Summary
Andrew Minyard liked routines.
Every morning before work he stopped at the same small café, ordered the same drink, and sat at the same table until it was time to teach his second graders.
Then the new barista started working mornings.
Neil was sharp-eyed, blunt, and far too observant for someone who claimed to just be making coffee. Andrew found himself tolerating his presence in a way he usually didn’t tolerate people at all.
And then one morning Neil disappeared.
Weeks later, he showed up bleeding on Andrew’s doorstep.
Andrew didn’t ask for trouble.
But apparently trouble knew exactly where to find him.

Summary
The paper cranes were Betsy’s idea. She’d brought it up to him in one of their sessions and explained that it could be used to help center Andrew during his depressive episodes. At first, Andrew thought it was an incredibly stupid idea. But as usual, Betsy was right. Creating something from nothing but a scrap of paper did help.
Whenever Andrew felt too destructive, too angry, too hollow, the small paper cranes were enough of a distraction for him to get a grasp over himself again.
Andrew is a high school student struggling to juggle his depression, therapy, and discordant family life when he meets the mysterious new student at Palmetto High, Neil Josten, a former runaway that makes Andrew fall fast. As suggested by his therapist, Andrew makes origami cranes to cope with the mounting pressures of life.

Summary
It doesn't make sense. Neil was fine. More than fine. He’s safe at home with Andrew, and this should be the best possible ending to one of Neil’s best days, but when Neil squeezes his eyes shut, all he can see is —
Riko grinning with vicious pleasure as he slices Neil open. Riko’s eyes reflecting the glow of the lighter licking Neil’s skin. Riko laughing as a tattoo gun needle digs into Neil’s cheek.
Riko, Riko, Riko, smothering and impossible to escape. Panic knifes through Neil as he yanks uselessly against the handcuffs. No, no, no —
And then he’s saying it aloud, “No, no, no,” because there isn't a gag cutting into the sides of his mouth. Because Neil isn’t at Evermore. He’s at home with Andrew, who’s right there when Neil opens his eyes — only near the foot of the bed now, not touching Neil at all.
Neil has long gotten used to reading the faint shades of emotion that pass for expressions on Andrew’s face. But never, not even in Andrew's medicated, manically expressive days, has Neil seen Andrew wear anything like his current look of horrified shock.
Neil agrees to try the handcuffs in bed. It goes badly. Cue angst and h/c.

Everything is finally over --now the Foxes want to celebrate. In true Fox fashion, it goes terribly wrong.
