It’s exhausting to remember that after all of this, after the interviews and the classes and telling strangers about our childhoods and our relationship and our finances and every private thing we have ever survived, that someone still has the power to decide if they think we’re good enough.”
“The crib is built,” Ilya says, voice shaking now. “There’s a tiny mobile with woodland creatures hanging above it. The car seat is in the closet. It’s been so long, the nursery doesn’t even smell like paint anymore. We’re about to go into the most intense month of the year, and I don’t know how to hold both things in my hands without dropping one and shattering the other.”
It begins with small moments like glances that linger a second too long, the quiet realization that maybe they want more. When Shane & Ilya decide to adopt, they think they’re prepared for the waiting, the interviews, the scrutiny, the careful hope. But they aren’t prepared for how much of themselves it will ask for.

Yuna Hollander loves her family. Love is not nearly a strong enough word for how she completely has made them her world, existence and the air she breathes.
When Yuna was just a little girl she dreamed of having a family of her own, A loving husband that adored her, and the children she could not wait to have of her own. Never did she imagine that moving from Japan when she was so young to a completely new life and country that all her dreams she could never allow herself to fully imagine or comprehend would come true in the most all encompassing ways. Moving away from her family was difficult, but she was excited for the opportunities and the adventure.
She met her soulmate David Hollander while attending McGill, a rather prestigious university in Canada. A handsome hockey player with icy blue eyes and a heart made completely out of gold. From the moment they laid eyes on each other their fates were sealed, and little did she know her life would be changed and challenged forever.

Summary
The NHL keeps a Central Registry of every team’s Emergency Backup Goaltender, or EBUG, an individual who must be prepared to play for either the home or visiting team should both goalies be taken out of commission. When the Registry was digitized in the mid 90’s a clerical error was made, and David Hollander has remained on file as Montreal’s EBUG. When Boston plays a preseason game in Montreal at the beginning of the 2017/2018 season, both of their goalies are taken out and David Hollander suddenly finds himself in the net in Boston black and yellow.
