Boyd’s curling lip exposed his shiny teeth, which had become noticeably longer and pointer over the last few hours, part of Tim’s mind had been recording uneasily. His skin was getting all pale and sunken-in, too. It wasn’t a good look. Something hovering in vibes between junkie comedown and corpse.
“I’m new,” he bit out with a jerk of his head, narrowing his eyes at Tim. “A new vampire is practically a paranormal infant. We got needs.”

In 2006, Boyd had taken a very spontaneous trip to the state of Florida, because the weather and beaches were said to be lovely, tickets were surprisingly cheap, and he could neatly avoid some unpleasantness back home in sweet Kentucky. While there he had discovered the unexpected delights of two things: pico de gallo, and fisting Raylan Givens.
There did not appear to be a bowl of chips anywhere in the nearby vicinity, tonight.
Working his way through all the emotional bullshit generated by realizing that the first and only sexual intimacy he was to have with Raylan Givens since that surreal time years ago was to be extracting a fruit from his ass, was a task that Boyd knew would take him a long time and much effort. So he shoved all those feelings into a box to deal with later.

Tim scoffs, flicking some penciling ash into the wind. It blows back on him and breaks against his jacket. "You wish. I saw him in the parking lot. You know he's trouble, right?"
Raylan appreciates the sentiment of Tim looking out for him, really, he does. Guys like Tim are a rare find these days. Still, Raylan doesn't need to be told that Boyd is trouble. It glows like a burning red neon sign over his head everywhere he goes. It follows Raylan around like a permanent ghost, just hovering over his shoulder.
"They're all trouble, Gutterson,” Raylan says, because it's true. “Or else they'd be married instead of running around sleeping with us."
