, less than 72 hours. And a majority of that was spent antagonizing one another.
“I said come here.” And he pats his thigh again as if that’s a completely normal thing to do.

Summary
A few days into October, Jeongin wakes to the news that there had been an animal attack in the forest surrounding Yellow Wood. The headlines litter the browser he’s opened on his phone, all sensationalist and a touch fear mongering.
Jeongin thinks about waking up with dirt under his nails and that taste at the back of his throat that took him three consecutive teeth brushings to get rid of. The article doesn’t say when the deer died, or when it was found.
He can’t stop thinking about it.
