She steps around him without another word.
“I begged to work with you.” His voice is urgent. Practically desperate.
And it's that, together with the actual words, that strucks her to her core. A shiver of something dances up her spine. She slowly turns around. “What?”
He pinches the bridge of his nose, looking embarrassed and defeated. He mutters under his nose, “This is not how… Dammit.”
