Summary
Seconds before Eito presses down on the button that will end his defective life in a burst of flames, the last person he expected to comes to his rescue.

His eyes flitted up and down the bed that Eito was splayed out on. He took up pretty much the entire thing.
“Well, you’re not exactly leaving me much space,” Takumi hissed, feeling himself becoming flustered. He couldn’t stop staring at the thin strip of exposed underwear peaking out from the waistband of his pants.
Eito laughed. “And you’re not exactly the biggest guy in the world. Come on, you can slot yourself in just fine.”
“Yeah, if you want me sleeping practically on top of you.”
Takumi knew he was in danger the instant he said it. They both went quiet.
A small bed on a cold night urges a pair of traitors to get a little more intimate.

He feels out for his chest, steadying himself as he plunges it into the boy’s chest. It’s overwhelming, the power of Takumi and all of his friends flooding into him. Really, Eito didn’t want to leave the body in his lap. He wanted to curl around it, hoping that somehow Takumi would come back if he squeezed tight enough. That the black, mummified corpse in his lap would start talking again.

The very first thing for him to notice when his senses came back one after another was the warm breath tingling on his face from someone being way too close. The second was the absence of the hard, dusty ground, replaced with soft and warm sheets. The third one was the smell of antiseptic, mixed with blood and sweat.
“Takumi…?”
When he tried to move, a warm hand touched his bandaged back, briefly helping him to properly sit up. Out of instinct, Eito wanted to push it away, but his body was sore and bruised, deeming him unable to put up any kind of resistance.
“You’re in the infirmary. You—”
“I should be dead.”
After leaving Last Defense Academy, Eito is ready to spend his remaining days in solitude until death would inevitably knock on his door. He didn't expect that from all the leftover people on this planet, Takumi would be the one spoiling his plan once again.

“Hey, Aotsuki,” Takumi said instead, leaning back against the bars of Eito’s cage from where he was sitting on the grass. “Your disorder makes people look like monsters, right?”
“What a brilliant observation from our illustrious team leader!” Takumi could hear the sarcasm dripping from his words, thick and cloyingly sweet. He could easily imagine the mocking grin that must have been on Eito’s face right then. “Yes, in case my words never managed to make their way into your stupid, ugly head, you and the rest of humanity are unbearable to be around. Emphasis on you.”
“That’s not what I meant,” grumbled Takumi. “I’m trying to… y’know…”
“I don’t know, actually. Please enlighten me.”
“Ugh. You’re insufferable, you know that?” Takumi groaned, finally turning around to look Eito in the eye. “I’m trying to ask if pictures look normal to you. Or, like, drawings and stuff.”
“Hmmm…” Eito closed his eyes. Takumi couldn’t tell if he was deep in thought or just taking a break from looking at him. “…I don’t know.”
