Following the events of TES: 5, Skyrim is in a state of great upheaval and change. It is currently 4E 203, and The Empire has won the civil war; Imperials, and thus the Thalmor, control the region, working to crush the last of Talos worship and unify civil control. An assassin-for-hire soon to be in the employ of the Thalmor entering Skyrim by wagon is waylaid by an attack from the Fellthorn Company, a merc group who are causing turmoil in the region, particularly for the Thalmor. Events fold in on all as they become involved in a Thalmor conspiracy that concerns the freedom of the people of the Western Reach, and perhaps, all of Skyrim.
