There’s a lovely familiarity to working out the details of a job with him like this. He hasn’t told her much about his reasoning behind this heist—a fact which irritates her far less than it would have when she worked for him instead of with him. She doubts there would be much to tell anyway. Her instinct—which she has been honing meticulously for several years when it comes to Kaz—is that he is simply bored and has found the challenge of breaking into the country’s premiere museum to replace a moderately famous DeKappel with a forgery of his own making to be sufficiently stimulating.
Kaz asks Inej to help him with a heist, which is definitely not just an excuse to take her on a date to an art museum after hours.

Kaz had to admit the traffickers were surprisingly clever – for thick-skulled pirates, at least. He had not expected to be ambushed on the site of his future textile manufacture out of town. Or, well, what was supposed to be the site of his new project. Seeing as he’d been set up, it seemed he would need to find a new abandoned warehouse to repurpose. It was an annoying detail that would have to wait, however, since he was presently tied up to a chair.
Inej's enemies capture Kaz to lure her in a trap. It doesn't end well for them.
