Summary
Sumeru is widely known for its diverse population of hybrids. Those unfamiliar with this concept will hem-and-haw, assuming mixing between beast and human somewhere down the line. This line of thinking is particularly offensive to Sumerians so please do not spread such misinformation unless you want a visit from the matra.
Alhaitham and Kaveh are as different as two people can be despite both of them being wingfolk. Throw in an expedition to an unmarked ruin in the desert and things escalate from there.
Alternatively, a look at love languages.

Bill doesn’t need anyone. He really really doesn’t. He doesn’t need to feel validated or secure because those things don’t matter to him and aren’t even relevant to his emotional well-being or lack thereof. Yeah. That sounds about right.

Summary
Kaveh found him in the corner of a dark alley.
Maybe him wasn’t the right word, he realized as he turned the prone body over. Bits of gravel skittered across the ground like fleas. Dirt clung to its damp clothes and silver hair, wetted by the evening drizzle.
Of all the things Kaveh expected to run into today, a broken, hyperrealistic android was not one of them.
In the corner of a run-down alleyway, Sumeru's most renowned robotics engineer discovers an android. And this is no ordinary android—Kaveh has never seen another that looks so disturbingly human. When it becomes clear fate is giving him no other option, he brings it home for a repair.
There is more than meets the eye with this android. That much is obvious. Then Kaveh learns of a series of mysterious disappearances, and realizes there is even more to this mysterious creation than he—or its creator—thought.

Summary
"Is that an accusation, Grand Scribe?" Kaveh breathed, a breathless, wicked little tilt returning to the corner of his mouth. "Because from where I'm sitting, you're the one who put your glass in my space."
"A gesture of hospitality," Alhaitham murmured. His thumb gave a slow, deliberate rub against the sensitive skin of Kaveh's inner wrist, right over the frantic fluttering of his pulse. "Though I suppose you've always been prone to misinterpreting my intentions."
"Then make them clear." Kaveh’s voice was barely a whisper now, thick with a sudden, intoxicating heat. He tilted his chin up, a subtle, devastating invitation. "Stop being so damn clinical and just say it."
Alhaitham didn’t say a word. He didn't need to.

Summary
When he sets the miis loose on the island, Kaveh has to admit he wasn’t exactly sure what they would do. He was expecting some cute interactions. He was not expecting his own mii to immediately fall in love with Alhaitham’s.
The speed at which it happens is concerningly fast; one minute they’re walking home, and the next Kaveh’s mii is staring starry-eyed at the one representing Alhaitham and asking if this is love.
Kaveh gets Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, and decides to put himself and his friends (and, of course, Alhaitham) into the game as miis. His mii, of course, immediately falls in love with his roommate's, leading to awkward emotions and perhaps even more awkward indirect confessions.

Summary
When Sethos left the class, the two were arguing again, this time about which textbook would be best for the class. Their altercations hadn't really stopped at any moment, because every time Professor Thoth asked a question, Kaveh's hand shot up while Alhaitham leisurely raised his, and they each confronted each other's points in increasingly passive-aggressive language.
They hated each other's guts, and it was frankly hilarious. Why they sat right next to each other would remain a mystery, but Sethos guessed that it was probably to amp up the tension.

Summary
“I wanted you to stop me,” he says. “That night I packed my things. I wanted you to say—don’t go. I thought you would, but you didn’t. And I told myself you didn’t care. That you never did.”
Silence.
The kind that floods every room. The kind that knows what it’s doing.
Then—
“I thought you knew,” Alhaitham says. “I thought you were just waiting for me to say it because you didn’t want to risk being wrong.”
Kaveh stares. “Well. That’s incredibly fucking stupid.”
Alhaitham nods once. “It is.”
They stare at each other. It is not the usual staring. It is not bickering or strategizing or seeing who blinks first. It is something else. Something deeper. Something cracking.
Cyno coughs pointedly. “Do you require further divine intervention, or will you kiss now?”
Or, Kaveh assumes Alhaitham will eventually say the thing, Alhaitham assumes Kaveh already knows the thing, and everyone else in Sumeru suffers accordingly.
