    Summary

A long slow-burn fic from Regulus’ POV, beginning in 1972.

In this version of the story, Remus Lupin never goes to Hogwarts. His parents keep him home, afraid someone might discover their son is a werewolf. Instead he receives private magical tutoring and attends Muggle schools.

Sirius Black eventually meets Remus anyway. But Regulus Black saw him first.

This story explores how it might have changed Regulus’ fate if the two of them had found each other and he hadn’t been alone.

[I reject J. K. Rowling’s transphobic views. May she rage helplessly every time fandom makes her characters queer.]

    Summary

    Regulus Black has two obsessions.

    1) Hating his older brother’s best friend, James Potter. Has Regulus met the man before now? No. But he has deemed James Potter his mortal enemy since he was ten years old.

    2) A certain voice actor by the pseudonym Jay, who makes “spicy” audios.

Regulus has always known the universe to have a sick sense of humour but he didn’t know it was this cruel. He’d recognize that voice anywhere. To Regulus’s shock and abject horror, James Potter is Jay, there’s no doubt about it.

    Summary

He was supposed to be just a tutor. Just chemistry. Just a distraction.
But Regulus doesn’t do just anything, and James Potter is about to find that out the hard way.

And while their chemistry simmers beneath the surface, everything around them is shifting.

Sirius is trying not to fall for the boy in goal who keeps stealing his popcorn.
Remus is learning how to let people see the bruises they didn’t leave.
Barty is spiralling fast, and Evan’s stopped hiding how hard he wants him to.
And Dorcas is watching everything unravel, like she always does—until someone catches her off guard in a way she didn’t see coming.

    Summary

“Do you swear it?” Regulus looks deep into James’ eyes, waiting for the faltering, but there is none.
“I swear it,” he says, gripping Regulus’ arm tighter.
There’s a moment of silence, and then it is James who twists their arms, locking the charm in place. Not that either of them will remember it the following day, drunk as they are.

    ————————

James and Regulus get really drunk and make an unbreakable vow. James swears that Regulus will be in love with him by the end of the year, and Regulus swears not to push him away and make him try. When they wake up the following day, they remember nothing of it. But everyone knows what happens if you don’t go through with it, so they can do nothing but try to recall and respect their drunken promises or be met by sweet old death. As if this wasn’t enough, their everyday problems seem to double by the minute. Between the vow and life as a student,

It’s about to be a hell of a year.

    Summary

For as long as he could remember, Regulus knew he was going to marry a prince.

It was sealed in his destiny, embroidered in the fairy tales the maid told him to make him sleep, so neatly sewed into his eyelids that he even dreamed of it at night. In his dreams, he was always glad and so giddy about it, up until the moment he grew up to have wants and needs and Regulus understood that there was no universe in which he could have wanted to do otherwise.

For as long as he could remember, James knew he was going to be king.

It was written in his blood, running through his veins as steely resolve. It was destiny chanted in royal hallways, whispered in his ears as both a promise and a warning. Since he had been able to think for himself, James had been pervaded by an ever present mindfulness of fate, manifesting in the way he talked and walked, rode his horse and wielded his spear. Lords, barons and dukes had called him heir to the throne before knowing his name, kneeled at his feet before he could know what it meant to rule. James looked in the mirror and saw a prince before he could ever recognise himself.

Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.
