The two attendings have a very well deserved day off. This does not mean that Dennis gets the same. So he's at work.
But it's okay. He's paired with Samira, which is fine. He likes her company. So much so that he decides to join her for a bit of air in the ambulance bay before anything goes downhill, as it often does.
Which leads them to this moment, and Dennis isn't sure the outcome is certain.

You're not getting a chance to duck out to the bathroom in the middle of a trauma when you're wrist-deep in someone's chest.
