Searing, boiled water splashes over Shiro's prosthetic. It burns like it were flesh. Stars, it hurts. But the anguished look on Keith's face is even more painful.

Keith’s expression floods with guilt. Shiro’s heart tears down the middle. It’s one of the most gut-wrenching things Shiro has seen, the war included.
“I can’t feel it,” Shiro blurts.
Keith's eyes are wide and wet. He shakes his head.
“You can’t feel anything?”
Shiro hesitates. There’s hope in Keith’s Bambi eyes. In many ways, he is perpetually fifteen, preparing himself to be kicked out of the foster home at any moment. Shiro forces a smile, although his prosthetic is screaming.
“Nothing,” he lies.
