    Summary

“One day,” Silco said softly, handing it back to him, “we won’t have to look at the lights across the bridge. You’ll see.”

Taking it from him and leaning back, Vander smiled, amusement sat sharply in how he lips curved.

“Keep your eyes on it, then. Zaun won’t be a dream forever.” Putting the cigarette back in his mouth, he mumbled around the paper, “Just try not to trip over your feet while your head’s in the clouds, hm?”

“Better in the clouds than up my own ass,” Silco muttered at him.

And Vander barked out a laugh, echoing over waters too toxic to touch.

“I’ll need you to explain that, Jinx.”

Turning, she smiled, the minute gap in her teeth on full display as she pulled the other boot on with a huff and walked over to him, leaning down with her hands pressed into her knees and her nose nuzzled to his just for a second, as one might do a puppy. His expression didn’t shift from its flattened observation, though his eyes shifted a touch.

“You said he always told you that your head was in the clouds, blah, blah, blah,” she stood up, holding her arm out and rotating it to look over the baby blue tattoos, “I decided I liked ‘em.” She shrugged, “I like your head and where it is, screwed onto your neck.”

    Summary

And in the way her fingers pulled fabric into her fists, teeth gritting against his chest as she struggled inside herself, he saw in a little girl a young man that thought the world of another. An older boy, a brother, a mentor. And a liar.

Soon, he would tell her who her Vander really was. And she would see that they were the same. That her sister left her, that the world was built by betrayers. No one else could be trusted. It was only them.

    Summary

"No more dancing around, Silco," she snapped, hand on her gun, "the music stopped ages ago."

From the dark, a dimmed chuckle echoed before he stepped into the sunlight and she studied with her guard up. And he studied back. Features marred, something sitting in green that wasn't there years ago. It made her sight tighten and a long breath draw into her nose.

"I don't think so," Silco mused, glancing at the larger man to his right, without moving his attention from Sevika. "The party simply moved downtown."

    Summary

She was fourteen but she had hurt him before. She could again. She knew it, he knew it. And still, Silco didn't move. Fixed and stable and without condition in placement. Hands at his side, unclenched.

Instead, he simply hummed and nodded, pulled out the drawer decorated with a drawing of a crab in bright green and dipping a hand in to grab a clean package of new chalk. Lifting the top and holding it out to her, he raised a brow with lulled lids. Green eye almost bored in how it sat neutral.

    "Pick a color."

    Summary

Dreams sitting like fire in his head, dipping down his throat to his chest and burning a little too bright. They weren't meant to be here. They weren't meant to sit here. Drinks sitting in their stomachs and smoke in the air while the air itself thinned out beneath the weight of Piltover, a noose around their neck choking out their final cry.

The Nation of Zaun would not be build on the foundations of a good drink and a bad joke.

    Summary

Jinx was twelve now. Still touched with fire, brain too often colored with ghosts. He understood, he had his own. Not all things could be drowned in a river despite his desire to wrap fingers around their neck and strangle and silence their whisper. Everyone left them but they never truly left them. And that was the cruelty of it all. How a back could be bent over, posture heavy, because of the people you still carried against your spine. Brothers. Sisters. Family.

Looking over her face, Silco blinked very slowly, a lazy movement of his lids. One still moving over matter, organic, the other touching something new. Always, the past and present carried with them. It never left even when the people they trusted did.

    Summary

“Maybe I should sleep on the couch,” Cullen muttered, eyes darting off, “Stress makes the dreams worse, I’m not going to sleep well tonight. I can feel it,” he looked back at her, apology in his expression, “I don’t want to wake you.”

“Stress,” Vesper repeated, eyes narrowed, “I see.” Glancing off, she raised a brow, “Do these doors lock.”

    “Yes, why?” Cullen frowned.

Moving off of him, she walked to one door, locked it, then the other and returned to her place, settling back in his lap with a warm smile. Leaning down, fingers curling against his collar, she kissed him and moved to his jaw, grinding gently against him.

“Because I am going to relieve your stress,” she whispered, “and you’re going to sleep soundly, with me.”

    Summary

Night crept in quickly and settled over the estate, windows were kept open so noise could be heard. Wind, bugs, birds, animals off in the forests outside the property. It calmed both of them the way locked doors unsettled. Ease was found in mutual comfort.

Meryn’s eyes were trained on a file, leather bound and filled with endless notes scribble but memorized. He knew well the contents but he looked them over anyway, searching for connections missed.

“If you gaze at that page much longer you shall go blind,” Morrigan warned in a chide, settled at a vanity in the corner and undoing her hair from its usual updo, “‘Twould be a pity, for there is much to gaze at here.”

Glancing at her with a muted smirk, Meryn cleared his throat and returned his eyes to the page.

“Indeed,” he said, his tone amused.

    Summary

Settling into bed, pulling the covers up, she rested the pads of her fingers on her eyes and curled her toes in as she hummed in thought. Blowing out the candle, moonlight inking in from the open balcony, he slipped off his sleep pants and climbed in next to her. Dropping her hands, she blinked slow, lips tweaking in amusement as he leaned over her with a smile.

“You look a man on a mission,” she teased.

“I am, yes,” he smiled, warm, a hand moving beneath sheets to slide up her hip and pull silk back, “You’ll never guess what.”

Biting back a smile as his hand moved inward, dipping down between her legs but not yet touching, Vesper released a quick shiver and sighed out through her nose.

“Whatever could it be,” she said dryly, but shivered regardless.

    Summary

Sitting down across from him, she looked over the board, it would be a good exercise. Moving the pawns back in place, she smiled and glanced up at him.

"Your confidence might be temporary," she teased, "I'm going to win."

"I have little doubt of that," Cullen chuckled, "but Maker preserve me I am going to try."

Sitting back in the chair, an arm draped over and her legs crossed, bobbing gently, she studied his face and narrowed her eyes in amusement, "Bragging rights, I assume, if you do."

"No," Cullen said, shaking his head with his own smile as he too sat back and set a hand on the board in preparation to move, "I just don't believe in quitting."
