"No," Baelor said, and there was a finality to his voice. "I will not let our parents send you to someone who is a brute and even if your partner shall turn out to be a brute, you will always have a place in my household."

"Do you promise?" Maekar believed it as he did believed everything that Baelor ever said. He had never doubted Baelor.

"If someone hurts you, you can come to me." Baelor said firmly.

“Have you ever thought about getting one?” Lyonel asked.

Dunk furrowed his brow at Lyonel’s vague question until it dawned on him. “Oh, fuck off—”

“Rude!” Lyonel exclaimed in delight. “How rude you are to me for asking but a simple question!”

“A hedge knight with an earring is asking to be robbed,” Dunk drawled.

A concession turns into a confession, and Duncan wears both very well.

    -OR-

How an earring altered the trajectory of House Baratheon.

    Summary

Lyonel’s post-tournament hangovers rarely had anything to do with the amount of spirits he’d consumed.

Even though it left Lyonel feeling like the ass end of a mule, there was nothing like days on end of having his blood up, of tearing through the lists against any alpha, beta, or omega that was brave enough to tap his shield. The noise, the chaos, the crash-splinter of lances and the bone-jarring impact of melee weapons, all of it helped alleviate the storm perpetually trapped underneath Lyonel’s skin.

Lyonel leaves Ashford without fanfare, without answers, and without Duncan.

    Or so he thought.
