Rocky darted out of the way. The door shut with a decisive whirr-click.
The endless glug-thud-squelch of Ryland Grace's body seemed very loud in the small room. He made a noise that sounded like, "Huh?"
"Grace and Adrian talk now," Rocky commanded. They pointed one arm at them. "Talk until both normal."
"What?" Adrian said, baffled.
Rocky clattered several claws against the ground, a discord of pique. "You are both annoying! Always polite, polite, polite. Bland. Empty."In which Adrian and Grace haven't really been getting along, and Rocky takes matters into his own claws.

"I watched— a video," Fabian mumbled. His fingers resumed their movement, tracing a restless path from the middle of Ryan's sternum to his clavicle and back.
A video? Porn, maybe, Ryan thought. They'd talked casually about online sex work before, but never in depth. Had Fabian watched something in the time they'd been broken up, and now felt bad about it?
Fabian shut his eyes. Ryan felt the brush of his lashes against his chest. "It was a video of, um, some of the..." He let out a shallow sigh. "Some of your fights."
Ryan stilled. For a few seconds he was sure he didn't even breathe.

But Shane's eyes were wet and slightly bloodshot, and his breaths still came in shudders. "I, I can't... understand you. Not really. Not..." His fingers clenched in Ilya's tank top. The fabric was thin enough that Ilya felt his hands shake. "Not fully. I can't fin... finish your sentences."
Ilya didn't really laugh, because Shane was still crying, but he let out a half-smiling breath. "Shane, is okay," he said gently. "I speak English, remember?" Well, much better when he hadn't been drinking.
"Tha's not it," Shane sniffed. His words were starting to blur. He was quite a bit drunker than Ilya thought he'd planned to get. "'s not like Scott and Kip. There's a, a whole part of you that I jus'... don' know."In which being in a multi-lingual relationship is made harder by alcohol.

Rozanov tries to steady himself, biting off another foreign curse to pull that hockey-bred steel into his shoulders. Hayden beats him to it.
Just as an angry man bursts through the front door, Hayden shoves himself between Rozanov and the threat. Rozanov makes a sharp sound. Hayden ignores it to square his shoulders, and braces for whatever is about to come.
He isn’t Shane, and Rozanov certainly isn’t Jackie, but the equation is the same as earlier. If he’d expect his friend to stand between Jackie and danger, Hayden’s sure as hell willing to do the same.

If you ask anyone who knows even the slightest bit about hockey, they would say that Shane Hollander is one of the nicest players out there. A generational talent with talks of a dynasty.
If you ask Ilya Rozanov, he’d announce loudly that Shane Hollander is the best thing that happened to him. Don’t get it wrong; he’d still call him boring and polite and “very Canadian” and only the second best hockey player in the league. But there’d be a sparkle in his eye and a soft smile on his lips, and it wouldn’t be hard to see the pure adoration the man had for Shane Hollander. He’d mock him with “golden boy Shane Hollander,” but there’d be a thread of something hidden in his voice. Almost as if he doesn’t truly believe it.
Or, Shane Hollander left Montreal. He's not sure if all of him did, though.
