    Ilya feels mildly stupid. He knew, obviously, that they speak French in Canada, but he didn’t know it was, like— some people’s only language. He’d sort of assumed everyone was fluent in both.

    "Huh. Cool."

    "Your English is very good," Hollander offers.

    Shane wants to figure out if he's gay before he gets drafted—and no, the way he felt when Ilya Rozanov smirked at him with a cigarette between his lips in Saskatchewan has nothing to do with it. Unfortunately, the random guy he hooks up with to try and make sure one way or another takes a picture, and Shane gets outed before the draft. In the ensuing scandal, he goes seventh overall, to Ottawa.

    Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov end up sharing a room. For a brief moment, they find something in each other neither of them expected.

    Then Ilya vanishes from their cabin without explanation.

    Years pass. They are drafted to opposite conferences. Their careers take off. Their lives move on.
